Violent Clip Analysis:Rambo 4

My chosen violent clip is from the movie Rambo 4 that involves a sequence showing different tortures, deaths of young/old, sexual assaults and much more. All of the above mentioned contribute to a complete rough violence clip through out and a rating of my own, 10/10- with 10 being the most vicious.

Textual Analysis

These 3 images (above) show the use of cross cutting through the village and the attack from the soldiers. The explosions are big/multiple showing the vulnerability of families as they’re village blown up.

A track shot has been used to follow this man trying to save a child but he’s stopped by a big explosion in front of him connoting that they’re completely vulnerable and have no where to go.

Whereas here a mid shot shows the unmerciful soldiers shooting a kid who appears to be screaming for help as heard by the diagetic/synchronous sound.

Textual AnalysisThis high angle shot shows a brutal soldier with his boot on a kids face and his gun resting on the child's stomach, which he shoots afterwards- this signifies an unemotional/cold soldier.

Re-enforcing the brutal soldiers this long shot shows how an innocent woman is shot, without a second chance.

Furthermore, the mis en scene shows the angry facial expressions from the soldier that snatches a child out of the mother’s hands by force, then throwing the baby into a burning house.

An over the shoulder shot has been used to show one of the leaders of the attack smoking while he watches innocent people being slaughtered by a machine gun, this makes him a man who is capable of great evil as re-enforced by the sad non-diagetic music.

My opinion:I have picked this clip to show a real violent clip.Having watched the movie a while ago I was shocked and I would’ve rated this as an 18 under any circumstances. The violence is immense as shown by the tortures, murders, assaults and what humans are capable of. Overall, it also left me thinking that our world is filled with hate which usually ends up becoming a clone situation as the movie, Rambo 4.
