Dear Parents, With summer, the Pet Show and the Camp Out a distant memory and thoughts turning to Christmas – (yes, sorry to bring that up) it’s time for an update from FOCSS. I am pleased to say that following a well attended AGM, FOCSS is now looking in good shape for the next 12 month with several new members joining the committee. In the coming months we have many exciting events planned, including an evening with the Royal Ballet, The Christmas Fair, a Wine Tasting Event, an Old School Disco for parents and for the more energetic amongst you, the London to Brighton Bike Ride… plus much more to be announced. So, why do we do all this? Well for a couple of reasons, but principally to raise funds to support our school. Recently with your support, FOCSS has contributed towards the new play ground markings and the total refurbishment of the toilets – which now look great if you’ve not seen them! Secondly but as important, is to build a sense of extended community around the school and have a bit of fun. If you’ve not yet experienced this, I strongly urge you to come to the Christmas Fair on the 10 th December – you’ll have a great time and maybe a mince pie or two. Finally, thank you to everyone who responded to our letter about receiving FOCSS news by email. If you haven’t yet had a chance to return your form please could you do so when you have a moment. I look forward to seeing you all at the Christmas Fair. Dear Parents,

With summer, the Pet Show and the Camp Out a distant memory and thoughts turning to Christmas – (yes, sorry to bring that up) it’s time for an update from FOCSS.

If you’ve not yet experienced this, I strongly urge you to come to the Christmas Fair on the 10th December – you’ll have a great time and maybe a mince pie or two.

Finally, thank you to everyone who responded to our letter about receiving FOCSS news by email. If you haven’t yet had a chance to return your form please could you do so when you have a moment.

I look forward to seeing you all at the Christmas Fair.

Best wishes

Christmas… sorry but it’s not far off!

As the saying goes, ‘Christmas comes but once a year and still we can’t afford it!’ never-the-less, it also means that it’s time for the School Christmas Fair.

This year the Christmas Fair will take place on Saturday 10th December. The doors open at 2pm so don’t be late or you might miss Santa, who has told us that he’ll be dropping in.

There will also be plenty of games stalls, a lucky dip, a raffle and for the younger children who attend the school, a secret Santa where they can buy a present for somebody special.

For those of you too old to visit the ‘man in red’, we’ll have the ever popular Christmas Café serving hot drinks, home made cakes… and maybe a few contributions from Waitrose!

Because Christmas Fair has such a great atmosphere, for many of us this is the highlight of the FOCSS calendar, so we do hope that you can join us.

Strictly ballet…

On the 22nd November at 6.30pm until 7.30pm, Amelia from the English National Ballet will be in school talking about the Company and showing off some the fantastic costumes, wigs and make-up seen in productions like The Nutcracker.

This is a must for any would be dancer or those interested in ballet. Tickets are on sale at the door and cost £2 for adults £1 for children.

Finally, if you could spare a little time to help out before, during or after the event, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact Liz Clifford. [email protected]

Apple juice

Thanks to all of you who brought the fresh apple juice at the end of last term. This seasonal bit of creative thinking made £70. Not bad for squashing a few apples!

Get on your bike…

Next year FOCSS will be entering a team in the famous London to Brighton Bike Ride in the summer.

If you fancy taking part, raising some money for FOCSS and the British Heart Foundation, (both fantastic charities) please let us know by January.

For more information please contact Ian or Nicky Hogg. [email protected]

RELAX! It’s back to the 80’s

Do you remember those old school discos – boys down one side of the school hall, girls down the other and Wham blasting out of the antique school stereo?

Well, it’s time to revisit those halcyon days of your youth with the FOCSS School Disco (strictly adults only).

More information to follow after Christmas, but you might want to start thinking about a costume now and saving for your fizz bombs from the tuck shop!

It’s time to get your Christmas cards!

For any of you who missed the order date for Phoenix Cards last month, or want to order more, there's another opportunity to buy their gorgeous Christmas cards, advent calendars and wrapping paper (with 10% commission going to FOCSS) in plenty of time for Christmas. Orders will be collected from the office on Friday 18th November. Extra order forms and catalogues are available from the office

Wine tasting evening

Most of us drink the stuff, but do you know your Chardonnay from your Chablis?

Early in 2012, FOCSS hopes to be hosting a wine tasting event where you’ll be able to come along, learn about the different grapes, taste the wines they make and buy your favourite ones.

More details to follow after Christmas.
