As the pop–funk singer/songwriter of Lil Wayne’s eclec c  label crew of winning ar sts Young Money,

Universal/Republic songstress SHANELL aka SNL is far from the average vocalist. The singer/songwriter

who’s built a formidable name penning tracks for ar sts Ne‐Yo, Kelis, Beyonce, Melanie Fiona, Jennifer

Hudson and many others has stepped out behind the soundboard  and up to the mic with a  crea ve pen

and sultry voice that’s already proven to rock arena crowds.

A classically trained dancer in the disciplines  of ballet, jazz and modern dance, Shanell begin her career in

music with a professional edge that quickly garnered  her steady work as a in‐demand dancer for music

videos for hit ar sts like Ciara. “ On my first audi ons, I showed up  in  ghts and toe shoes. I was stretch‐

ing on the wall and everyone else audi oning in sweats and sneakers look at me like I was crazy. But I was‐

n't crazy, I was a dancer”.

Dancing on sets by day and wri ng songs in‐studio by night to the tracks of hit‐making producer and

friend Bangladesh, Shanell quickly begin to make a name for herself as a songwriter. However it wasn't

long before Shanell would pack up her notepad and pro‐tools to head on tour when she was tapped to be‐

come one of the principal dancers for Grammy award winning ar st NE‐YO.

While use every free moment on tour to write and record songs for ar sts and groups like DANITY KANE,

word of her wri ng talent con nued to spread across Atlanta and it was not long a er that the very per‐

son she was dancing on tour would come knocking. NE‐YO, and overhearing Shanell prac cing a song one

evening, snagged one of her tracks which became “ Say IT” a track on his album  Because Of You.

Page 6: Ville Ventures Online July issue

Pu ng together an edgy showcase at Atlanta’s local club, The Underground, the news of Shanell

becoming an ar st brought key music industry taste makers  and heavyweights like NE‐YO and

USHER out to show their support. “ Everyone was great and from that point I moved up full

speed ahead,” says Shanell.

While in search of a label home that would give her that crea ve space for her ‘Rock‐&‐B’ pop

sound, she turned down several record deal offers that she felt did not fit un l fellow ar st and

superstar impresario, Lil Wayne came to her with an offer that wouldn’t ar s cally box her in.

One day in the studio where she brought Wayne the Bangladesh produced beat  she suggested

he use for his forthcoming album ( and subsequently became the sound for Wayne’s Grammy

award winning breakout single “ A‐Milli”),  Wayne suggested that she “quit giving away song,

you can do what you’re doing over here.” Lil Wayne , who she’d met while performing on the “

Up, Close & Personal” tour featuring the MC, Chris Brown and Ne‐Yo, was referring to his  bur‐

geoning label, Young Money, an off‐shoot of Cash Money records where the MC housed acts like

Drake and Nicki Minaj.

Shanell agreed, joined Wayne’s camp and has since been moving full thro le. She toured with

Young Money in support of their 2009 self  tled album, wrote four songs for Lil Wayne’s  chart

topping , cer fied Gold Rock/Hip Hop Album, “Rebirth”, including the song “Prom Queen”.

Working  with producers like Bangladesh, David Gue a, Salaam Remi, Cool & Dre, Hit Boy and

Jus ce League for her latest mixtape release “ Shut Up & Listen”, Shanell draws on her mul ‐

genre inspira on for the Pop Fusion tracks she writes and performs. “ I’m developing a sound

based on everything I know, I want to fuse everything into one unique sound”, she says.

With ample crea vity , an energe c  live show, proven pen skills,  and a ever growing base of

fans across genres, Shanell is quickly  making a game changing name for herself  and a refreshing

new mark in music today.

Destra Garcia, born  in Trinidad, has grown  from  strength  to  strength  since her 1999 debut and  the entertainer  is

showing no signs of slowing down — challenging herself every year, taking her music and her fans along for the ex‐

ci ng journey.

Her music has already proved its staying power and its ability to cap vate mul ple markets. Destra has won fans the

world over and has set the mark for high energy live sets that leave audiences wan ng more.

She firmly believes that you learn more as you grow. From experiences you learn from your choices. You have to do

what you have to do to make yourself happy.

She barely has  me for herself, comple ng gigs with her band as well as handling solo performances and now her

pride and new found joy to her life baby girl – Xaiya.

That’s just one of the sacrifices she’s had to make for her success. Another  is spending quality  me with her family

and friends.

2006 – Destra signs up with telecommunica ons giant, Digicel to become their first female spokeswoman in Trini‐

dad and Tobago.

Destra has shared the stage with interna onal superstars like the Heather Headley, Sean Paul, Shaggy, Ja‐Rule,

Rihanna, Mary J Blige, Pa  La Belle, Natalie Cole, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder and Beyonce.

Destra has now released seven albums, her first being Red White and Black in 2003, “Laven lle (pre release” &

“Laven lle” ‐ 2005, “Independent Ladies” – 2006, “Soca or Die” – 2007, “HOTT” – 2008, “Welcome Back” –

2011 showcases all of her hit songs for 2011 as a soloist and having done three (3) collabora ons, con nues

to be a favorite with her music now available at Amazon and i‐Tunes. Her two (2) new releases (Beau ful Day

and Breaking Away) have also created waves in the dance and house music categories and are featured in her

latest Album release “MY DESTTRA.COM” ‐ 2012.

For the past eight years Destra has won many awards and accredita ons some of which include 15 Soca Awards

and five COTT awards three of which were best female songwriter from 2004‐2007 and best pan song

2006. She remains the most requested female Soca ar sts of the Caribbean and the world. Her latest ac‐

claim would be “Best Female Soca Performer” at the IRAWMA awards which were held in Trinidad in

2011.

Another great accomplishment for the lady of many talents is the acquisi on of having her own band for the last

four years alongside her two other business partners.

Addi onally, she’s determined to achieve her dream of taking Soca music to interna onal markets. A guaranteed hit

with music loving audiences everywhere, her energe c performances and eye‐catching costumes, commanding cam‐

eras, you might think,  it’s easy for all her success to go to her head but Destra knows the ropes  in the compe ve

music arena. Audiences and cri cs always have their noses in the air for the next best thing, but she is prepared and

her maturity is evident in her demeanor, her command of the stage, her wri ng and her sense of self.

Also Destra’s Mobile App is up and running. All fans can download her App on Mydestra.com

DELUS

Page 14: Ville Ventures Online July issue

Delus, a son of the rugged streets of Kingston, Jamaica, has always had a passion for music. His deep-seated passion is as a result of his influence by musical icons such as Buju Banton, Spragga Benz, and Beres Ham-mond. In pursuit of his dreams, Delus hung out at the Youth Man Promotion/Black Roots Studio owned by the late, Lincoln “Sugar” Minott.

His first recording was with his brother, Konshens. The duo recorded under the name Sojah which means “Sons of Jah.” Their first single “Medz Pon Di Corner” for the Cash Flow label, went to number one in Japan in 2004, which afforded them the opportunity to tour in that Asian territory. The tour prompted the release of the duo’s debut album titled “Sons of Jah.”

Following the success of the album, Delus decided to pursue a solo career. In 2007, he released singles such as “Nymphomaniac” and “Power” on the Cash Flow Label and “Move” on the Rapid Fire Label. During that time Delus displayed his versatility when he directed and edited music videos for artists such as Bescenta, Warrior King, Tiana and a medley that included artists such as D'Angel, Mr. Peppa, Delly Ranx, Sojah and Spragga Benz.

Additionally, he worked on projects such as "Some Gal" on the Outada Riddim by Seanizzle, "Gal or War" for Mr. G's Young Blood, remixes by D&H (Daddy & Hypa) out of France, with Tracks like "Whatever You Like (Anything U Want)" Remix with Rapper T.I. featuring Delus & Nicole, "Gangsta Remix" with Mavado featuring Delus & Vybz Kartel and “Arab Money” dubbed "Gangsta Money" with Busta Rhymes featuring Delus.

In 2009, he promoted the singles “Gang War,” from the Exile Production Label, along with his latest videos for chart topping singles “True Love,” from Media House Production, “She’s Happy” featuring Konshens, “Heathen Dem Nuh Like Me” from Miguel Music and “Loose Control” on the Substance Riddim from Young Veterans Productions. Later that same year, Sojah released their sophomore album titled “Modern Revolu-tions,” at which time the duo went on tour in Europe to promote the album. The album featured artists such as Luciano and Iriepathie. Dancehallusa.com wrote, “When you talk about a complete album, “Modern Revolution” is a fine example. Each and every song tells its own story but still manages to keep a connection between all the other tracks on the LP.”

Through a distribution deal with Zojak World Wide in 2010, Delus released an EP “My Reality” which is availa-ble on iTunes and other digital outlets. He completed a six week promotional tour of the United States. The tour, which was sponsored by Nuvo, Carol’s Daughter, JAMROCK Magazine, Whereitzat Magazine, Upscale Crowd, Negril Village Restaurant and Link Up Radio, was a concerted effort to broaden Delus’ fan base and increase airplay of his music. During that time Delus released his single “Another Gal” which was well re-ceived by radio and fans in Jamaica and abroad. Additionally, Delus released the medley video for “Another Gal” which features his brother, Konshens and fellow recording artists, Darrio and Chris Martin. The popularity of the single afforded Delus the opportunity to travel to Japan on a two week tour.

In 2011 he was nominated for an EME Award (Excellence in Music and Entertainment) in the category ‘Most Improved Artiste’.

The singer who has written songs for College Boys entitled “God Alone,” “Sanity” for LMR (Love, Money, Re-spect) Productions, “Mek Dem Sorry” for Subkonshus Music, “Unruly” for Live Up Records, is just getting started.

In late 2012 to 2013, he released the singles Get Away for Warrior Music/Subkonshus Music; Galls from Birth for Blaqk Sheep; Let Me Love You (Chillax rhythm) for Frankie Music; Live My Life featuring Konshens on the Mad Panamera rhythm; and Hussler featuring Darrio on the Money up Rhythm for 12 to 12 Music.

Delus gained some new ground in 2012 and delivered creditable performances at events including Sting and Reggae Sumfest. Additionally, he signed with Subkonshus Music to manage his career.

Kitchener found success in the UK in the 1950s, building a large following in the expatriate communi es of the West Indian islands. His fame con nued throughout the 1950s, when calypso achieved interna‐onal success. Kitchener became a very important figure to those first 5,000 West Indian migrants to the

UK. His music[4] spoke of home and a life that they all longed for but in many cases couldn't or wouldn't return to. He immortalized the defining moment for many of the migrants in wri ng the Victory Calypso with its lyrics "Cricket, Lovely Cricket" to celebrate West Indies cricket team's first victory over England in England, in the 2nd Test at Lord's in June 1950. This was one of the first widely‐known West Indian songs, and epitomized an event that historian and cricket enthusiast C. L. R. James defined as crucial to West Indian post‐colonial socie es. The song, later recorded by Lord Beginner, is rarely credited to Lord Kitchener although Tony Cozier and many who a ended the Test at The Oval can a est that it was a Kitch composi on. In England, Kitchener started out working in London pubs. At first there were difficul‐es with English audiences who did not understand all the words, but that did not deter Kitch, and a er

the BBC gave him a chance to broadcast, he moved on to club bookings, and was soon performing in three clubs every night.

Born in Manhattan, NY raised in Jamaica, Yendi’s foundation was rooted at age four listening to the sweet sounds of Teddy Pen-dergrass, legend Bob Marley and the Wailers, Etta James, Michael Jackson, and many more. She attended Edna Manley Perform-ing Arts School in Kingston, Jamaica where she was trained music appreciation, orchestra, acting, dance, and art . Her mother was determined to move her to the U.S. with hopes of her attending Juliard Performing Arts School. At age twelve Yendi joined a gospel group in Philadelphia, then later left the group and moved back to Florida. Then was signed to Luke Records in the trio group, “1-305” in Miami, Fl with label mates Trick Daddy and No Good But So Good. Unfortunately due to label issues and legal matters the group ended in 1997, and at age 17, Yendi made moves on her own to fulfill her dreams as a performer and song-writer.. In 2000, Yendi then started traveling doing shows and meeting with executives in New York for that next “big break”.Yendi started to learn the true struggles of being an unknown artist, but she used that as a tool to improve her under-standings. In 2002, she then did a duo with artist, Drag On of Ruff Ryder’s and in 2002 did a record with Manny Fresh from Cash money. Yendi spent the rest of her years developing her talent by performing, writing on mix tape instrumentals, and develop-ing other artist. She has worked with many known artist such as former Jive Records artist, Casely, beat bangers Cool & Dre of Epidemic Records, No Good But So Good, Trick Daddy of Slip & Slide Records, and many more. Yendi graduated from the Art In-stitute in December of 2007 with an associate in Broadcasting, with music production experience. She now sings with the band "Groovology" at local events as well as other bands like Multi-Platinum/ Grammy producer Bigg D band, Bottom Shelf, and jazz band Soul Inc. Yendi’s passion is to use all her talents to achieve all that she can in the entertainment industry, and leave a stamping memory that will inspire others to be their best.

By the time she'd been "discovered" by Vybz Kartel as a teenager, Kim had already had some success in televised talent Competitions in Jamaica like the famed Digicel Rising Stars, Tastees Talent Search and Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall. Before that she'd tasted local success winning medals as a member of her School Choir. In 2008 she was introduced to Kartel who opined at the time – "Kim has the ability to go very far in the music business". To this end he signed her to a management deal with his then fledgling Gaza Empire and promptly gave her the stage name Gaza Kim. 'Teenage Pregnancy', ' Amen', 'Bills' (also Ft: Lisa Hype), and a remake of Shabba Ranks' 'Twice My Age' with her then mentor, Kartel and 'I Love You' served to consoli-date her promise as a hitmaker. Unfortunately, the union was dissolved after an incident involving members of the Gaza entourage and Kim and her brother left the singer hospi-talized and seeking to sever all ties with the "Empire". "Sometimes I try to avoid that name", Revealed Kym in an interview in England, "But it's the name that got me into the music business." She then approached Bounty Killer – an artist renowned for recognizing and nurturing young talent -at a nightclub in Kingston. The artist who was already aware of Kim di-rected her to his in-house Producer and engineer, Austin 'Kevin' Green of Payday Mu-sic. The Grammy Award-winning producer who incidentally shared a birthday with her received her with open arms. With that she would become an affiliate of Bounty Killer's Alliance organization and released tracks like 'Haffi Come Back', 'Bubble', 'When We're Apart', 'Whine Pon It', 'Hush and 'Got To Go Right Now'. "Right now I just see myself as Kym Hamilton – some people call me Alliance Kym. When I go to certain places and I'm expecting them to call me 'Kym Hamilton' or 'Alliance Kym' – they're sticking with the 'Gaza Kim' and…. I don't know….. Right now I'm just going for the fans! – If you want to call me Gaza Kim you call me Gaza Kim! If you want to call me Alliance Kym – you call me Alliance Kym – I am one person and I will answer! I guess I'll just have to accept it because it's the birth name." In August 2011 Kym was nominated for the Best International Female Artist Award at the British Reggae Awards with two of her heroes – Tanya Stephens and Queen Ifrica. Just to be nominated with those ladies alone after the long journey she'd had to reach there felt like a win in itself! So regardless of the outcome you can rest assured that Kym will still be smiling.

TAMARA BUBBLE

Page 29: Ville Ventures Online July issue

PICTURE THE ULTIMATE BLEND OF POP, R&B, JAZZ, HIP HOP AND SOUL. MUSIC THAT DEFIES GENRE. DELIVERED WITH RAW VOCALS AND HEARTFELT EMO-TION, TAMARA CREATES TIMELESS HITS THAT WILL BE AROUND FOR YEARS TO COME

In a world where emerging artists are constantly given advice to stay in their lane and maintain creativity, Tamara has been a granted a permit to serve her soulful melodies to the masses on a platter of music genres. She reigns in the independent music realm as the Pop, R&B, Jazz and Hip-Hop singing sensation that has also been known to spit a few bars, act and model.

Tamara was born in Brooklyn, NY with a beautifully strong voice that could easily pierce a rowdy crowd and calm them to listeners, admirers even. As a youngster, she grew up singing background and harmony on her church choir, but soon took the lead. Before long, she began to take charge of more than the microphone with music collaborations, songwriting for ASCAP and live performances at the Apollo Theatre and Williamsburg music festival. Her strong stage presence always leaves the crowd in tears because Tamara commands the attention with her raw vocals and enticing melodies. Tamara has even appeared in the Boston Globe, on NBC TV and in numerous blogs, media outlets and publications showing off her irresistible smile, bubbly personality and ultimate love for the camera.

Tamara has been teasing her way to a well-rounded catalogue of music. In January 2012, she released her debut project ‘Sneak Preview’ which included a classic jazz, yet sexy and soulful remake of ‘Fever’ as well as some amazing original material including “Sue You For Love” and more. Then in November 2012, Tamara was back with another EP “Unleashed”. Her sophomore project was at the very least outspoken. She let her lyr-ics do all the talking, while rapping on dance tracks, singing . It’s was a no holds barred array of music in several genres all cleverly put together. In December 2012, while there weren’t many independent artist dabbling in Holiday music, Tamara effortlessly brought an original hip hop track “Hey Santa” that was a holiday favorite during the Christmas season. She didn’t stop there. In April 2013, Tamara was back at it again with another round of goodness. Tamara embarked on a socially conscious EP Public Service An-nouncement. And with a theme song “Do Your Part”, Tamara has willingly embraced boldness, creativity and comedy in her music singing about issues ranging from sagging pants to murder to overcrowded prisons on some Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop and R&B produc-tions. In addition to the positive messages in the music, Tamara still manages to give more! Proceeds for the first six month after release go to charities that Tamara says are already seeking to help our communities and society as a whole.

Her music influences stem from legends and her songwriting concepts are powerful, comical and sexy; attributes that keep her supporters growing and take first-timers by storm. Tamara writes about love and communication. She says what needs to be said telling more than both sides of the story. She spares no feelings and literally steps on toes as some of the lyrics in her songs suggest that the people involved may get hurt. There’s something to be said about an artist who can passionately, yet playfully sing about a kitty cat and still manage to connect with music lovers from 8 months to 108 years of age.

“Out of many one people” was born Latrar Sco  and out of her love and

passion for music “Lala Pink Doll” came to life. Hailing from the

musical land of beauty, Latrar was born in King‐ston, Jamaica.

As with any true ar st, her musical gi  from God was discovered early in her life. From the tender age of 8 years old, Lala discovered the joy that music not only brought to her soul, but also touched those around her. Immigra ng to Ameri‐ca at an early age, Lala became influenced by vari‐ous musical genre.

Residing in Queens, NY she was s ll surrounded by her Caribbean roots of Reggae and Dancehall, but turning the dial on the radio and television exposed her to R&B and Hip Hop.

Thus she men ons Diana King, Lady Saw, Patra, MC Lyte and Monie Love as some of her early in‐spira ons. It is from that eclec c mix of music that she found her authen city. Lala writes and sings from her soul. Although the subject varies, it comes from her every day

life and surroundings, fashion, men, hardship or party… just lyrical

honesty! The name Lala Pink Doll derived from her childhood nickname Lala paired up with her love for fashion.

Her cute smile and Angelique face, her sense of style is reminiscent of a doll. It is undeniable that music and fashion are constantly interac ng and Lala Pink Doll is the living proof. It is a er her ma‐jor appearance and placing top ten at Magnum Kings & Queens Of Dancehall that Lala set her sights on solo stardom. Performing to an audi‐ence, the support of friends and new found fans gave the valida on that music was indeed her des ny, a er all as she says in her own words “If you believe you can achieve”.

Born on New Year’s Day to Ramanand and Judy, Sajivan Gayadeen, stage name “F.L.O.‐For Ladies Only”, is the second of three children. Raised in Princes Town, even as a li le child, he always displayed a passion for the entertainment industry. This profound love for music and being an entertainer could be a ributed to the fact that his father was a musician, more specifically a drummer, and one of the founders of the cross‐over band “The T&TEC Gayatones”. Sajivan himself has always loved any type of drums and has a weakness for any good rhythm. As a child, he would be the first on stage dancing away to the music of the Gayatones. Growing up with such a musical background , he had the opportunity of associa ng with great ar stes and veterans in the music industry such as Sundar Popo, Rikki Jai, Raymond Ramnarine and Ravi B (just to name a few). This interac on played an instrumental role and further fueled his desire of becoming a great entertainer.

F.L.O.’s first performance was at a significant milestone in his life ‐ his big brother’s wedding – and though it was purely a hear elt yet fun‐filled gesture, who would have known that it would be the beginning of his musical career. Two years lat‐er, in 2010, his first single was released en tled “Cable Fuh So”, which was followed by “Stamina” and “Pushy Gyul” in 2011. In that same year, he also did a film song remake of “Mere Sapnon Ki Rani”. Then in 2012, F.L.O.’s contribu ons for the Carnival season were “Buss Dat Wine” and “Iz Wuk”. He worked with well‐known producers such as Rishi Mahatoo, Ri‐shi Gayadeen and Diisimo on these various tracks, which included collabora ons with performers such as Sally Sagram, Vekash Sahadeo and Oscar B.

His first professional performance consisted of three shows in 24 hours, which he did with ease. He has performed in vari‐ous night clubs and major events including All‐Inclusive events throughout Trinidad. He was also a radio announcer on 103FM for a brief period, and has been nominated for various awards in the music industry.

Carnival 2013 was an even ul  me for F.L.O.  He released his first soca track en tled “Wining Pleaser”, which was produced by the renowned Precision Produc ons. Moreover, to complement this first soca contribu on, he worked with Iconic Image and Sean P. to produce an accompanying video, with views that con nue to climb on YouTube. He also appeared on Syner‐gy Tv’s “Friday Night live” with his entourage of dancers, as well as performed at various establishments such as Woodford Café, 51 degrees, Nuvo Sera and The Rise. In addi on, he was also featured on the radio sta on Next 99.1’s Pavement Lime as well as their Soca City Road Show, not forge ng to men on that he hosted an episode of the “Music Vault” which airs on Gayelle Tv.

Aside from his avid love for music, he also has a great love and respect for family. He regards his family as one of the most important pillars in his life and guards these rela onships with his own life. The main driving force in his life was his grand‐ma. She was instrumental in raising him and moulding him into the person he is today, and her strength and support s ll lives on even though she is no longer physically with us.

This dynamic, outgoing yet down‐to‐earth entertainer loves to put on an energy‐filled performance that wows not only the mind but the eyes. Sajivan’s main mission is to become the best entertainer he can be and he con nues to strive for this, as his live performances would demonstrate through his flair for fashion and his tantalising on‐stage presence. He believes all is possible with perseverance and hard work, and with the passion and love for music that courses through his veins, noth‐ing can stop him from realizing his dream of one day pu ng on what would be described by all as “the greatest show on earth”.

One of the 20th century's most charisma c and challenging performers, Bob Marley's renown now transcends the role of reggae luminary: he is regarded as a cultural icon who implored his people to know their history "coming from the root of King David, through the line of Solomon," as he sang on "Blackman Redemp‐on"; Bob urged his listeners to check out the "Real Situa on" and to rebel against

the vampiric "Babylon System". "Bob had a rebel type of approach, but his rebel‐liousness had a clearly defined purpose to it," acknowledges Chris Blackwell, the founder of Island Records, who played a pivotal role in the Bob Marley biography by introducing Marley and the Wailers to an interna onal audience. "It wasn't just mindless rebelliousness, he was rebelling against the circumstances in which he and so many people found themselves."
