Major events organized by NSS in the year 2014- 2015 1. Workshop on HIV/AIDS prevention (12-05-2014) A one day workshop on HIV-AIDS prevention and a poster exhibition was organized by the NSS unit of GJUS&T, Hisar. 300 NSS volunteers attended the workshop and 100 volunteers submitted their posters for poster exhibition. Dr. M.L.Ranga, Vice chancellor, GJUS&T, Hisar was the chief guest of the function and Prof. R.S.Jaglan was honored as the guest of honor. Ms. Ujita Kundu, Joint Director, HSACS was the keynote speaker of the workshop. In the workshop Dr. M.L.Ranga said that organizing discussion session, seminars and workshops is the best method to aware the people. Prof. Jaglan appreciated the efforts of volunteers and said that this workshop will surely enlighten the society. Prof. Sandeep Rana, NSS coordinator said that everyone should be unite to fight against HIV-AIDS. Together we can prevent this to a great extent. Ms. Ujita Kundu delivered a lecture and showed a very informative documentary to the volunteers. The documentary covered truths and myths related with HIV-AIDS. The workshop proved very meaningful to the volunteers. In Poster exhibition Rakesh Kumar from HSB got the 1 st position, Shivani from ECE got 2 nd , Komal from ME got 3 rd and Rohit from Ptg. Tech. got the consolation prize.

Major events organized by NSS in the year 2014-2015

2. Prerna-2014 (13-05-2014)

National Service Scheme of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar organized a program “PRERNA-2013” for providing NSS merit certificates to volunteers. Dr. M.L. Ranga Vice Chancellor, Chief Guest of the occasion said that NSS helps in spreading awareness for community building. Volunteers played a very important role in the prevention of HIV/AIDS and drug abuse etc. On this occasion, Dr. Sandeep Rana, Program coordinator, NSS also appreciated NSS activities and said that NSS provides a platform for personality development for students. Merit certificates have been given to 56 NSS volunteers as appraisal of their work. Anju Dhaks was the best NSS volunteer in the female category & Nishant Sharma got the best volunteer certificate in the male category. Prof. MS Turan, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Kuldeep Bansal, Dean Students Welfare, Dr. Anil and Dr. Ashwani, Program officers were also present on this occasion

3. Mera vote mera desh (05-09-2014 to -18-09-2014)

To make the youth aware about the democratic institutions and rights NSS organized the

campaign “Mera Vote, Mera Desh”with the specific purpose to help the students for making

their voter ID cards and provide all the necessary information to fill the forms (form-6).

During this campaign around 1000 cards were issued to the students of the university. The

program was helpful to spread the awareness among the youth about the importance of

voting, NSS volunteers also organized cultural events, skits and seminars.

4. NSS day celebration (24-09-2014)

NSS day was celebrated by the volunteers on 24-09-2014. On this occasion volunteers

performed various patriotic and theme based cultural activities. On this occasion Prof.

S.C.Kundu highlights the importance of community activities in societal growth. He

emphasized that conscious efforts and hard work is the key to success. Prof. Sandeep Rana,

NSS coordinator of the university emphasized that NSS helps in overall personality

development of students. NSS activities link the education to society and develop the positive

attitude for problem solutions.

5. National unity day(31-10-2014)

The National unity day was organized in the university by National Service Scheme of

GuruJambheshwar University of Science & Technology on the auspicious occasion of 139 th birth

century of Bharat rattan Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on 31-10-2014. More than 400 NSS volunteers,

university students, members of supporting staff, and faculty members of the university

participated in the program. On this occasion numbers of activities were organized like pledge of

unity, seminar, and documentary on the life history of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Addressing the

seminar Prof. R. S. Jaglan, registrar of the university, Dr. Mahender , a professor of history, Prof.

N.K. Bishnoi, a professor of economics, and Prof. Sandeep Rana, NSS coordinator of the

university highlighted the contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in the unity of India. It was

emphasized that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was a true freedom fighter and one of the most important

pillars during the freedom movement. He played a key role in the non-cooperation and quit India

movements. Often known as the iron-man of India he persuaded more than five hundred

princely states to become part of India after India became independent. As a true follower of

Gandhi ji he was instrumental in making freedom movement a mass movement. He used the

strategies of fair and frank diplomacy, backed with the option of military use in assimilating the

princely states with India. . He created the feeling of nationhood. The relevance of Sardar

Vallabhbhai Patel ideology in present scenario was also discussed. It was discussed that cultural

tolerance, participation of all sections in decision making, technological and economic

development, strong leadership and clear national vision are helpful in maintaining the unity in

diversity. Unity is not only important but essential for growth. The feeling of one nation is

having paramount importance for success and growth of a country. The documentary on the life

history of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel covered the all facets of his life and sensitized the youth

towards the contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel during the freedom movement of India and

making the country one nation.

6. Swachh Haryana –Swachh Bharat Swachh Haryana (01-11-2014)

The cleanliness drive was organized by the National Service Scheme of the university on

the occasion of Haryana day on November 1, 2014 under the mission Swachh Haryana- Swachh

Bharat Abhiyan. The registrar of the university along with dean academic affairs, dean students’

welfare, proctor, chief warden, program coordinator, NSS, members of teaching and non-

teaching staff, and NSS volunteers initiated the drive for cleanliness. The students and staff of

the university worked as a team on this occasion and participated in the Swachh Haryana-

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. More than 400 NSS volunteers participated in the program along with

officials of the university. A message of learning by doing was evident on this occasion. It was

highlighted that the participation of all members of society can only make the cleanliness drive

successful. This type of program not only sensitized the youth towards cleanliness but also

inculcate the feeling of empathy and self-dependence. The cleanliness drive is a mission and

important for health, hygiene and building the image of India. The message is clear we must

respect the dignity of labor. The involvement in cleanliness activities also empowers the thoughts

for humility and independence. It creates we feeling and self-extension. It also make a daunt on

feudal mindset. The program was a big success and university is trying to make it sustainable

under the guidance of Hon’ble vice chancellor.

7. Smarthan

The volunteers of national service scheme of GuruJambheshwar University of Science &

Technology launched a drive “ Smarthan” to help the flood affected people in Jammu &

Kashmir. A bank draft of Rs. 53,500 for chief minister relief fund, Haryana has been submitted

to the NSS coordinator. The volunteers collected the donation of Rs. 53, 500 (Fifty three

thousand and five hundred) from the students, teachers and non-teaching staff of the university

voluntarily. Appreciating the efforts of NSS volunteers Prof. Sandeep Rana, NSS coordinator of

the university said that this is not only financial assistance but a symbol of solidarity for those

who are in pain. The programs like ““Smarthan” strengthen the values of empathy, participation,

and we feeling. The small positive efforts of young people can be helpful in resolving the big

crisis. These efforts sensitize the youth towards national issues. It helps in self-extension. It

develops the community attitude for the solution of problem. It gives the message that the

whole country is like a human body if one part is in pain it will affect the other parts also.

Ultimately it strengthens the human concerns and develops the positive attitude. On this

occasion NSS program officer Dr. Suman Dahiya, Dr. Ashwani, Dr. Anil Bhankur and Preeti

Prabhakar were present along with NSS volunteers.
