We visited Antalya Environment Department with our English teacher on 2nd March to get some information about environmental issues. They welcomed us hospitably and tried to answer our questions. Four expert environment engineers informed us especially about water pollution and the importance of recycling .

•They said that they are the control mechanisms of the environment.

•They fine the people who damages the environment.

• Antalya is a lucky city because %80 of the city has the system of refining.

•Most of our beaches have “blue flag”. Blue flag means clean seas. Antalya is the third in Europe that has the cleanest beaches.

• Antalya’s problem is a lot of rubbish. It is a small city , so there aren’t enough places to store the garbage.

• In addition, there aren’t many recycling and decomposing centers.

• They advised us to collect the batteries in special bins, to warn the people around us , to recycle and not to waste water.

•They also wanted us to organize such an activity on World Earth Day. ( 5th June )

On 8th March we visited Manavgat Municipality. They told us about the duties of the municipality on saving the environment.Then, we went to a sorting center and observed how they make an effort to sort the garbage.

Visiting the Sorting Center was a great experince for us. Although it smelt bad, it made us realize lots of facts.

There were some men dealing with seperating the rubbish. It must be really hard to do. They are standing all day in a bad smelling place and using their physical power.

* Packages are not rubbish , they can be recycled.

* Plastic wastes turn into textile products,water pipes and floor covering.

* Metal wastes can be reused as raw materials.

* Glass wastes turn into new glass packages and souvenirs.

* Paper and cardboard wastes can be reused again as papers and cardboards.
