INTRODUCTION

Sixth Sense in scientific (or non-scientific) terms is defined as Extra

Sensory Perception or in short ESP

The technology instead allows users to be part of the physical world

and still access the digital information existing of World Wide Web

“Sixth Sense” attempts to free information from its confines by

seamlessly integrating it with reality, and making entire world your

computer.

Our ordinary computers will soon be able to sense the different feelings

accumulated in surroundings it is all gift of “Sixth sense technology”

SIXTH SENSE DEVICE

What is sixth sense device ?

Sixth Sense is a wearable gestural interface device that augments the physical world with digital information

Sixth Sense comprises a pocket projector, a mirror and a camera. The components are coupled in a pendant like mobile wearable device

TECHNOLOGIES RELATED TO SIXTH SENSE DEVICE

Augmented Reality It is a visualization technology allows the

user to experience the virtual experience added over real world in real time.

It adds graphics, sounds, hepatic feedback and smell to the natural world as it exists

Gesture recognition

It is a technology which is aimed at interpreting human gestures with the help of mathematical algorithms

This technique basically special type of hand gloves provide information about hand position orientation and flux of the fingers

TECHNOLOGIES(cont..)

Gestures typesFree hand gesturesIconic gesturesMulti touch gestures

Radio Frequency Identification

This system transmit the identity of an object wirelessly, using radio magnetic waves. The main purpose of this technology is to enable the transfer of a data via portable deviceThis technology is widely used in the fields like asset tracking, management , manufacturing payment system etc.

TECHNOLOGIES(cont..)

Computer visionComputer vision is the technology in which machines are able to interpret necessary information from an image

It includes various fields like image processing, image analysis and machine vision it includes certain aspect of artificial intelligence like Pattern recognition

COMPONENTS

Camera

Projector

Mirror

Smart phone

Color markers

COMPONENTS

CAMERA

The camera is the key input device Act as digital eye of the system

Captures an object in view and tracks the user’s hand gestures It sends

the data to smart phone

MIRROR

The usage of the mirror is significant as the projector dangles pointing

downwards from the neck

COLOR MARKERS

Four colour markers are used they are interpreted into gestures

It act as interaction instructions for the projected application interfaces

Page 9: vimal kumar's presentation on Sixth sense technology & its working

COMPONENTS(cont..)

PROJECTOR

It projects visual information enabling surfaces and physical objects to

be used as interfaces

The project itself contains a battery inside, with 3hours of battery life.

A tiny LED projector displays data sent from the smart phone on any

surface in view- object, wall or a person

SMART PHONE

A web engaged smartphone in the user’s pocket process the video data

Other software searches the Web and interprets the hand gestures

WORKING OF SIXTH SENSE DEVICE

The projector projects visual images on a surface. Thus, the entire world is available on your screen now

When the user moves their hands with coloured markers on the finger tips, the camera captures these movements. Both the projector and the camera are connected to the mobile computing device

Recognition is made using computer vision technique markers act as visual tracking fiducially

Software program process this video stream data and interprets the movements into gestures. The gestures are different from one another and re assigned some commands

Example:@ is used for opening email

WORKING(cont..)

The mirror reflects the image formed by the projector to front. The entire hard ware is fabricated in the form of pendant

Thus, digital information is freed from its confines and placed in the physical word

It works very similar like a touch screen phone with entire world as the screen

OUR IDEA ON SIXTH SENSE

Page 14: vimal kumar's presentation on Sixth sense technology & its working

ADVANTAGES

It is a user friendly interface which integrates digital information

It does not change human habits but causes computer and other machines to adapt to human needs

It uses hand gestures to interact with digital information. Support multi-touch and multi-user interaction

Data access directly from machine in real time.

It is gesture-controlled wearable computing device that feeds our relevant information and turns any surface into an interactive display

CONCLUSION AND FUTURE SCOPE

Conclusion

This technology can be used as a replacement of the 5th senses for handicapped peoples & provide easy control over machineries The device software is going to be open source. This will enable individuals to make their own apps depending upon needs

Future scope

As this technology will emerge may be new devices and hence forth new markets will evolve. Mystery made own tablet computer using a just piece of paper, a microphone and a camera

There will be a significant market competitor to the Sixth technology since it still required some hardware involvement with the user
