TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT?

If one of your goals is weight loss, we highly recommend

that you follow the diet recommendations contained

in this guide for 2-3 days before starting PURIFY. We also recommend that you engage in 30 minutes of

moderate exercise each day during the 2-3 days leading

up to the start of your cleanse. Moderate exercise could include jogging, brisk

walking, hiking, biking, or swimming.

getting startedExcited to start your PURIFY cleanse? We hope so! To get your PURIFY experience started off on the right foot, our SAB wanted to pass along some information and advice that you can use prior to starting your cleanse!

PREPARING FOR YOUR PURIFY CLEANSE Taking 1 – 2 days to prepare for your cleanse may help you maximize the results you get from PURIFY and make the program more enjoyable . These “preparation days” are certainly not necessary, but they may help you ease your way into the cleanse if you have any unhealthy habits — for example, if you regularly consume (or have consumed within the last month) a lot of sugar, white flour, caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, or other unhealthy substances.

> DIET RECOMMENDATIONSOne to two days before the cleanse, start to reduce your consumption of the following food items:

• Processed foods (includes pre-packaged foods such as breads, cereals, cakes, cookies, crackers, candies, etc.)

• Fast food and fried foods

• Foods which contain sugar and white flour

• Red meat

• Artificial sweeteners such as Equal®, Sweet n’ Low®, and Splenda®

• Caffeine (coffee, caffeinated tea, chocolate)

• Alcoholic beverages

• Nicotine

In addition, start to increase your consumption of the following items:

> SLEEP RECOMMENDATIONSDuring these transition days, start going to bed at the same time each night and waking up at the same time each day . Try to get at least 7 hours of sleep each night . Foods that are frozen, canned, and refined have almost no nutritive value, and are usually processed with artificial colors, flavorings, additives, preservatives, excess salt, chemical pesticides, and genetically altered ingredients . These foods are lacking vital life energy, and contribute to a wide array of imbalances and illnesses .

nutritious snacking options

A NOTE ON SNACKINGMany people have been raised with the misconception that snacking is not good for you . However, snacking helps you deliver essential nutrients to the body, regulate blood sugar levels, and avoid extreme states of hunger that lead to unhealthy practices such as binging and overeating .

When you first begin the PURIFY program, you may find that a smaller, healthier meal doesn’t tide you over until the next meal . This is because your body is used to functioning off of more food, and your stomach and digestive system must transition to feeling less full . As a result, we highly recommend sensible snacking for people during the program . The key is to choose easy-to-digest foods that give the body energy and a feeling of being satiated . This may include snacks such as fresh fruits, vegetables, dried fruits, unsalted nuts, seeds, and yogurt . In general, it’s best to choose snacks that contain less than 200 calories .

The following chart should be used as a simple guide to help you make better food choices. Before you eat that, consider these great options:

suggested mind-body practicesMind-body practices such as breathing, meditation, and yoga are designed to connect the energy of the mind and body . There are numerous and profound benefits to doing these types of mind-body practices on a regular basis . For example, they increase positive emotions and boost immunity . In addition, mind-body practices improve sleep quality, awaken and invigorate the body, and help reduce anxiety, stress, and muscle tension .

BASIC MIND-BODY PRACTICESIf you do not have time in the morning, do these in the evening before dinner .

> GENTLE STRETCHING EXERCISES OR YOGA POSTURES (3 minutes) See “Yoga for Every Body” section on the following page

> STRESS-RELIEVING BREATHING (1–2 minutes) Begin by sitting on the front edge of a chair with your spine straight and feet flat on the floor . Keep your upper chest, neck and shoulder muscles as relaxed as possible .

a) Placing one hand on your abdomen, take a slow, deep breath through your nostrils . As you inhale, you should naturally feel your stomach and lower rib cage expand outwards .

b) Then, exhale slowly through your mouth, feeling your ribs and stomach pull gently inward .

Repeat this exercise for a round of ten breaths, then slowly build your practice up to five minutes a day .

> FREE YOUR MIND: COUNT YOUR BREATHS (3–5 minutes) Sit on the front edge of a chair with your spine straight and both feet flat on the floor . Begin by taking a few deep breaths, while exhaling slowly through your nose . Then begin counting each inhalation and exhalation until you reach ten . That means counting “one” after the first inhalation and “two” after the first exhalation . When you reach ten, begin with “one” again on the next inhalation . After becoming comfortable with this practice, you can begin counting only the exhalations .

Repeat this exercise for a round of ten breaths, then slowly build your practice up to five minutes a day .

YOGA FOR EVERY BODYYoga is a great form of exercise for everyone, and there are many different types and styles of Yoga from which to choose . If you have a serious injury or illness that you are working with, talk to your physician before beginning any yoga or exercise program .

Unsure of where to start? We recommend looking for a local class at studios near you, or you could go online to find a style that suits you . There are also many great yoga DVDs, podcasts, and videos available; we recommend searching for classes on yogajournal.com or yogavibes.com .

If Yoga is not something that speaks to you, we still recommend incorporating some basic stretching exercises into your morning routine . Stretching is important for improving flexibility and for keeping the tissues of the body supple .

> WARRIOR II (hold for 30 seconds on each side) This pose strengthens your legs, arms, and back—and helps you feel strong and powerful!

> TREE POSE (hold for 30 seconds on each side) This is a simple and yet powerful balance posture . Balance postures teach us focus, patience, acceptance, and courage .

> BRIDGE POSE (hold for 30 seconds; repeat 2 times) Bridge pose is a gentle backbend and is great for keeping your spine healthy! Make sure not to move your neck when in the pose .

> SEATED FORWARD FOLD (hold for 1 minute, then release) This is an excellent pose to stretch your hamstrings and lower back . It also has a calming effect on the mind .

tips for restful sleepYou already know how amazing a great night’s sleep can feel . But did you know that sleep is also one of the most important predictors of good health? Poor sleep can lead to weight gain, accelerate the aging process, contribute to cardiovascular disease, and impair mental clarity .

For this reason, it is essential to get regular, good-quality sleep during your cleanse and beyond . A good night’s sleep is restorative in the best possible way: it gives your body time to repair itself, and allows your mind time to rest and rejuvenate . Restful sleep also improves energy and reduces cravings for unhealthy, short-tem energy fixes like caffeine and sugar . Plus, great sleep can help bring your body into a state of balance and keep you happy, healthy and lean in the long-term!

Lucky for you, we’ve compiled some advice to help you get a great night’s rest—night after night—during your PURIFY program and beyond! Read on for more information:

• Schedule at least 7-8 hours of rest each night .

• Go to bed and wake up at the same time each day . Getting your body into a routine helps you sleep better and function at your best!

• Honor your body’s need to nap or rest if necessary .

• Make sure that your room is dark and quiet when you go to bed .

• Try using a fan or noise machine; white noise can block out the world and lull you into a deep slumber .

• Turn off the TV and computer at least 1 hour before bed: the light from these screens interferes with your brain’s ability to fully rest .

• Make sure that your bed is comfortable; invest in good-quality pillows and sheets .

• Get into a routine before bed, and repeat that routine every night . For example, sip a cup of non-caffeinated tea and read a good book for 15 minutes before turning out the lights .

• If you have trouble falling asleep, get out of bed and do something calming (read a book, meditate, take a bath, etc .) for 15 minutes . Then return to bed and try falling asleep again . Resist the urge to stay and bed and toss and turn! Training your body to recognize bed as a place where you rest is one of the best ways to ensure a good night’s sleep .

and vegetables and lean proteins . Keep your consumption of processed foods, alcohol, and caffeine to a minimum . If consuming treats and other potentially weight-increasing foods, just remember to eat in moderation .

> CONTINUE EXERCISING at least 3 days a week, for 20 minutes or more per day .

Ideally, you should do so upon waking and at night before going to sleep but pick a time and practice that works best for you .

Are there any side effects?Some people experience mild side effects while cleansing . These side effects, in moderation, are signs that your body is expelling toxins and the cleansing process is working . Symptoms should be mild and persist for no longer than 1-3 days . Some possible symptoms are fatigue, headache, irritability, weakness, nausea, diarrhea or constipation . We recommend drinking plenty of water each day, which helps your body flush out these toxins . Can I continue to take my regular medications while on Zrii PURIFY?Unless otherwise instructed by your health care provider, continue to take medications or supplements which you are regularly using, in the manner prescribed to you by your medical doctor or other health care professional . Before discontinuing medications, as always, consult with your qualified health care provider first .

Who should not cleanse?Do not participate in any cleanse program if you are pregnant or nursing . The Zrii PURIFY System is not recommended for children under the age of 16 .
