It’s often said that Minnesota has two seasons: Winter and Road Construction. Well, you can probably add a third: Election Season. Candidates are filing for office as you read this, and soon you’ll see an abundance of campaigning around the state. While not everyone enjoys politics or advocacy, it fundamentally affects how you build your business – sometimes for the positive, sometimes not. Therefore, it is crucial that candidates understand the implications of issues before them – whether it is at the city hall, county board, or state legislature. The MetroNorth Chamber, through its Government Affairs programming and its Political Action Committee, will be providing relevant information throughout the summer and fall. We are proud to be the voice of business and take that role very seriously. As a reminder, if your business ever has a specific issue or concern, we encourage you to contact us. Also – we plan to issue a special election issue of this newsletter in October. More information will be available soon on advertising opportunities for candidates. We’d love to hear from you!

Many people join the Chamber to build their professional connections and grow their business, and we are proud to offer many high-quality avenues in which to do so. Just in the past few weeks we offered a May Day Derby Day after-hours, information-packed Blaine & Coon Rapids Business Councils, Connecting 101, and a FULL house for our 30th annual Golf Tournament. Our Sunrise and Working with Women programs are experiencing record turn-out. Whether you are a small or large business, looking for referrals or education…our calendar has something for everyone. Contact us to discuss the best fit for your business and goals.

And The Scholarship Goes To…The MetroNorth Chamber Workforce D e v e l o p m e n t Foundation provided a $500 scholarship to Blaine High School student Tim Mafe, a junior with a Finance focus after high school.  Tim is a part of the Center for Engineering, Math, and Science (CEMS) as well as a two-year Business Professional of

America (BPA) member.  He is currently the Region 4 BPA President, as well as Blaine Chapter Vice President.    Last year he was a BPA National Finalist with his Entrepreneurship plan.  As a sophomore and making it to this level was a big accomplishment and showed his professionalism to present on a big stage. This year Tim qualified to compete with his team in Financial Analyst Team and placed 3rd in the national’s competition this May.

Tim is a well-respected student in and out of Blaine High School. He is in his third year with the high school football and boys track teams.  We wish him well in all his current & future endeavors and are proud to have him part of the north metro!
