This town estate has been developed in an area known asDubrovnik’s historic gardens, where fresh fruit andvegetables were grown for the town as early as the 13th

century. Some 200 years ago, parallel to the opening of theroad below and construction of the Old Hospital – which istoday the University of Dubrovnik, Villa 2 gets its present daylayout. This is comprised of the master house and gardenterraces with several independent units.Unaltered for the majority of the 20th century, recently Villa2was carefully restored, brought back its former glory of atypical 19th century town residence. Some of the originaldetails in the master house vividly evoke those times gone by:glass double doors facing the main entrance, cast-ironhandrails along the central staircase and floor mosaics. Thebedrooms feature ceiling paintings, and you also find stoneand wooden staircases.

The wonderful hillside terraced gardens, which lushlyembrace the master house, are typical of Dubrovnik. Given itsvicinity to the UNESCO protected Old Town, this area is underclose supervision of Croatia’s Ministry of Culture. Thishighlights why the renovation was undertaken with theutmost care in strong collaboration with numerousrestoration experts and the local Department of Conservation.

Still, the present day Villa 2was designed in a contemporarystyle, fully air-conditioned and equipped with all top-notchappliances necessary for maximum comfort. It providesguests with a subtle historical dimension skilfully fitted tomodern travellers’ expectations.

Villa 2 sits between two streets, both ultimately leading to theOld Town. Enjoy the calm and serene promenade on the upperstreet, historically called Via degli O (Garden Street). Passing the main gate, five green terraces open up on eachside of the central stone staircase leading up to the masterhouse. This is a mesmerizing view: stone-lined greens of typicalMediterranean sorts such as citruses, loquat, pomegranate andlavender. View the herb gardens and amenities like the privatepool, lounge deck, bocce field, and conference room.

The level above the garage holds two independentaccommodation units - one suite and one bedroom with abath. Both share a large stone terrace overlooking the historicUniversity of Dubrovnik. Allowing for extra privacy, this area issimply ideal for support staff or members of the group lookingto have some time alone.Ascending to the master house level, the promenade in frontof the house is shaded by vines and a lush bougainvillea tree.This positively adds a touch of liveliness to the otherwiseserene atmosphere. The promenade runs between the saunaon its right end and another independent suite on the left end,featuring shade, seclusion and an intimate atmosphere.

Below the suite, take advantage of a fully equippedprofessional kitchen and open grill area providing catering forsmaller events at Villa 2 or perhaps something moreelaborate, such as a la carte private dining events.To the left of the main house, the historic cistern, carved in liverock, was redesigned as a minimalist interior space. With asimple table, this area provides the ultimate cool-down spot,perfect during those hot Dubrovnik summers. Moments spenthere, whether just chatting or tasting wines, will certainlyremain unique memories.Several smaller terraces surround the house on the upper side,featuring lounge chairs and tables. Absorb so many relaxingmoments on the backdrop of meditative vistas of Villa’sgardens, elegant cypresses with the Adriatic in the distance.The master house represents a classic town residence fromthe 19th century, comprising of three floors and 4 doublebedrooms. Restored with the utmost respect for its past, theinterior retains not only certain original details, but also thehistoric spatial disposition typical of Dubrovnik homes. Thedécor remains simple, occasionally even minimalist, leaving itup to each guest to add personal touches, making it feel evenmore like home.Entering from the front promenade, immediately under thebougainvillea shade, the ground floor level is an open areahosting common spaces. To the left, a custom designed andfully equipped home kitchen is highlighted by the central, largedining table. To the right, the living room with a fireplace andTV contrasts blue shades of its Norwegian style furniture with aneat, bright white backdrop.The high ceilings, clean-line design and the open space conceptof the entire floor form a relaxed, familial atmosphere, superbfor an afternoon siesta, or a coffee and chat anytime.

Pass the historic, double doors, the central stone staircasewith decorated ceilings takes you up to the first floor level.The central area of this floor is a common hallway – almostlike a petite salon - with four doors, leading to twobedrooms and their adjacent bathrooms.

The bedrooms have a mirror layout, and both featurebeautifully restored 19th century ceiling paintings withfloral motifs and lush views of the Villa’s gardens. Theirincredibly spacious bathrooms with double lavatories, onewith a bath, and the other with a walk-in shower, sport aminimalist style and a white theme. With everythingunnecessary excluded, these rooms resonate a relaxedatmosphere.

Leading up to the second floor, the historic woodenstaircase diverts half-way. This exits onto a small bridgeleading to the terraces above the master house - much likea secret private entrance from the upper side of the Villa.The second floor layout is very similar to the first, with acentral, wood-lined reading area, and two doublebedrooms on each side, both with a walk-in showerbathroom. Many agree, the roof-sloped ceilings andexposed wooden beams shape a touch of romance to thisfloor.

While the room facing the west overlooks the gardens, theroom facing the east enjoys mesmerizing panoramas ofDubrovnik’s Old Town.
