VicRoads is the State road and traffic management authority for Victoria

Annual Program Budgets of about AUD$1.9 billion

Revenues of around AUD$4.3 billion including AUD$2.6 billion collected on behalf of agencies

3,100 professional, technical and customer service staff

Aims

VicRoads has five principal Aims:

Achieve ongoing reductions in the number & severity of

road crashes and the resultant cost of road trauma

Assist economic and regional development by managing & improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the road transport system

Develop a more integrated and sustainable road transport system

Enhance the environment through the responsible planning & management of the transport system

Deliver cost effective and customer focussed service to the community.

Develops policy recommendations, program strategies and the annual program of works to:

Improve Victoria’s arterial road network to manage congestion, promote sustainable transport modes and maintain accessibility for all Victorians

Maintain an expanding and diverse range of road related assets.

Road Safety & Network Access Develops policy recommendations, program strategies and

the annual program of works to:

Reduce road trauma

Provide effective, efficient and secure registration and licensing services

Manage regulatory reforms which facilitate on-road freight productivity

Delivery of the annual program of works (other than major projects) through 7 regions

Delivery of tram and bus priority programs

Managing the real time operation of the road network including incident management, developing network operating plans and providing safe access to the network for heavy vehicles

Provides a range of specialist services including:

Technical consulting (design, geotechnical, urban landscape)

Road maintenance & minor construction works

Overseas consulting work in the road sector

Development and marketing of customised number plates

Provides support services including:

Managing financial plans, strategies and systems

Responsible for:

Workforce planning

Managing the commercial arrangements for toll roads in Victoria
