From one pedal bin to an entire Vipp family

It all begins with one bin in 1939, but later Vipp develops into a complete family of products.

Today, the original bin is produced in six sizes and has been supplemented by a toilet brush

and the Vipp 9 soap dispenser. Vipp has also introduced a towel collection which is made

from 35% modal fibres and 65% cotton. The modal fibres ensure maximum absorption and

a short drying time, while the cotton makes the towels soft and strong.

To complete the bathroom furnishings, Vipp is also offering a new series of accessories

designed by the Vipp Design Lab. The series includes towel bar, towel hooks, toilet roll

holder and a shelf.

One of the newest members of the family is the Vipp 441 towel basket, which has been specially

developed to contain moist textiles. Holes in top and bottom ensure good air circulation, so

that the textiles are not destroyed. This makes the Vipp 441 highly suited for guest towels

at restaurants, beauty salons, hairdresser’s, wellness and spa. The Vipp 441 towel basket is

fitted with wheels to make it easy to move.

For the office and the home office Vipp offers the office bin, which is available in two sizes.

The Vipp office bin is originally designed by Vipps founder Holger Nielsen, but was not put

in production before 2007.

Handmade in Denmark

Vipp still manufactures its pedal bins in Denmark, just as it did back in 1939. The ma-

terials are also the same: stainless steel and rubber. Most of the bin’s components are

manufactured at Vipp’s own factory. This guarantees a high quality product which is a

joy to use on a daily basis.

Each Vipp bin consists of up to 42 components and is hand-assembled by skilled crafts-

men at our factory. One employee can assemble six bins per hour.

Holger Nielsen & his wife Marie

1939 – A love story

The year is 1939, and Holger Nielsen and Marie Axelsen have just married. Marie is a hair-

dresser, and she decides to open her own salon in Randers, a small town in Denmark. Money

is tight, so she asks her husband to help her furnish her salon, with among others a practical

and beautiful waste bin. After many hours in the workshop, he is ready to present the Vipp

pedal bin to Marie – and she is thrilled.

Like Marie, the customers in her salon love the Vipp bin. Marie’s customers think that the

bin is ideal for their husbands’ dental clinics and medical practices. The sudden demand for

the Vipp bin prompts Holger to start production on a larger scale.

Vipp – a family company

Holger Nielsen passes away in 1992, aged 78. A man with conservative views, he would never

have imagined one of his daughters taking over Vipp. However, Jette Egelund, the couple’s

youngest daughter, cannot bear to see her father’s life’s work disappear, so she decides to

take over the company. At the time, Vipp bins are exclusively sold to the professional market,

but Jette Egelund has a dream. She grew up with the pedal bin in her childhood home and

wants others to enjoy the bin in their private homes too.

The production has multiplied since 1992, and Vipp is now sold across the world. Jette is

no longer the only person steering Vipp towards new heights. Her two children, Sofie and

Kasper, have joined the company as co-owners. Vipp is now a family business in second and

third generation.
