Vikings Host Eastern Michigan on Thursday Cleveland State returns to action on Thursday (Dec. 1) night when the Vikings host Eastern Michigan at 7:00 p.m. in Woodling Gym. It will be the second of three straight home dual meets for the Vikings. CSU won its home opener, knocking off crosstown foe John Car-roll, 29-9, on Tuesday (Nov. 22). CSU recorded a pair of falls with both Ben Willeford (125) and Lawrence Cavello (149) earning second period pins. Major decisions from Nick Flannery (133) and Chris Weber (285) helped the cause as the Vikings improved to 2-2 overall.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL The Vikings will continue their three-game homestand this week when CSU hosts Akron at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30. CSU en-ters the week with a 2-3 record after falling to Cornell (79-59) on Sunday (Nov. 27). The Vikings earned a thrilling 72-66 over-time victory at Western Michigan on Friday (Nov. 25). Over the two contests the Vikings were led by Shalonda Winton and Destinee Blue, who each tallied 30 points along with 20 rebounds for Win-ton and 16 for Blue. Blue notched a career-high 26 points against Cornell, while Winton posted her 500th career rebound at WMU, leading the Vikings with 13 boards.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING After the Thanksgiving break, CSU is back in action with two meets this week. The Vikings host the Cleveland City Dual with John Carroll, Notre Dame (OH) and Canisius on Tuesday (Nov. 29) at 3:00 p.m. and then head to the AT&T Win-ter National Championships at Georgia Tech from Thursday through Saturday (Dec. 1-3). CSU was last in action at the TYR Invita-tional two weeks ago, placing fifth in the deep field. Alice Sommerville won the 50 breast as well as the 50 and 100 fly in addition to three other top-four individual finishes. Joanna Olsson won the 200 IM, placed second in the 400 IM and was third in the 200 fly, setting four school records.
MEN’S BASKETBALL Cleveland State opens Horizon League play this week when the Vikings play at Wright State on Thursday (Dec. 1) at 7:00 p.m. and at Detroit at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 3). The Vikings are off to their second best start in school history at 6-1 this year after winning three of four games last week, including a 57-53 win at Kent State. CSU then won two of three games in Rhode Island over the weekend to claim the Kingston, R.I., Sub-Regional title of the Tick-et City Legends Classic. Aaron Pogue was named the MVP of the event after scoring a career-high 20 points versus Rhode Island. D’Aundray Brown joined Pogue on the all-tournament team.

AAron Pogue
Pogue helped the Vikings to a 3-1 mark last week, averaging 10.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. He also shot .516 (16-31) from the field and hit his first career three-pointer. Pogue was named the MVP of the Ticket City Legends Sub-Regional in Kingston, R.I., over the weekend, capping the event with a career-high 20 points in a win over Rhode Island.
