Viewing the Contents of a SAS Data SetBackground
To view the contents of a SAS data set, you must have already assigned aLIBNAME to the directory (folder) that contains the SAS data set. (See the SAS noteAssigning Libnames in SAS for directions for this). Once the LIBNAME has beenassigned, follow the steps below.
1) Open the Explorer window. In any SAS window, select View from the menubar, and then select Explorer from the pull-down menu:

2) Select Libraries from the list in the Explorer window. To do this, justdouble click on the Libraries icon.

3) Select the desired library. A list of the SAS libraries will appear, each onebeing denoted by its LIBNAME (i.e., the nickname that you assigned to the directory orfolder). Select the desired library by double clicking on its icon. In the exam givenbelow, the SAS library with the nickname rmlib is selected.

4) Select the data set. After the library has been selected, a list of SAS data setswithin that library will appear in the Explorer window. Select the data set by doubleclicking on its icon. In the example given below, data set Learning_curve has beenselected.

The contents of the data set will appear in what SAS terms a Viewtable.
