Describing family:

Use the language you learned in pysical description and character description   but keep the following in mind:

1. when describing each family member, remember to change the verbs to the lui/lei form.

eg. Mio fratello si chiama Robert e ha sedici anni. Eg. Mio padre legge molto e ogni tanto gioca a calcio (My father reads a lot and every now and then he plays soccer)

2. remember to change the last letter of adjectives to ...a for girls and ...o for boys (unless they are adjectives that end in ...e, which don't change for gender).(Ps: you can review adjective endings by watching the video in the nationalities section of our greetings & introductions unit).

Eg. Mia madre e` simpatica ma mio padre e` severo.

3. remember to enrich your sentences with adjectives such as "molto, abbastanza, un po', -issimo" and expressions such as "e` una persona...", "molti lo/la considerano"

Expressing what they do in their free time:

You can use the language from our free time unit.However, keep the following in mind:

1. when expressing what they like doing, avoid the verb PIACERE. Use adora/ama and odia/detesta instead, as they are a lot easier to use.

Eg. Mia sorella adora leggere libri e ascoltare la musica (my sister adores reading books and listening to music)

2. Remember to enrich your sentences with adverbs of frequency for free time (eg. ogni tanto, sempre, spesso) and additional information (where, when, with who, why, for how long)

Expressing their profession:

To say what your parents do for a living, say:

  Fa + definite article +  profession.  Eg. "Mio padre fa il dottore e mia madre fa la commercialista" (my father is a doctor and my mother is an accountant)

To say that your brother or sister goes to school, say "frequenta la scuola".

To specify what year they are in, say:

Fa + la + YEAR + elementare/media/liceo  (primary/middle school/high school) eg. Fa la seconda liceo (he/she is in year 9).

To answer the question “Hai un animale domestico?”, start by stating what animal it is, its name and age

To describe fur, do NOT use “capelli”. Instead, say…

Ha il pelo + color + colour Eg. Ha il pelo color bianco (He has white fur) Eg. Ha il pelo color nero (He has black fur)

To describe all other characteristics of the animal, adapt the language you learned in pysical description and character description:
