Course Overview
Category 1 Vibration Analysts are qualified to perform a range of single channel machinery vibration condition monitoring and diagnostic activities including data acquisition on predetermined routes, machine steady state testing to predefined procedures, and comparison of readings against pre-established alert settings.
The course offers an optional examination giving the successful candidates an internationally recognised formal qualification in accordance with ISO 18436-2.
The course includes technical presentations, case studies, demonstrations, tutorials and hands on workshops.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to:
• Understand the principles of vibration and how this relates to machine condition
• Operate portable vibration analysers
• Accurately measure single channel vibration data
• Identify erroneous measurements
• Compare vibration measurements against pre-established alert settings.

Schedule – Topics Covered
Day One
• Vibration Principles Introduction to vibration concepts including frequency, amplitude, units, resonance
• Data Acquisition Introduction to data collection including instruments, sensors, mounting methods and locations.
Day Two
• Machine Knowledge Fault sources, frequencies, design and function of machines
• Fault diagnostics Identifying unbalance, misalignment, looseness, resonance and bearing faults; incorporating case studies.
Day Three
• Fault Diagnostics (continued)
• Vibration severity Assess vibration levels to prioritise maintenance actions
• Review and practice exam.
Day Four (optional half day)
• Optional certification exam.
