When Vidhu and Arijeet Purkayastha decided to build a brandcalled Viari, they knew what they were looking for in theirdesigner, and it was a tough combination. They needed ahybrid: someone deeply plugged in to global trends and an international aesthetic, yet with an understanding ofand feel for the Indian consumer.

They met London-based designer Silas Grant quite by chance,through a common friend. Silas had for years designedpremium leather bags and accessories for European and Australian markets, and his designs were an astonishing combination of utility and style. But most important, Silas knewIndia, being as he is a guest lecturer at one of the country’s finest design schools.

Their vision for Viari was so in sync that it took Vidhu, Arijeet and Silas a single meeting to decide they wanted to work together.
