Electronic Parts Catalogue - User manual

Introduction

This document gives an overview of the vhIPC application.

vhIPC is the Van Hool Electronic parts catalogue application.

Installation

Requirements

Hardware:

• CPU 300MHz

• RAM 35 MB free

• Display 800x600

Software:

• Operating system: Microsoft Windows 98, NT, 2000, XP

• Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 (or higher)

Starting the application 1. The application vhIPC should start immediately when the cd-rom is inserted. 2. If the application is not started:

• Open an explorer window and browse to the cd-rom drive (E:)

• Double click on "start.exe" 3. If the application is not installed on the workstation then the next screen is

displayed.

Click on one of the options:

• "Install and Run application": the application will be installed on the workstation and will be started. This option is only available when you have sufficient access rights to install software.

• "Run application from CD": the application will start without a local installation.

Installed files

The executable files are placed in the subdirectory "Van Hool\vhipc" of the default program files directory (p.e. "c:\Program Files").




Local index files are placed in the subdirectory "Van Hool\vhIPC" of the common application data directory (p.e. "c:\Documents and settings\All users\Application Data").

A shortcut "Van Hool – Parts Catalogue" is placed in the start menu.

Installation on a workstation or server

The cd rom contents may be copied to a directory on the harddisk of the workstation or a server.

Everyone who has read permission to this directory can start the vhIPC application by browsing in the windows explorer to the directory and clicking "start.exe'.

screen areas:

• 1 : button pane

• 2 : table of contents / index pane

• 3 : info pane displaying the properties of the selected item in the table of contents

• 4 : graphics pane

• 5 : list pane displaying the contents of the selected item

Open parts manual




screen areas:

• 1 : search pane

• 2 : button pane

• 3 : index pane

The index pane shows the available parts manuals on CD. The selected parts manual is highilghted (light green). Explanation of the properties shown:

• 0948 : catalogue name (name of the parts manual)

• edition 1 : edition number

• 17/11/2005 : date of issue

• T915 : catalogue title

• Construction number : VIN

You can search and open a parts manual by

• browsing in the index pane, select the desired parts manual and press the Open button.

• or by using the search pane to sort and filter the index and then select and open

The "local index" on the second tabpage of the index pane shows a list of all previous opened parts manuals.




Button pane

select and open a parts manual (see previous section)

closes the vhIPC application

backward and forward buttons

select button to display the parts manual contents in the corresponding language

changes the font size

shows/hides the drawing

prints the displayed drawing and contents

exports all part numbers to a tab delimited text file

list pane

• POS : position of part on the drawing

• Q : quantity

• Ref.N° : part number

• » : link to another parts list, clicking on the blue underlined text opens the corresponding parts list.




graphic pane

To zoom in, click with the left mouse button on the desired location of the graphic. To zoom out, click with the right mouse button.

To move the graphic, click with the left mouse button, hold down and move the cursor.

copies the graphic to the clipboard so you can paste it in a word processing application

prints the graphic

shows the full drawing

shows the drawing in its original size

Index pane – search for information

The index pane is on the second tabpage. To search for information in the parts manual: 1. select the desired index field

• Group : title of an item in the table of contents

• Spare part : title of a part

• Ref.N° : number of a part




2. type the text to search for in the edit field and press the return key

Only the items that contain the text are listed.

3. Double click in the result list on the desired line to show its contents.

Export data

The export function creates a tab delimited text file.

Exported fields:

• Group

• Description (Group)

• Recnr

• POS

• Q

• Spare part : Ref.N°

• Description (Spare part)

• Specification

The exported text file can easily be imported in a database or spreadsheet application.




Select spare parts to order

Select the desired spare part in the list panel.

: increase order number with 1
