Introducing Verge granules… a complete line of dust-free chemical and
biological carriers that feature three choices to vary the release rate of active
ingredients. Advanced processing techniques and a natural raw material are
combined to create innovative granules with unsurpassed function, uniformity,
and appearance. Beautifully spherical, your formulated products will look
and perform their very best.
Verge granules are made from millions of inert micro-particles that are
agglomerated to form a hard, dust-free core. The granules are durable
and can withstand the demands of material handling and transport, while
providing your customers with low-dust products of unsurpassed ease-of-use.
They are available in a range of disintegration rates and sizes to best fit your
end-use application.

Verge has a durable outer core that prevents tiny fragments from
breaking off, unlike traditional, irregular-shaped granules that
rub together during handling, transportation, and formulation.
Professionals and consumers will now enjoy the greater satisfaction that
comes from using a formulated product with improved handling and
reduced dust exposure.
granule technology
ultra-low dustConsumer and worker exposure to dusty formulations is a concern with
chemical formulations. Active ingredients contained in airborne dust particles
pose a risk during material handling, formulation, and application. Verge
granules are made using a unique process that makes them hard, durable and
dust free.
The pictures to the right were taken during an internal test to compare the
airborne dust emitted by traditional carriers from a common industry spreader.
A black background was used to improve the visibility of emitted dust which is
often difficult to see in sunlight. The difference is clear – Verge granules have
the lowest visible dust.
Verge granules were also compared to a popular paper-based granule often
cited by formulators as having the lowest airborne dust among commercial
granules. Side-by-side tests confirm Verge granules have lower dust than the
leading cellulosic complex granule.

uniformityFormulators have long known that smaller granules contain more active
ingredient by weight than larger granules. The result is a variable
concentration of active ingredient on the granules. (Figure 1)
Verge granules are manufactured using a unique process that creates a highly
uniform particle size and weight. This results in a more uniform concentration
of active ingredient on the particles to help you formulate with greater
precision. (Figure 1)
The problems with uniformity are magnified during application when light
granules containing more active ingredient by weight are thrown closer to the
spreader, and heavy granules containing less active ingredient are thrown
farther from the spreader. The result is variable coverage of active ingredient
across the treatment area.
Verge granules help overcome this problem. Application tests using a rotary
spreader show that Verge granules are evenly distributed across the swath
width regardless of distance from the spreader. This results in a more even
distribution of granules and active ingredient across the treatment area. (Figure
2)
You invest a lot of research dollars identifying the precise treatment rate for
your active ingredient. Choosing the right carrier can ensure your customers
will actually deliver that rate and achieve maximum performance.
versatilityVerge granules are the most flexible product line of inert carriers available
today. Our dust-free, highly uniform granules are available in three standard
sizes that cover a range of end-use applications from golf greens and turf to
aquatics. Each size is also available with three different disintegration rates
that offer flexibility to control the delivery rate of your active ingredients.
Our new state-of-the-art agglomeration plant uses a flexible manufacturing
process that also makes it possible to create custom granular formulations that
better fit your end-use application.
Physical properties such as bulk density, size, or color can be changed, or we
can create custom formulations that incorporate non-active ingredients.
Our over sixty years of mineral processing expertise has led to the creation of
an advanced platform for granulation technology to assure your success for
years to come.

SGN: A measurement developed by the Canadian Fertilizer Institute that
determines median particle size by locating the 50% retain point in a
product’s size distribution curve. The particle size in mm is multiplied by 100
and rounded to the nearest five.
Uniformity Index: Represents the “tightness of particle size distribution” for
granular materials. The higher the value, the more uniform the sample. An
index of 100 means all particles are exactly the same size.
Dust Index: A measurement of optical density of resulting dust when
granular material is dropped into a closed chamber.
Hardness: A measurement of resistance to attrition calculated by agitating
material in a pan with steel balls and measuring the resulting fragments of
material.
Liquid Hold Capacity: A measure of a sorbent material’s ability to retain
liquid and still remain free flowing, expressed as a WT%. The higher the
value, the greater percentage of liquid a sample can hold.
Angle of Repose: A measurement of the maximum angle of stable slope of
a granular material. Materials with a lower angle of repose overcome friction
at a lower angle and flow more smoothly.

Eliminating Waste
Formulating products with Verge granules has never been more clean and
safe – and better for your bottom line. Using dust-free granules avoids
the disposal of waste fines that are commonly screened from shipments of
traditional carriers. The case study below from a commercial formulation
plant is an example of the cost to your bottom line of using poor quality
granules in your formulations.
Waste fines and dust added 8% to the total cost of granules in this plant and
reduced profit margins.
$275 Delivered Cost of Granules to Plant
Waste Fines Screened Upon Delivery:
$11 4% of delivered material
Waste generated during formulation:
$5.52 A.I. – on fines (Assumes 0.2% Bifenthrin) $5.50 Fine granules screened off (2% of delivered material)
$297 Total Cost
Do you know the true cost of your formulations?

Precise Formulations
Formulators understand the difficulties of loading a consistent amount of active
ingredient on granules with a large amount of fines. Fine granules have a
larger surface area to mass ratio that typically results in significantly higher
active ingredient loading versus the target formulation.
Verge granules help overcome this problem because they have a highly
uniform particle size with minimal fines. This results in a more uniform
concentration of active ingredient on the particles so you can formulate with
greater precision and make it easier to stay within regulatory tolerances.
