THE BEGINNING OF THE WORSHIP SERVICE

HYMN - (Voices United # 582) THERE’S A SPIRIT IN THE AIR

There's a spirit in the air, telling Christians everywhere:'Praise the love that Christ revealed, living, working, in our world!'

Lose your shyness, find your tongue, tell the world what God has done:God in Christ has come to stay.Live tomorrow's life today!

When believers break the bread, when a hungry child is fed, praise the love that Christ revealed, living, working, in our world.

Still the Spirit gives us light, seeing wrong and setting right:God in Christ has come to stay.Live tomorrow's life today!

When a stranger's not alone, where the homeless find a home, praise the love that Christ revealed, living, working, in our world.

May the Spirit fill our praise, guide our thoughts and change our waysGod in Christ has come to stay.Live tomorrow's life today!

There's a Spirit in the air, calling people everywhere:praise the love that Christ revealed, living, working, in our world.

The Worship leader will spend a moment guiding and explaining the Service to the Congregation. Then shall announce the HYMN

As the HYMN begins the following people shall enter in this order:

President of Conference,

Executive Secretary,

General Council Representative,

Conference Minister – Maine Conference UCC, or rep.

Eternal God - Source, Christ and Spirit, May the life giving stream of the Holy Spirit’s presence, flow through our Worship, awakening the Church to become the living Presence of Christ, in this world, that we may direct all people to the One from whom we come and to whom we go.

Eternal God – Revelation of Mystery, Realization of Majesty and Restoration of Mythos,You are the Song Book in which we find all music,You are the Notes with which we grasp the tune,You are the Melody by which we are taught the dance.

Eternal God - forgiving, reconciling and transforming, continue to help us proclaim our faith.

We are not alone. We live in God’s world. We believe in God:

Who has created and is creating, Who has come in Jesus, the Word made Flesh,

to reconcile and make new;Who works in us and others by the Spirit.

We trust in God.We are called to be the Church; To celebrate God’s Presence, To live with respect in Creation, To love and serve others, To seek justice and resist evil,To proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope.In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God.

Refrain: God, You have searched me, You know me through and through.

O God, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and rise up, You discern my thoughts from afar. You discern my path and the places where I rest, You are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue, You know it, O God, completely. You guard me from behind and before, You lay your hand upon me.Your knowledge of me is beyond my understanding; it is a mystery, I cannot fathom it.

Refrain: God, You have searched me, You know me through and through.

Where can I escape from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your Presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there. If I lie down in the grave, You are there. If I take wing with the morning and fly to the sea’s furthest limits,There, also, your hand will guide me and your powerful hand hold me securely. If I were to say, “Let the darkness cover me and my day be turned into night,”Even darkness is not dark to You. The night is as bright as the day. Darkness is as light to You.

Refrain: God, You have searched me, You know me through and through.

It was You who formed my inward parts. You knitted me together in my mother`s womb.I praise You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wondrous are your works; that I know very well.My frame was not hidden from You when I was being fashioned in secret, intricately woven in the mystery of clay. Your eyes saw my substance taking shape. In your Book, my every day was recorded; all my days were fashioned, even before they came to be.

Refrain: God, You have searched me, You know me through and through.

How deep are your designs, O God. How great is the number of them! When I try to count them but they are more numerous than the grains of sand at the sea shore. I come to the end – I am still with You. Search me, O God, and know my heart.Test me and know my thoughts.Watch closely, lest I follow a path of error. And guide me in the way everlasting.

Refrain: God, You have searched me, You know me through and through.

SACRAMENT OF COMMUNIONINVITATIONJesus was always the guest at the tables of his friends but here, at this Table, Christ is the host and we are the friends. There are no barriers. All are welcome. Let us give thanks to the LORD, our God!

We remember, with joy, the multitude of your people who gather with us around this Table. With Abraham and Sarah, who listened and followed, With Moses who sounded the note of freedom, with Miriam who taught the people to dance, with the Prophets who preached your deliverance, and with the multitude who sought you throughout time,We give You thanks, O God.

We remember, with thanksgiving, the multitude of your people who gather with us around this Table. With the woman at the well who challenged Jesus, With the Centurion who pleaded for his daughter’s life,With Mary and Martha and Lazarus who shared their home with Jesus. With Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and those who recorded the Good News of Jesus. With the Apostles who wrote letters to the Churches and offered them guidance. And with the multitude who sought You throughout time, we give You thanks, O God.

We remember, with Prayer, the multitude of your people who gather with us around this Table. With Jordan, our Moderator and all who serve the Church throughout the world,With the faithful who are in worship with us at this moment around this Conference,With the many who have joined the closer harmonies of heaven and who sit by our side in worship, and with the multitude who sought You throughout time, we give You thanks, O God.

Chiefly, we give You thanks for our Lord Jesus Christ, the Messenger of your Will, the Child of your Imagination and the Incarnation of your Love and who is the Host at this Table.Christ healed the sick, fed the hungry, sought out the lost, ate with sinners, walked with the marginalized and proclaimed the Good News of your Reign. Christ now calls us to do the same. With the multitude who sought You throughout time,

President

with the multitudes who served you throughout time and with the many who await you in this time, we give you thanks, O God.

Remembering the stories of salvation throughout time, the unfolding drama of redemption recorded in time and the mysterious love of God that surrounds us at all times, we join our voices in the unending hymn of praise:

SANCTUS AND BENEDICTUS (sung More Voices # 203 – Kingsfold) O Holy, Holy, Holy God, O God of time and space. All earth and sea and sky aboveBear witness to your grace! Hosanna in the highest heav’n,Creation sings your praise. And blessed is the One who comesAnd bears your Name always!

On the night before he died, the disciples, the chosen family of Jesus, gathered with him at Table. There, in the midst of uncertainty and fear, Jesus took bread, and when He had given God thanks and praise, as we give God thanks and praise, Jesus broke the bread, gave it to his disciples and said,

“This is my body that is broken for you. Eat this in remembrance of me.”Lord Jesus, enter into the brokenness of your people and become one with all who offer their brokenness to you.

Taking a cup, again Jesus gave God thanks and praise, then he shared the cup with all his disciples and said,

“This is the cup of a new covenant. It is offered for you and for many as a sign of a new beginning. Drink this in remembrance of me.” Lord Jesus, offer to each of us a new beginning, forgive what is past and lead us into the future. Turn us toward you as we proclaim our faith.

MEMORIAL ACCLAMATION (Kingsfold singing # 204 in More Voices) Sing Christ has died and Christ is risen, Christ will come again! Sing Christ has died and Christ is risen, Christ will come again!

The Sanctus and Benedictus will proceed unannounced.

Merciful God, Energy of the universe, Icon into spirituality, and Coincidences that raise our minds to wonder, send your Spirit upon these elements of communion. Set them aside for your glory. May they be outward and visible signs of inward and invisible grace.

Let that same Spirit enter into us, converting us from the patterns of this passing world and conforming us to the shape of Christ.

Remember your Church scattered over the face of the earth, gather us in unity that we may have communion with them and be equipped for mission.

Remember all who cry out to You for justice. Free your children from behind bars of steel or public opinion that we may have communion with them in your liberty.

Remember your earth from whom we receive our elements of communion. That we may have communion with the universe

and live with respect in creation.

We are your friends, all of whom You welcome to this table. There are no barriers. We are every gender, every sexuality, every age, every colour, every language – we are yours, made in your Image and fashioned for ministry.

As Jesus taught us, God is like a Mother who shelters us under the shadow of her wings and God is like a Father so we are bold now to pray

OUR FATHER…. NOTRE PERE…. AR N-ATHAIR.… ONZE VADER … VATER UNSER… PADRE NEUSTRO…

We continue to proclaim the truth as we sing!

(Kingsfold # 205 in More Voices). Amen! Amen, O Holy One! Hosanna and Amen! Amen! Amen, O Holy One! Hosanna and Amen!

SONG FOR PEACEGentle lady, gentle man,May I speak that you might understand.I've been thinking we've been rather blind.Let us leave every difference behind.

Cast your nets on these waters, your lines on the sea,Your sights on horizons wherever you please,For together we'll weather the tide that prevails,With the sun on our shoulders, the wind in our sails.

Those who suffer, those who cry,Call for brothers and friends, by and by,For 'tis certain united we stand,Side by side, arm in arm, hand in hand.

Cast your nets on these waters, your lines on the sea,Your sights on horizons wherever you please,For together we'll weather the tide that prevails,With the sun on our shoulders, the wind in our sails. Little children know the way. They spend life, dream by dream, day by day,And by nature, they seem to implyWe must love, and never ask why. Cast your nets on these waters, your lines on the sea,Your sights on horizons wherever you please,For together we'll weather the tide that prevails,With the sun on our shoulders, the wind in our sails.

Cast your nets on these waters, your lines on the sea,Your sights on horizons wherever you please,For together we'll weather the tide that prevails,With the sun on our shoulders, the wind in our sails.
