I was introduced to art in my youth during a time when hip hop and graffiti defined urban culture. Growing up in Bridgeport, CT, I’d take the train to New York and absorb all it had to offer me. In the bold lines and bright colors, I saw strength. The writing on the walls seemed to shout: Look at me! I’m here! While I admired the intrepid markings of the graffiti writers, I also found myself looking inward. Inspired by movies like Labyrinth, I began to explore the idea of creating my own fictional world through art. I use Aerosol and acrylic as an escape route.

These days, my work incorporates a process of textures and washes. Thematically, I continue to explore issues of sadness and longing in varying mediums, including: sculpture, paintings, graphite, ink, mixed media and digital vector art.

TadoTADO is us two - Mike and Katie. We started working together at university in 2001, and set up our business together in 2002. We work from our tiny studio at home in Sheffield, UK. We mostly do illustration work across a very wide range of projects. We use very simple techniquers in our work - nothing fancy at all. The inspiration comes from all over the place!. We enjoy mixing in a huge range of influences such as the aesthetics of the big cities of asia combined with the dry british humour and a little bit of darkness added in each time.

I am a self-taught artist who has worked, since 1995, as a freelance illustrator. I had made exhibitions overseas since 2006, what I draw is primarily focused on Japanese themes. I’m Japanese, so I choose elements that allow me to communicate proudly with the world in a personal Japanese style.

At first I worked with the Airbrush. However, I was getting tired of that method. At that time, I met a software named “Painter”. Painter is an awesome software that can emulate an analog technique. Now I use it for all the processes in my line of work. I hardly use presets in my draws (copy & paste, effects, etc.), because I love drawing and I enjoy doing it myself. I think that my inspiration comes from my “japanese blood”.
