Stylishly elegant yet subtle, lavishly equipped inside, with fantastic handling and dynamics, the 2014 Infiniti Q70 sedan range is easily among the small cadre of legitimate rivals to the German sport-luxury incumbents. 

Best of all, the 2014 Infiniti Q70 (known previously as the Infiniti M sedan) does its job of rising to world-class status without aping any of its alternatives. Original, striking, and voluptuous, the exterior of the Q70 ties swelling fenders and complex surfaces with flowing, graceful lines. At the nose, the grille makes a shiny impression; the rear ends in a bluff, sloping trunk. A tall stance gives the Q70 a more masculine look, while inside, the sensual, warm wood and semi-aniline leather finishes contrast with the typically stark, somber attitude of the Germans.

Both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the Infiniti Q70 are available, as are two different engines: a V-6 and a V-8. The Q70 3.7 RWD and AWD share a 3.7-liter V-6 engine rated at 330 horsepower; the Q70 5.6 RWD and AWD get a 5.6-liter, 420-horsepower V-8. All models get a seven-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift mode, rev-matching downshifts, and optional paddle shiftes. Both V-6 and V-8 versions of the Q70 accelerate rapidly and shift smoothly. 

A hybrid version of the Q70 will also be available in January 2014, matching the previous M35 Hybrid's spec with a combined 350-horsepower rating from its combination of a 3.5-liter V-6 engine and lithium-ion-powered electric motor. 

Infiniti doesn't shortchange the Q70 on the features front, either, with a strong set of standard equipment in V-6 versions, including heated leather seats; rain-sensing wipers; Bluetooth; Intelligent Key system; automatic climate control; and more. Step up to the V-8 models and you'll add Bose audio; a heated steering wheel; ventilated front seats; plus standard Bluetooth audio streaming; voice-activated navigation; an in-dash DVD player; and more.
