CHRISTMAS LIGHT-UPTHURSDAY, NOVEMBER 27THE SANTA CLAUS PARADE & LATE NIGHT SHOPPINGThe Santa Claus parade will start at 6 p.m. leaving from and ending at the Ag Society Fairgrounds. Please contact the Chamber of Commerce if you are interested in putting in a float.

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 10JUDGING OF LIGHTSJudging of residential and commercial holiday lights will take place during the evening. Remember to turn on your lights.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5HOLIDAY TRAINThe Canadian Pacific Holiday Train, will visit Virden at 9:15 a.m. The train will stop on the north side of the tracks, on Fifth Avenue - between Lyons Street and Ashburton Street. The train stops for approximately 1 hour with the show lasting 30-45 minutes.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13PHOTOS WITH SANTAPictures with Santa will take place from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Lions Hall. Pat Siemens will once again be the photographer and she will have 5x7 pictures on hand so they will be available same day to those taking part.

FREE MATINEE MOVIEHead over to the Derrick Theatre on Nelson Street and take in a FREE matinee showing of the movie Despicable Me 2 which will start at 2 p.m.

Holiday Train to make stop in Virden

The Canadian Pacifi c Holiday Train is making a stop in Virden on Friday, December 5 at 9:15 a.m.

Salem Woodrow, spokesperson for CP said “We try to stop in as many communities as we can and

it’s great that we can add one more by including Virden.”

The train stops for about an hour with the show lasting about 30 to 45 minutes.

Canadian power pop rock band Odds will be putting on a performance. From British Columbia,

they achieved wide commercial success in the 1990s. Their CD, Cheerleader, was released in 2008. The fi rst single, My Happy Place was used during the end credits for the Canadian TV show Corner Gas.

award nominated Montreal based singer songwriter, has a blues, soul and R&B background which has seen her work with luminaries such as Colin Linden, John Hiatt and Bruce Cockburn and tour with Sue Foley and Deborah Coleman.

While the show is free, everyone is encouraged to bring a food or cash donation.

The train visits more than 150 communities across Canada and the United States. It has raised more than $9.5 million and 3.3 million pounds of food for food banks.

The monetary funds raised will go to Zoey and Zayne Espayos of Hamiota, who were born with the rare blood disorder Alpha Thalassaemia. They have been receiving blood transfusions since before they were born to keep them alive.
