Beautiful BloomsWith the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival in full swing this April, see if you can spot the following cultivars on Vancouver’s streets:> Afterglow: This American hybrid cherry is characterized by

bright-pink flowers, horizontally spreading branches and buds and branches that are more resistant to freezing damage.

> Pandora: This English hybrid has a neat crown of upright branches and smallish, soft-pink flowers composed of five narrow, notched petals, suffused deeper pink at the tips. The flowers open flat, showing gaps between the petals.

> Pink Perfection: An increasingly uncommon cherry in Vancouver with a small, spreading, umbrella-shaped crown and large, luxurious two-toned flowers – pink with white inner petals.

> Snow Goose: Blooms in early April with pure-white flowers backed by bright green calyces.> Ukon: With flowers of an unusual yellowish colour, the name of this cultivar alludes to the fact

that turmeric (“ukon” in Japanese) stains whatever it touches yellow.

you dry but not so big that others can’t move past you easily.

Capilano suspension BridgeDizzying heights will make you tremble as you cross this 137-metre (450-foot) span teetering 70 metres (230 feet) above the Capilano River.
