Seminar II - 3 Days

This seminar is designed for Equine Practitioners who want to expand their dental practice to include more advanced procedures. A basic knowledge and proficiency in equine dentistry is required for this seminar. It is assumed that the student is familiar with the basics of dental equilibration and the recognition of dental pathology.

This seminar provides participants with the necessary knowledge to perform advanced equine dental procedures. The knowledge gained will allow equine practitioners to provide advanced dental care for their patients.

Day 1: Class Lectures (6 Hours)• Basics of Equine Dental Pathology• Digital Imaging (Review of Basics &

Interpretation of Radiographs)• Extractions (Intraoral & Surgical)• Periodontics (Disease & Treatment)• Endodontics (Disease & Treatment)

Seminar I - 3 Days

This seminar is designed to provide participants with the necessary knowledge to properly balance the typical equine mouth using hand and motorized instruments. The seminar will consist of one day of small classroom lectures, one day of working with cadavers and skull models and one day working on live horses.

* Travis Henry, DVM - Seminars I & II Midwest Equine Services, WIDr. Travis Henry graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. After graduation, he has pursued interests in equine dentistry along with general practice and owned and operated a full service, eight doctor, equine clinic in northeastern Wisconsin. Dr. Henry has been very involved with improvements in equine dentistry and developed the Flexi-Float™, the most advanced mechanical floating system on the market. Dr. Henry now provides dental training for several equine practices, conducts veterinary seminars and enjoys dental practice in southeastern Wisconsin. Dr. Henry is currently attending UC Davis to become board certified in equine dentistry.

* Scott Marx, DVM - Seminars I & II Advance Equine Dentistry, CODr. Scott Marx hails from Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Dr. Marx received his Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1981 and served as an Army officer and paratrooper in US, Europe and Asia until 1990. In 1995, Dr. Marx graduated from the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and practiced general equine medicine as a partner in a mixed animal practice in Bailey, Colorado. In 2000, Dr. Marx started Advance Equine Dentistry, an equine dentistry exclusive practice. He has taught equine dentistry in the United States, Republic of South Africa and Australia.

* Leon Scrutchfield, DVM (Retired) - Seminar I Texas A&M University

Dr. Leon Scrutchfield received his DVM degree from the University of Missouri in 1965. After two years in the Army, Dr. Scrutchfield practiced general veterinary medicine in southwest Missouri for six years. Dr. Scrutchfield left private practice to train as an Equine Medicine Resident at the University of Missouri and after finishing the residency practiced Equine Medicine at Texas A&M University for ten years. Following Texas A&M, Dr. Scrutchfield worked in an Equine Practice in Brenham, Texas and was the Equine Field Service Clinician for TAMU. Dr. Scrutchfield retired in December 2004 after 19 years in this position. Over the last 15 years Dr. Scrutchfield has been involved in dental education programs and wet labs for international, national and state veterinary associations. In addition, he has received teaching awards from TAMU and the Educator of the Year Award from the American Association of Equine Practitioners.
