The race to improved efficiency through better use of information assets is leading to a sharp rise in the

number of chief data officers (CDOs).

The iCDO will embrace ideas and methods across many disciplines, in cooperation with leading research institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, including information science, statistics, computing systems and optimization, economics, MIS, and organizational behavior. These disciplines are relevant both for understanding the CDO challenges and for building a body of knowledge.

Institute activities1. Conduct research to publish in leading

academic journals

2. Offer CDO courses as a concentration in the UALR graduate degree programs, and as intensive three to five-day certificate programs

3. Secure funding from public and private sectors

4. Organize the MIT CDO & IQ Symposium and iCDO Society meetings to be held at UALR

n Bring together CDOs to share their experiences and give back to their communities through collaboration with their peers.

n Provide a venue for CDOs to network with their peers.

n Develop and promote education and training to help CDOs to improve their knowledge and skills.

n Cultivate an environment that encourages the free exchange of information between CDOs across multiple industries.

n Help CDOs strengthen their organizations by improving the quality, use, and interoperability of data and information.

Our Goals Place UALR Ph.D. graduates in leading research universities

Prepare UALR graduates to step into CDO roles in major organizations

Enable enterprises to derive maximum value from information and data assets, to realize the value of data-driven decision making, and to gain competitive advantages through high-quality information

Support and empower CDOs and others charged with leading enterprise strategy, governance, and management of information and data assets

Build upon the success of the MIT Forum, Symposium and the International Society of Chief Data Officers to further MIT efforts, synergistic with the successful UALR MSIQ/PhD degree programs.

Gartner Research estimated that 90 percent of large organizations will have a

CDO by 2019.
