don’t forget to refresh your drink and get ready for
some girl talk! We also would love your input for
potentially meeting in August or September.
Stay safe and well ladies.
NCOB Members Walk for
Frontline Heroes
Several of our members practiced social
distancing while walking in the Heaven Can
Wait 2020 Virtual 5K for Frontline Heroes.
Kay Dubois
organized a 5K
walk for the
South West
neighborhood.
It was a
beautiful walk
in River Rim
around the
meadow and
through the neighborhood.
Kirsten MacKay
and Julie Olson
organized their
5K walk for
Summit West a
couple of days
later.
Congratulations on a job well done, and thank
you all for your donations to a great cause!

Pictures,

Pictures!
We are slowly getting back to meeting safely in
small groups for some of our events. When you get
together with your group, whether it is at book
club, a game table, volunteer activity, or
celebrating with lunch or cocktails, please snap a
few pictures and either email them to Lisa
Kowalski at [email protected] or
post them to our Facebook Page at
www.facebook.com/groups/264454257044701
We want to update some of the pictures on our
website and highlight the activities that members
are doing safely together. If any of you have
photos of NCOB activities you have attended in
2020, please send them to Lisa also. We much
appreciate your participation.

It’s a Guy Thing!
Did you know that a group of men associated with NCOB meet Friday mornings for coffee and camaraderie? They are currently meeting via Zoom but hope to meet in person again soon. If you are a husband, partner, or male member, and are interested in joining the group, you can contact David Knowles at [email protected] for more de-tails. If there are other activities that any of the gentlemen would like to spearhead, our Activities Chair would be happy to chat about those ideas and help get them started.
Contact Jennie Tindall at [email protected].

Hello everyone,
We are ready to start our Pleasure Walks again

since we have seen you all and we have missed
you!

various areas of Bend: The Deschutes River
Trail, The Old Mill District, Drake Park, and
some Old Bend Historical Neighborhoods.
We will follow "safe distancing guidelines" as
we walk. Bring your masks if you wish.
We meet in front of Anthony's Restaurant in
the Old Mill District.
Sunday Walks are open to spouses/partners/guests.

This could be
your ONE
thing….
In April of this year our Club President
challenged each of us to do One Thing to
help make the club even better.
We have had some outstanding activity
leaders in NCOB, but it is not a lifetime
commitment and several of them have
stepped away from that role in the past
couple of years. We would like to keep our
club active and engaged, and that is where
YOU come in.
Please consider taking the lead on an activity
this year. It is much easier than you think
and the time commitment can be minimal.
The blueprint is there for you to follow, or you
can go your own way. Our Activities Director,
Jeannie Tindall will also be there to help you
along the way. The following activities are in
need of leadership:
• Hiking
• Pickle Ball
• Wine Down
• Girls Night Out
• Or any activity you enjoy and would like
to submit and lead as a club activity
Please consider giving back to your club by
leading a social group, either alone or with a
friend or two. And let’s have some fun!
For more information, and to do your
One Thing this year, contact Jeannie
Tindall at [email protected] or
(949) 300-6794.
IMPORTANT NOTICES
NCOB COVID
GUIDELINES
As we begin gathering again, we suggest you
follow the current guidance from local and
national health organizations:
• Stay home if you are not feeling well, or may
have been exposed to the virus
• Wear a face mask
• Try to stay socially distant, at least 6 feet
• Wash hands frequently or use hand
sanitizer
• Plan to be out of doors, if possible
• Consider your personal risk and act
accordingly
Remember to only do what feels safe to you!
Thank you for doing your part to help in keeping
us all safe and healthy,

2020 Artisan Showcase
The Artisan Showcase is on track to be held on
Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the Elks Club.
Several vendors have already sent their money in.
Additionally we have a couple of new vendors with
some exciting new items.
As we go forward in this time of the virus it is hoped
that by November things will be back to a more
normal time. We are watching guidelines closely so
we will be in compliance.
If you are interested, please send your money in as
soon as possible so we know how many tables we
will have. Once again, it will be single tables that will
be spaced according to the guidelines. Checks will
not be cashed until October in the event that it does
have to be canceled. We are looking forward to a
successful show. This will be our 13th Anniversary
of hosting this event!
Applications are attached and on the
website under the activities tab.

NCOB LADIES GOLF
Who’s looking for another
opportunity to safely social
distance, dust off their golf clubs
and enjoy the wonderful weather
and greens of a golf course???
It might just be the perfect exercise for these
times. I’m interested in starting a 9 hole ladies
group, just for fun, all levels, maybe twice a
month or more?
Let me know if you’re interested and we’ll make
some plans!

Coming to your
Mailbox very soon
We want to know how you are
doing during this difficult time
and hear what you would like to see for our club
going forward. Please let us know what you are
thinking. We thank you for your participation and
direction. NCOB Board of Directors
We all have that photograph that we think
should be framed. It may be beautiful,
funny, or inspiring, but it deserves to be
shared.
Send in that photo and it may be chosen to
spotlight the front page of our NCOB
Webpage! There is only one rule: You had
to have taken the picture yourself. That’s
it! (A landscape orientation is preferred over
portrait.)
Send your one amazing photo to
[email protected] for a chance to
be featured on our website. A new photo
will be chosen each quarter, so you can
send one every three months.
Be sure to check our Website at
www.newcomersclubofbend.org soon to
see the new photo!

VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES
Indicates spouses/partners/guests are welcome to attend.
MANAGING A HOMELESS SHELTER
DURING A PANDEMIC
People without a home are already susceptible to
illness, weather, exhaustion, malnutrition, and many
are considered medically at-risk. Consequently, the
Inn has modified their work practices to enhance the
health and safety of their staff and residents. They
are following the most current directives and
recommendations from public health authorities.
All people sheltering in place at Bethlehem Inn are
asked to be mindful of their community and to leave
the Inn only for necessary trips, like work or a
healthcare or social service appointment.
The Inn is still practicing case management check-
ins, with the addition of plexi-glass dividers for the
safety of residents and staff. There are also options
for residents to have tele-meetings with their care
providers.
Children are playing outdoors (socially distanced)
and learning to do schoolwork online. The Inn has
addressed internet needs to accommodate children’s
online school.
The Inn’s Kitchen Manager, Dale Fox is doing a
terrific job of ensuring that residents continue to
receive three meals daily. Staff rotates in the kitchen
to support the Meal Program. Dale is grateful for the
continuing financial and in-kind support that allows
the Emergency Meal Program to continue.
During these challenging times, the Inn has had
to make many changes and we are grateful to
the staff for practicing all that is necessary to
keep everyone healthy and safe!

6th annual Beat Beethoven’s 5th
5k, 1 mile, and free kids’ obstacle course
Sunday, October 11, 2020
9:15 am — 11:45 am at the COCC Track
Can you volunteer to help at the race? Friends and
husbands are welcome too. We are especially in need
of volunteers to help serve the food (oranges, bananas,
and sweets).
The object of the race is for 5k runners to finish before
Beethoven’s 5th Symphony ends. That’s 33 minutes
and the music is broadcast over loud speakers at the
track. The race benefits the Central Oregon Symphony
now in its 53rd year. Beethoven himself will be running
the 5k and celebrating his 250th birthday.
There’s food/drink, a great raffle, costume contest and
prizes for top 5k runners. Bob Shaw of KTVZ will be our
emcee. Why not get together a team to run the 5k or
walk the 1 mile around the COCC track?
Register for the race at beatbeethoven5k.com

We have 307 members.
Parliamentarian
All proposed Bylaws and Standing Rules changes were approved by the voting members, and both revised documents can be found on the NCOB web site.
Activities and Events
Some small group in-person activities beginning, with more likely to begin in July. As we open up more in-person activities, following state guidelines, it is up to each member to determine whether they wish to attend. Some activities/events continue to be held online, including virtual lunch-eons. Various platforms are being suggested to activity lead-ers to allow more options for online activities together, such as House Party and Discord.
NCOB Outreach
Thanks to Diana Hall and her group of callers who reached out to NCOB members. Several of the callers have cell phone numbers with a different area code, so you may have received a call and not answered, but we hope that all of you are doing well and staying safe and healthy.
