Vianney Traveling Production Delights Grade Schools Vianney’s Griffin Theatre took its show on the road with its annual Traveling Production. This past school year the program performed parts of the play, All I Really Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten. The show traveled in February 2013 to six partner grade schools. Student-actors performed at the following Catholic grade schools: Annunziata, Holy Infant, Sacred Heart of Eureka, St. Joseph - Manchester, St. Paul, and St. Simon the Apostle. “Our story line consists of storytelling that utilizes a theatrical revue format with monologues, dialogues and

multiple voice narrations,” said Mr. Al Book, Griffin Theatre Director. “This production is a funny, insightful and heartwarming look at what is profound about everyday life. We recognize ourself in more than one of the stories.” Members of the traveling production cast included: Sophomore Andrew LaMartina (St. Mary Magdalen - Brentwood); junior Michael Schmidt (St. Margaret Mary Alacoque); senior Brian Robinson (Epiphany); senior Eric Lang (Epiphany); senior Bryan O’Leary (Mary Queen of Peace); and senior Nicholas Hart (St. Richard).

Vianney’s Chess Team Is Tops in National Competition

Vianney’s Chess Team won its second National Chess Championship in the K-12 Division in the Super-National Chess Tournament in Nashville, TN in April. The title was Vianney’s second in three years, having won the 2011 Chess Championship as well. Vianney was led by a team of Tim Ellebracht (St. Margaret Mary Alacoque) with 6 wins and a draw, Alex Moellering (St. Joseph - Manchester) with five wins, no losses and two draws. Jack Lyons (St. Mark Lutheran) had two wins, a draw and a loss. Andrew Krekeler (Home school) and Jordan Hoover (St. Martin of Tours) posted four points each. The varsity team is coached by Mr. Ed Baur and Mr. David Petersen.

Day of Service Brings Griffins Out in Force Vianney is committed to the Marianist goal of educating for service, justice, and peace. Students took a hands-on approach to achieving that goal as during our 4th Annual Service Day on Tuesday, May 14th. This year, students worked all over the metropolitan area fulfilling special service projects. Some of the sites where students worked included Washington Park Cemetery by Lambert Airport; at the St. Louis Area Foodbank (pictured) and at the Howard and Magnolia Head Start Programs.
