It answers a number of questions such as the easiest way to walk to the nearest beach, which beach is the best to go to by car, some good places to get groceries and where to buy medicine. We also provide some tips and information on towns in the area and other points of interest.

Walking route to the beach .

Walk to the beach

The nearest beach, Praia Maria Luísa, is a 700 m walk away. The map on the previous page shows you where you need to go. As you leave Balaia Golf Village through the main exit, cross the main road and turn left. When you reach the petrol station after about 100 m, follow the arrow to Club Med by turning right on to Rua Da Praia Maria Luísa. When you reach the Club Med barrier, turn left. Walk past the small car park and under the small bridge. Follow this path down to the ocean and the beach is yours!

Drive to the beach

If you want to go to the beach by car, the best option is Praia de Santa Eulália about 2 km away. There is a car park right by the beach, so you will not have to walk far. The map on the left shows you the way. As you leave Balaia Golf Village, turn right on to the main road. After about 1 km, you will see the following signs to Santa Eulália beach: Turn left here and follow the road until you reach the beach car park. You can enjoy the beautiful beach or take a walk near the grounds of Le Club Restaurant & Bar.

Grocery shopping The map below shows 4 supermarkets in the area. The on-site Balaia Golf Village mini-supermarket is located on the main road about 100 m away from the villa. The resort map next to page 1 shows you the exact location of the supermarket (number 5). Intermarché supermarket is on the main road to Olhos d’Agua about 1.5 km away. As you leave the Balaia Golf Village main entrance, turn left and drive for about 1.5 km. There you will see the supermarket on your left. You can find the Ecomarché and Santa Eulália supermarkets on Estrada de Santa Eulália in Albufeira about 2 km away. Pharmacy The closest chemist (farmácia) is on the main road to Olhos d’Agua. Turn left on to the main road as you leave Balaia Golf Village and continue for about 1.5 km. You will see the pharmacy on your right hand side.

Olhos d’Agua Olhos d’Agua is a popular fishing village close to Balaia Golf Village. Most of the activity in Olhos d’Agua is on the main street running downhill towards the beach and the promenade by the beach that is fringed by palm trees. Here you will find a fair selection of bars and restaurants. To get to Olhos d’Agua, turn left on to the main road as you leave Balaia Golf Village and drive for 2 km. After you see the pharmacy on your right, turn right on to Rua 25 de Abril, following the arrows below.

You can leave the car on the car park and walk down to the beach and promenade.

Albufeira

People tend to visit two main areas of Albufeira: 'The Strip', a nightlife area with clubs and bars, and the more relaxed Old Town with the traditional white Arabic architecture.

- The Strip

You can walk, drive, take a taxi or catch a bus to Albufeira.

To walk to the Strip, turn right on to the main road as you leave Balaia Golf Village. After about 2 km, you see a large Chinese restaurant on your left as you approach a roundabout. Keep following the same road until you reach all the bars and restaurants on Avenida Sá Carneiro, the real name of the Strip.

In the evening The Strip is very lively. The bars at the top end of the Strip are more family orientated and also enjoy a varied mixture of clientele. The lower part is very popular with the younger generation.

- The Old Town

The best way to visit Fisherman’s Beach at the Old Town, is to take a taxi or drive to the Albufeira Town Hall according to the map on page 10. You can park your car there and walk down Rua das Telecomunicações. The outdoor escalators will take you down to Praia dos Pescadores, Fisherman’s Beach, in the Old Town with its lovely promenade and many restaurants.

Some other points of interest Parque Aventura, Estrada de Santa Eulalia, Albufeira (1 km) Parque Aventura is located just one kilometre down the main road towards Alburfeira. It is a treetop adventure park for kids (and adults) of all ages located on the main road less than 1 km from Balaia Golf Village. You move from tree to tree in a series of games and varied height trails using rope ladders, zip lines and more. A team of qualified staff introduce you to the route and provide assistance. Falesia Beach, main road just past Olhos d'Agua, Praia da Falesia (5 km) Beautiful long sandy beach with amazing cliff formations and interesting sub-tropical plants. The beach is completely unspoiled without a promenade, so the elderly or infirm may find the steps a bit difficult. Peaceful, fantastic views. A great spot to watch the sunset. Aquashow Water & Theme Park, EN 396, Quarteira (17 km) Aquashow amusement park has slides, pools, waves, exotic birds and a 23.5 metre high water roller coaster! Zoomarine, EN 125, Guia (18 km) Zoomarine has great seal and dolphin shows and a lovely walk-through area with birds. The aquarium is an unexpected treat and the wet and dry fairground rides are suitable for small kids. You can even swim with the dolphins! Alvor Boardwalk, Portimão, Portugal (46 km)

This lovely boardwalk runs along Alvor's sandy beach through the dunes and along the river, all easy walking.
