This guide includes national and local resources available to assist Veterans released from active duty and their families who are struggling to avoid homelessness or experiencing homelessness.

Services include help with: depression, sadness, grief, anxiety, worry, nervousness

, addictive behaviors, relationship problems, stress from medical problems and/or

pain, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), emotional problems, such as managing

anger, vocational issues, troublesome thoughts or ideas, confused thinking,

aggressive or self-harming behaviors, and memory problems.

Chaplain Service: To speak with a chaplain, call: 316-685-2221 ext. 53413.

Telephone Care Line. For medical advice, questions about medication, or to

schedule a non-urgent appointment: 316-685-2221 or 1-888-878-6881 (press 2 and

then choose from the Blue or Gold team). Monday - Friday, 8 am - :30 pm.

PTSD Program, US Dept. of Veteran Affairs

Services: One-to-one mental health assessment and testing, Medicines, One-to-one

psychotherapy and also family therapy, Group therapy (covers topics such as anger

and stress, combat support, partners, or groups for Veterans of specific conflicts.

VA Medical Centers without a specific PTSD Program do offer PTSD Treatment:

Contact your local VA Medical Center and ask for the “Mental Health Clinic.”

Many Vet Centers & VA Community Based Outpatient Clinics also offer PTSD

treatment.

VA Medical Centers without a specific SUD Program do offer SUD Treatment:

Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF)

Designed to assist low-income veterans and their families in obtaining and

maintaining stable housing.

Serves those at risk of becoming homeless or currently homeless, and reside or plan

to reside in the state of Kansas.

Services include: homeless prevention, rapid re-housing, and a menu of supportive

services (e.g., life skills training, job preparation, credit repair,

transportation assistance) as well as assistance from peer mentors.

Provides VA benefits and services to veterans in Kansas; oversees benefits delivery.

Co-located on VA grounds with the Dole VAMC - Building #61.

Also has Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment offices located in the Topeka

VA Medical Center and at the Irwin Army Hospital, Ft. Riley, Kansas.

Transition services. Three major military installations located in Kansas: Ft.

Leavenworth, Ft. Riley & McConnell Air Force Base provide transition assistance and

disabled transition assistance briefings to help service members as they transition

from military to civilian life. Service members may also receive pre-separation

counseling prior to retirement or separation from active duty.
