2. You once were seen by chosen threeUpon the mount, your face aglowWith splendor to outshine the sun,And garments bright as purest snow.

3. The three Apostles grew in faithAs this great vision they adored,While prophets of the ancient LawBore witness to their God and Lord.

4. And then the Father’s voice on high,Proclaimed you as his Son most dear; Our grateful hearts acclaim you King,Our minds desire your words to hear.

5. You once consented for our sake,Our lowly mortal state to bearTo raise us up, condemned by sin,That we your life divine may share.

6. O God our Father, with the SonAnd Spirit, ever reigning One,Be present with us here belowThat future glory we may know. Amen.

psalm 109 Dixit Dominus

The Lord’s revelation to my Master: +“Sit on my right: *

your foes I will put beneath your feet.”

The Lord will yield from Zion +your scepter of power:rule in the midst of all your foes.

A prince from the day of your birth +on the holy mountains; *from the womb before the dawn I begot you.

The Lord has sworn an oath he will not change. +“You are a priest for ever, *a priest like Melchizedek of old.

The Master standing at your right hand *will shatter kings in the day of his great wrath.

He shall drink from the stream by the wayside *and therefore he shall lift up his head.”

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit:as it was in the beginning, is now, *and will be for ever. Amen.

The Antiphon is repeated.

Jesus took Peter, James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain where they could be alone, and he was transfigured before them.

5.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains; *from where shall come my help?

My help shall come from the Lord *who made heaven and earth.

May he never allow you to stumble! *Let him sleep not, your guard. No, he sleeps not nor slumbers, *Israel’s guard.*

The Lord is your guard and your shade; *at your right side he stands.By day the sun shall not smite you *nor the moon in the night.

The Lord will guard you from evil, *he will guard you soul. The Lord will guard your going and coming *both now and for ever.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit:

as it was in the beginning, is now, * and will be for ever. Amen.

The Antiphon is repeated.

And his face did shine as the sun: and his garments became white as snow.

psalm 120 Levabo couLos meos

6.

A voice from Heaven sounded and the voice of the Father was heard: ¶ This is my Son, in whom I am well-pleased: listen to Him.

reading Romans 8: 16-17

[In this Canticle, the entire congregation sings every verse.]

He who was manifested in the flesh, * was justified in the spirit, ¶

appeared unto angels, * hath been preached unto the Gentiles, ¶

is believed in the world, * is taken up in glory. ¶

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit:

as it was in the beginning, is now, * and will be for ever. Amen.

After the Gloria Patri the entire antiphon is repeated.

7.

Confession and beauty are in his sight. * Alleluia, alleluia.Sanctity and magnificence are in his sanctuary. * Alleluia, alleluia.Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. * Alleluia, alleluia.

[The congregation is invited to sing the Alleluia responses.]

All stand for the mAgnificAt [Antiphon translation below; the music begins overleaf]

When they heard the voice from the cloud, the disciples fell on their faces, overcome with fear; Jesus came up to them, touched them and said: Stand up. Do not be afraid.

8.

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, * my spirit rejoices in God my

savior

for he has looked with favor * on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations * will call me blessed:

the Almighty has done great things for me, * and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him * in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm, * he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, * and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things, * and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel * for he has remembered his promise of mercy,

the promise he made to our fathers, *to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *and to the Holy Spirit:

as it was in the beginning, is now, *and will be for ever. Amen.

The Antiphon is repeated.
