RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. Exhibitors wishing to sell any article can have same listed in Catalogue and get For Sale card from Secretary. 2. The Affairs of the Society shall be conducted by a Committee to be elected annually from the list of members, together with the Secretary. 3. Intending Competitors must lodge with the Secretary a complete list of their entries numbered according to the Prize List (on forms to be supplied by the Committee) not later than 9th Aug, accompanied by an Entry Fee. Otherwise they will not be accepted. 4. All Livestock Exhibits (whether for competition or Exhibition) in order that they may be properly arranged, should be at the Show yard by 9 o'clock a.m. and cannot be admitted after 10.30 a.m. Bulls must be secured by a ring in the nose with a chain or rope attached, and be in charge of a caretaker, otherwise they cannot be admitted. All animals to have halters on their heads. All competing animals to be distinguished by numbers only. 5. All Hall & Marquees Exhibits (whether for competition or Exhibition) should be at the Show by 9.30 a.m. on show morning in order that they may be properly arranged. (Entries will be accepted on Tuesday up until 9.30p.m.) 6. The arrangement of the Show will be conducted by a committee of Management, and the persons entering the Show yard are subject to the direction of the Stewards and Secretary. 7. No person will be permitted to interfere with or to crowd around the Judges when adjudicating. Exhibitors so doing will forfeit their claim to prizes. Any abuse of judges will not be tolerated. 8. Exhibitors may enter the same exhibit in the cattle and horse sections in as many classes as they are eligible for, provided that they pay the necessary entry fee in each class. 9. The Judges shall have the power to award First, Second or Third prizes according to merits of the Exhibitors, or to withhold any or all prizes in any class for want of merit. 10. The decision of the Judges shall be final as to merit. On points of disqualification, objections or appeals will be considered if lodged with the Secretary, together with a fee of !50 on or before 3 o'clock p.m. on Show day, such objections will be considered by the committee of Management. The Fee will be returned if the objection is not considered frivolous. 11. No diseased animal can be admitted, and should they manifest symptoms of disease during the Exhibition they must immediately be removed from the premises on an order being given to the effect by the Secretary. 12. The ages of all Horses to date from 1st January of the year of their birth. 13. As one of the objects of this Association is to encourage the keeping of superior animals of the various descriptions for breeding purposes, the Judges will be instructed to particularly discourage overfed animals and those showing symptoms of constitutional unsoundness. 14. No stock can be removed from the Show Grounds before the parade of prize winners or 5pm which ever is the latest on the day of the Show. Other exhibits 5 o'clock. 15. Whilst every reasonable care will be exercised, the Show Society will not be responsible for any accident, loss or damage to any exhibit, exhibitor or spectator from any cause whatever occurring in the Show Yard, or in transit thereto or there from. Should any matter arise not provided for, or in the purview of these rules and regulations, such matter shall be referred to the committee whose decision shall be final and binding - no appeal to law in any case. 16. Definition of Farmer - where the term farmer is made use of in the Prize List it shall be taken as subject to the following definition - A farmer shall be understood to mean one

who resides permanently on his farm, working it himself and deriving there from his principal and ostensible means of subsistence. 17. Competitors exhibiting animals not their own property will forfeit all prizes obtained at the Show, and be prohibited from entering any subsequent Show. 18. In section 6 and 7, the winners must be prepared, if called upon by the Committee to produce within 48 hours of getting notice, at least double the supply of the Exhibits as evidence of growth by the person showing, although if true to kind the same quality of excellence will not be insisted upon. 19. All articles for exhibition in Agricultural Hall/Marquee must be handed to the Stewards in charge, so as to have them placed in proper Section. No person shall reposition or remove Exhibit without the authority of the Stewards. 20. Competitors may enter Horses and Cattle in any class for which they are eligible but any animal that obtains a First Prize cannot be exhibited in any other Class at the same Show. They shall, however, be eligible to compete for Special Prizes. 21. Where there is only one entry in a class, this class may be cancelled and the Exhibitor notified. 22. All numbers must be attached to Animals before Judging commences, if not, No Prize will be paid. 23. All animals must be properly trained and restrained. Animals, which, in the opinion of the safety officers, are likely to become dangerous, must be removed from the grounds or enclosed in the pen provided. 24. All animals must be unloaded / loaded in special designated area/pen. 25. ISA and Virginia Show advise all Livestock exhibitors to have insurance on their animals see note in showing classes. 26. Due to administration costs entry fees can not be returned for non participation in Show. 27. All prize money must be claimed before the end of the financial year, 31st Dec. 28. The Committee will not be responsible for any goods or items left in Hall or Grounds for Show. 29. Vouchers or prizes in kind may be given in lieu of prize money 30. All Trade Stand Passes are valid until 11 am 31. Winners of Qualifiers are themselves responsible for entering their qualifiers (or exhibits) for the final, within one hour of qualifying the should present themselves to the Secretary’s office at the show for detail Please note all animals must have an individual handler at all times on the show grounds, otherwise they will be removed from the grounds or enclosed in a pen provided. Animals must only be tied to appropriate tying facilities. IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR EXHIBITORS OF CATTLE 2013 See notes at the front of the Cattle Section regarding changes to CMMS 4 Forms. NOTE: A heifer becomes a cow when she gives birth to a calf. Exhibits sent by post must reach the Secretary not later than Friday 17th August ___________________________________________________________________ All Numbers must be attached to Animals before Judging commences. IF NOT - No Prize-money will be awarded. _________________________________________________________________ Exhibits may NOT be removed from the Exhibition Hall before 5 pm please do not ask stewards to remove them before this time. _________________________________________________________________ All horse moving from one location to another must be accompanied by their passports. All passports must be registered by the current owner. It is in your own

THE IRISH SHOWS ASSOCIATION Is proud to present All Ireland Championships and wishes to acknowledge the generous sponsorships, which make these competitions possible. For the efficient running of the Championships all concerned are requested to read and observe the Rules set out below. General Rules for 2013 1. Eligibility of Shows:- Shows wishing to participate in the Championships and be eligible to hold qualifiers, must have collected the Championship Fund (currently 5%) from Horse (classes), Cattle and Sheep prizes for the year 2013 and forwarded the amount so collected, in full to the Irish Shows Association within the stipulated period of not more than 30 days from the date of the show. Alternative methods of meeting this obligation are not acceptable. 2. Qualifying rounds :Qualifying rounds will take place at designated shows by the Irish Shows Association. 3. Responsibility of Shows: Selected Shows should hold a separate class for each qualifier from which the highest placed animals will qualify. The Qualifier class should be held as the 1st class in the relevant section of the Show 4. Shows must ensure that the qualifiers are held strictly in accordance with the relevant Rules. 5. Shows may charge an entry fee for each qualifier 6. It is a condition that no other sponsor may-be involved in qualifier class. 7. Shows must appoint competent, well briefed persons to act as stewards, who must ensure that only animals (or other exhibits) which are eligible to compete and whose documentation is in order, are allowed to proceed to the judging ring. 8. Animals that have already qualified are not eligible to compete in further qualifiers at local shows in the same Championships 9. On completion of judging, Stewards must inform the successful competitors to visit the Secretary's Office at the show within one hour, and complete the necessary arrangements for entry to the final. 10. The Show must appoint a well briefed officer who will be available at the Secretary’s office to assist exhibitors to complete the entry cards for participation in the final and collect the entry fee. 11.Show Secretaries must forward duly completed result cards, together with appropriate fees to the Irish Shows Association within three days following the holding of the show. 12. Responsibility of Exhibitors; Winners of Qualifiers are themselves responsible for entering their qualifiers (or exhibits) for the final, within one hour of qualifying. 13. Winner of qualifiers will compete in the final. 14. The Irish Shows Association in conjunction with the sponsor reserves the right to alter or amend the rules of the competition as may be necessary. 15. 5% of the prize money will be collected by the show and forwarded to the I.S.A. within 30 days. 16. Any show or competitor in breach of these rules will be disqualified from competing in these Championships.

17. Shows and competitors must contact the I.S.A. for all details and information concerning these Championships and NOT the sponsor. 18. Any objections or complaints must be lodged in writing with the I.S.A. representative at the show and the Show Secretary within half an hour following the completion of the competition, together with !50 or another stated fee which is refundable in the event of the objection being upheld. 19. These general rules and those relating to the individual Championships being staged should be published in the schedule and catalogue of the participating show and strictly observed

Important notice to Animal Owners who are involved in Showing their animals

The Irish Shows Association would advise all Animal owners who have their Animals Insured to

have the Insurance cover extended to cover them while showing animals at Shows. We

understand that it cost very little or nothing at all depending on whom you have Insurance cover

with..

The reason for us giving this advice is to protect yourself in the event of your animal lashing out

and injuring someone or damaging someone’s property, if that were to happen and it is

established that your animal was out of your control you may be held responsible, or partly

responsible for any injury or damage caused and end up paying all or part of any settlement reached.

(Rule 20 applies all the way through except where stated)

Competitors may enter animals in any class for which they are eligible, but any animal that obtains

a First Prize cannot be exhibited in any other class at the Show. They shall, however, be eligible to

compete for a Special Prize. All numbers must be attached to animals before judging commences,

if not, no prize money will be awarded. Exhibitors are responsible for their exhibits at all times

while they are on show grounds

Section 1 - HORSES & PONIES

All foals must be haltered and led by an adult on their own I.H.R. Number, name of sire and dam

must appear on Entry Form

Premises Registration

As from 1 May 2012, any premises (which includes shows, fairs and markets) where horses or

other equines are gathered must be registered with the Department. Owners/persons in charge of

such gatherings are required to submit a completed application form for registration and to keep

records of movements on/off their premises.

Records required are

The name and address of the owner/person in charge of the premises from which the equine came;

The premises registration number from which the equine came and

Passport number/UEL number of the animal

It is important therefore that Show organisers should contact their local District Veterinary Office

in advance so that consideration can be given to compliance with the requirements outlined above.

Equine Identification

All Equines (which include horses, ponies and donkeys) must be identified in accordance with EU

and national legislation.

Possession of an unidentified equine is an offence under the legislation.

Passport must be issued by approved Passport Issuing Organisations [PIOs] within the calendar year

of birth [by 31 December in the year of birth] or within six months of birth [whichever is later] and

is valid for the lifetime of the animal. A list of the PIOs is set out in Appendix 1.

Microchip - all equines issued with a passport after 1st July 2009 must have a corresponding

microchip implanted by a veterinarian which is recorded in the passport and creates a link

between the passport and the animal.

A Keeper must

Have an equine registered with a PIO

Have a passport issued in accordance with EU and national legislation

Comply with the provisions of the legislation whereby a passport must accompany the equine

whenever it is moved to events such as shows, sales and to slaughter plants, etc.

or a stallion that is classified as CLASS 1 in the Irish Draught Horse Studbook.

The class is also open to Weatherby’s registered animals, the progeny of Weatherby’s

Thoroughbred Stallions that are not classified in the Irish Horse Register as Not Approved

1 (NAI) or Not Approved 2 (NA2)

Shows and Sales 2013 Information for Exhibitors

The testing requirements laid down for Shows and Sales are intended to protect the health of your

animals at the Show. Your can take further steps to ensure that your animals are not exposed to

any disease risk by:

- moving animals directly from farm to show site;

- disinfecting the vehicle used to transport your animals before loading;

- insisting that all steps necessary to protect your animals are taken by the Show Committee.

- You should contact your local D.V.O. as soon as you decide to exhibit at any show; this will

ensure that all required documentation is in order before the date of the show.

Animal Health Status

T.B:

1. All animals must come from herds that are not restricted and have had a clear herd test within

the previous twelve months. Animals over 6 weeks of age must have a T.B. test within 12

calendar months of the date of the show and/or sale.

Brucellosis

All animals must come from herds that are not restricted.

Certain animals (i.e.females aged 18 months and over and bulls aged 24 months and over) must

have passed a test for brucellosis within the previous 60 days. However, these animals may move

to any number of Shows within the validity period of the same 60-day pre-movement test. Where

such an animal(s) is /are being shown repeatedly during successive 60-day validity periods, in the

course of the Showing season, the animals(s) may be allowed to move on foot of Pemit ER 36A

during the unexpired portion of a valid test where the animal is under test for the next validity

period and the identity card/passport is held by the DVO/ practitioner

3. All animals must bear an double approved ear tag and be accompanied by an identity card

except if they are moving on Permit ER 36A.

4. IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR EXHIBITORS OF CATTLE 2013

The following changes are being introduced for keepers of bovine animals who wish to show

cattle. Keepers of cattle are now required to obtain a Certificate of Compliance prior to the

movement of an animal to a Show.

Certificates of Compliance can be obtained online from the Animal Identification and

Movement (AIM) system through the www.agfood.ie facility or from the Cattle Movement

Notification Agency. When applying for a Certificate of Compliance, keepers should not

specify a destination herd. On the day of the Show, the Certificate of Compliance should be

presented to the Show Secretary along with the bovine passport for the animal.

The keeper and the Show Secretary will then sign the Movement Notification section of the

Certificate which will then be sent to the local DVO for recording onto the AIM system.

Please not that only cattle for which a valid Certificate of Compliance is provided to the

Show Secretary will be allowed to be shown on the day of the Show.

These Certificates will replace the previously-used CMMS 4 forms.

5. Record movements both out of and into your herd in your Bovine Herd Register. For outward

movements enter “Ownership Retained” in the ‘Remarks’ column (column 9) of the Register.

All sheep must be individually identified with plastic ear tags issued on accordance with the

requirements of the National Sheep Identification System (NSIS).

Exports (to Member States of the European Union including Northern Ireland

All sheep must be accompanied by certification a laid down in Directive 91/68/EEC as amended.

Organisers are advised to contact their Local District Veterinary Office well in advance of any

show where sales may take place to determine the suitability of the show for exports

(e.g. premises and sheep status), availability of veterinary staff for export certification and to have

the necessary arrangements out in place.

Attendance of sheep from scrapie monitored flocks at shows and sales in 2011

Shows between 1st May and 31st October

Sheep from scrapie monitored flocks will be permitted to attend agricultural shows taking place

between May 1st and October 31st without restriction or separation from other categories of

sheep.

Shows outside that period

For shows taking place before May 1st or after October 31st, sheep from scrapie monitored or

probationary flocks must be separated from other sheep as follows:

There must be complete separation of monitored/probationary sheep from other categories of

sheep at the show. Ideally, this would mean a separate entrance and exit for each group, separate

loading and unloading areas, separate penning areas for each of the two groups.

In locations where all of the above may not be possible, the minimum requirement would be the

separate loading and unloading and also of penning areas. The two areas should be separated by a

sheep-free alleyway, at least 12 feet wide. If only one show ring is available, the sheep from the

scrapie-monitored flocks must be shown first.

The ‘Patrick Keoghan Cup’ and €75 will be presented to the Champion Pedigree Sheep at

the Show and €50 to the reserve champion

The ‘Hugh Faulkner Cup’ will be presented to the Champion Cross-Bred Sheep at the Show.

The Book of Kells (sometimes known as the Book of Columba) is an illuminated

manuscript Gospel book in Latin, containing the four Gospels of the New Testament together with

various prefatory texts and tables. It is a masterwork of Western calligraphy and represents the

least three different scribes. The lettering is in iron gall ink, and the colours used were derived

from a wide range of substances, many of which were imports from distant lands.The manuscript

takes its name from the Abbey of Kells that was its home for centuries. Today, it is on permanent

display at the Trinity College Library, Dublin. The library usually displays two of the current four

volumes at a time.
