Jamaican Reggae/Dancehall Artist Ryan Douglas, more popularly known as Gage, born on the 16

th of December, has ventured on the scene of the mu-

sic industry in Jamaica recently. In his early years as a teenager while attending Denbigh High School in May Pen, Gage recognized that his passion was music. His life has always been about music. Since then, he developed this desire by entering various major competi-tions locally, such as the popular Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall and many clashes for Moby Records. These proved to be the stepping stones for Gage; he learnt a lot from them and is now using them to help in his vision of reaching the top.

Gage has performed across various parishes in Jamaica, and has informally shared var-

ious stages with Sizzla Kalonji and Munga Honourable at events held in his community. There-fore, he is no stranger to the music fraternity. Gage shot his first video for the song “Boom Boom” which is lyrically sounding, fun and catchy. It is produced by top producer DJ Ka-rim and his personal management team, Dutty Fridaze Promotions. He has shot the videos for his smash hits “Walking Gun” on the Afterlife Riddim, produced by Justus and Roach for their JA Productions label, “In Deh, In Deh”, “Nitty Gritty”, “Hey Mama” and “Kitty Kat”. Viral videos are on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for his too-hot-for-TV tracks like “Put It Yasso”, “Throat” and “Bonita (Hey Mama, part 2)”. Many more singles and videos are in the making which are expected to be released throughout this year.

This talented, young, fast learner and motivated Artist has an indescribable passion for

music and he intends to cross over on the international scene real soon. He intends to make his music the top choice for listeners across the world as they will feel it and can easi-ly and readily relate to its messages and positive vibes. Jamaica and the rest of the music world can keep their eyes and ears open for Gage as his journey in the music industry has great things in store. Gage has in mind to compile an album that will touch the lives of people so they can look out for it coming soon.

Gage has travelled to Trinidad where his “In Deh, In Deh” track received the greatest

feedback due to its Soca vibe. Team Gage will be embarking on a few tours in 2014, including

Canada in August and a month long tour of Europe in September. Gage is consistently striving

in the music business, doing what he does best: MUSIC. He is highly revered around the

world and his buzz keeps getting stronger and stronger, making him one of the most popular

new Artists in several countries.

Team Gage consists of Cornelius “Neil” Daley as his Road Manager, Shomani “DJ Kitt”

Hayles who is the official DJ for Gage and Lesley “LesleyOdyssey” Hayles who controls the

bookings and PR. Vanclive “Father Bulla” Parris, the older brother of West Indies Cricketer

Chris Gayle, is the manager of Gage and CEO of Dutty Fridaze Promotions.

'FASHION101 with Neicy: ‘BRINGING OUT THE FASHIONISTA IN YOU’

By Nekisha Cyrus (NEICY)

Hello to all my Fashionistas out there, I really hope that you enjoyed my Fashion tips in last

month‟s issue. We were just getting warmed up, lol and I am back with more informative tips for

you all. Hope you are beginning to feel like some REAL Fashionistas. „Fashion‟ to me encourages

one to have a greater level of self-esteem. Here are some more keys to „Bringing out that Fashion-

ista in you‟ and I will like to get a little bit more specific, if you don‟t mind….

ATITUDE IS KEY- Yes I said it!!! A-T-T-I-T-U-D-E- It isn‟t always a bad thing, if used cor-

rectly. Some people think if you have an attitude (in the world of fashion) it automatically

means that you‟re negative, I think otherwise. The right attitude helps you to own that outfit.

A Fashionista understands that the clothes doesn‟t make you, you make the clothes. So atti-

tude is extremely necessary. I believe that your attitude adds to your confidence when rocking

your favorite styles to even the simplest outfit. Whatever you‟re wearing should look like it

was made for you and only you, even if it wasn‟t. So let your attitude speak through your

clothes. You can‟t look fab and feel bad at the same time, it shows. Becoming a Fashionista

means that you‟re learning to speak the language of Fashion and your attitude can be consid-

ered the tone of that language.

COMFORT IS KEY- Who doesn‟t like feeling comfortable? We all do, I grew up hearing the

saying, “Being beautiful hurts” or “It pains to be pretty”. I disagree, totally. Your comfort

should be a main priority when developing your own fashion sense. Many times we follow

others and mimic what everyone else is doing or wearing because it‟s considered the latest

trends in fashion. Even if we‟re not comfortable wearing certain styles- whether it may in the

form of our clothes, shoes, hairstyles, etc. You‟re the only one who has the best knowledge

about your personal likes and dislikes. Don‟t let others influence your decision. Understand

your shape, LEARN your sizes- Be you!!! Even if it may be the latest trends, unless you can

feel totally comfortable in your own skin. Put your own comfort first and stand strong by it J

As much as I know about fashion, there is still a lot more to explore and learnt, so I like to make this blog as interactive as pos-

sible. I share my tips and you guys can share yours- learning and sharing knowledge is the main focus of this article.

And I always like to end with a positive quote- „Dream big, work smart and pursue your goals. And always remember

that a goal without an action plan is just a dream’- Love Neicy J

KARAMANTI

Though the Reggae/Dancehall industry is dominated by men, Karamanti stands as a strong black

woman, (in her home town of Kingston, Jamaica) raining showers of conscious lyrics to a genera-

tion far from reality.

Karamanti have been creating music since she was eight years old. Falling in love first with rap (or

hip-hop), then embracing Dancehall and now passionate about Reggae. And although she has been

making music for most of her life, she only began to pursue it as a career in 2011. This commitment

came through encouragement from others who heard her music and convinced her to take the neces-

sary steps to ensure that others hear it as well.

Though she is regarded as a reality artist, Karamanti has no problems stepping outside her box

from time to time and engaging listeners in what she refers to as pure entertaining rhetoric. This is

what she did on her single “don’t it” which was produced by Red Boom from Hard at Work Music, a

Jamaica based record label. The track exposed her to a different audience who overwhelmingly in-

sisted on a video, which was produced and released to TV in May 2012. Karamanti spent the month

of July/2012 engaged in a nationwide media tour which had her performing and/or being inter-

viewed on all the major entertainment radio and TV programs in Jamaica. That media tour was fol-

-lowed up with a Canadian tour which saw her hitting the stage on major events such as the Montreal

Reggae Festival and the Toronto Rasta Festival.

After returning to Jamaica, Karamanti learnt that another single she had recorded for Food Palace Music

months earlier, was now released and had gained traction. The song, which is called “read”, began to get

heavy radio rotation and has even entered a few charts. One of which was the Top Ten Conscious Chart

which airs on Jamaica’s Roots FM. “Read” was the number one song for the week of November 2nd2012.

The song also captured the attention of one of the biggest promoters in Sweden who eventually booked

Karamanti for her first ever European tour which she is currently on. Karamanti entered Sweden on

April 21st, 2013 and have since done shows in Gothenburg and Stockholm as well as Aarhus and Copen-

hagen in Denmark.

Prior to leaving Jamaica, Karamanti worked ceaselessly on her first studio album which was digitally re-

leased on April 25th, 2013.The album is called Dancehall Retaliates and it addresses some of the negative

stereotypes about Dancehall music, culture and lifestyle. The project features production from two of Ja-

maica’s most sought after young producers; Ricardo “Red Boom” Reid and Shamarie “Digital Sham” Bo-

gle. Karamanti and her team decided to include three previously released singles on the album, they are;

“don’t it”, “read” and “nobody cyaa stop we” featuring 3 Star, otherwise, all the tracks are new recordings.

Dancehall Retaliates is available on all major online music stores and has been getting good reviews from

both the public and the media.

In 2014 Karamanti decided to turn a new page, she decided that it was necessary to do more collabora-

tions with international artists and producers as she now wants to be seen as an international recording

artist. As such she connected with Ghanaian producer Infectious, and did a song entitled “Letter 2 Ghana”

which immediately created a buzz in that country. The success of “Letter 2 Ghana” attracted other estab-

lished Ghanaian artists to Karamanti. She was approached by Iwan (arguably the top Reggae/Dancehall

artist there) who featured Karamanti on his single called “Africa”. She also did a very powerful song for

Canadian based producer, Street Digital, called “Domestic Abuse”.
