How to Play Victor’s Piano Solo By Kent Smith http://pianodrumteacher.com How To Use This Book This book will teach you how to play Victor’s Piano Solo, from the movie Corpse Bride (music by Danny Elfman). You do not need to know how to read music to use this book. All you have to do is follow the numbers on the diagrams. If you do know how to read music (even a little bit), it will be helpful to acquire a copy of the sheet music, for reference. One place to get the sheet music on line is at http://musicnotes.com. I’ve broken up the piece into bite-sized sections called measures. For every measure in the piece, there are two pictures: one picture for what the right hand plays, and another for what the left hand plays. For reference, each measure has a sound sample provided (built into this book), which is playable by clicking a button (see example below). To learn and play any given measure, first listen to the sound sample. Then, look at the pictures for that measure (one picture for the right hand, and one for the left), and play the notes in the order in which they are numbered. (Important: The numbers in each picture stand by themselves -- they do not relate to the numbers in any other picture.) To get your bearings on the keyboard, each picture has an X where Middle C is located on the piano. Example: Here is a picture showing a series of notes to be played with the right hand. (Locate middle C by looking for X in the picture.) To play what the picture is illustrating, simply press key #1, followed by key #2, then key #3, etc, on your piano keyboard. Notice that in this example, the number 5 appears on two separate piano keys. This means that you will press both of those keys together, at the same time. Before learning from the example picture, you may want to listen to the sound sample first. This book is free. Please donate here: http://pianodrumteacher.com/vps2 Copyright 2008 Kent Smith Music 1

NOTE: Measures #3, #4, and #5, Left Hand, are exactly the same as in measure #2. In other words, this a repeating pattern in the left hand. You play it once in measure #2, again in measure 3, again in measure 4, and finally again in measure 5. Now, in measure 4, the right-hand melody begins. So, the first sound sample involving both hands is measure 4 (next page).

At this point, Victor is suddenly startled. He abruptly ends the piano solo by playing two big ugly chords. If you want to get that same effect, just bang out two big ugly chords by pressing down a bunch of keys with the palms of both hands. If, however, you want to have a prettier ending, try the following two chords, as illustrated in the pictures below. These chords do leave the solo wanting further development, but I will not try to write the rest of Danny Elfmans piece here! Suggested last two chords -- LH
