Vietnamese CultureThe Vietnamese Culture is one of the oldest in

Southeast Asia, with the Ancient Bronze Age Dong Son Culture being widely considered one of its most important progenitors.

Due to 1000 years of Chinese rule, Vietnam was heavily influenced by Chinese Culture in terms of politics.

Vietnamese ArtTraditional Vietnamese Art is art practiced in

Vietnam or by Vietnamese Artists, from ancient times (including the elaborate Dong Son drums) to Post-Chinese domination art was strongly influenced by Chinese Buddhist art.

The Chinese influence on Vietnamese art extends into Vietnamese pottery and ceramics, calligraphy, and traditional architecture.

Trần Văn Cẩn-1910-1994Tran Van Can designed one of the first political posters, entitled “Vietnam for the Vietnamese” and the majority of his drawings and sketches from that time are of rural village life or on the battlefield.

Trần Văn Cẩn was a Vietnamese painter. Trần Văn Cẩn was a student at the École des Beaux-Arts d'Indochine during the tenure of the French sculptor Évariste Jonchère from 1938 to 1944 and challenged his teacher to compare his French style with local sculpture for vigour.

Nguyễn Phan Chánh-1892-1984Nguyen Phan Chanh (July 21, 1892 - November 22,

1984) was born in a rural Vietnamese village, in Ha Tinh province. His early education was in Chinese (as was common in pre-colonial times), and he studied Chinese calligraphy so as to pass the qualifying exams for the title of Mandarin. However, the exams were abolished before he was old enough to sit them. With his first ambition thwarted, it was decided that he should continue studying painting at the l’Ecole des Beaux-arts d’Indochine in Hanoi.

Lê Phổ-1907-2001Lê Phổ (2 August 1907 - 12 December 2001) was

a Vietnamese painter. In 1932, he earned a scholarship to study at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Upon returning to Vietnam he taught at the École Supérieure des Beaux Arts de l'Indochine in Hanoi. He painted scenery of Vietnam, still life with flowers, family settings and portraits.
