INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Page 25: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The concrete base slab is constructed – it is flat and simple . . . . .

Page 26: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . air and gas pipes are cast in . . . . .

Page 27: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . the fans are installed and the inner membrane fixed . . .

Page 28: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . the outer membrane is then installed, with its supports from the inner membrane . . .

Page 29: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . the gas over-pressure relief system is added . . .

Page 30: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . and finally the instruments are installed.

Page 31: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Initial concrete base slab, flat and simple.

Page 32: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

Fan set and air regulation valve ready for use (note air pipe is cast into slab).

Page 33: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

Gas inlet and outlet pipes cast into slab.

Page 34: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

Inner membrane, pre-packed in factory, is brought up to the slab.

Page 35: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The membrane locations are marked out onto the slab . . . . .

Page 36: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . all that is required is two simple circles drawn on the slab.

Page 37: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The inner membrane is rolled onto the slab . . . . .

Page 38: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . unwrapped . . . . .

Page 39: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . and unrolled across the slab into approximate position.

Page 40: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The inner membrane is then half unfurled . . . . .

Page 41: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . and shifted up to the setting-out marks.

Page 42: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The other half is then unfurled . . . . .

Page 43: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . and the inner membrane is now more or less located.

Page 44: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The inner membrane holding down strip (the “keder”) is then pulled carefully up to its correct position on the setting-out mark.

Page 45: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The reinforcement patch at the gas pipe positions needs to be carefully located above the pipes.

Page 46: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The stainless steel anchorage angles.

Page 47: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

A neoprene strip is located on the “keder” . . . . .

Page 48: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . and one of the stainless steel angles located on it so that the outer edge of the “keder” is exactly coincident with the setting-out mark.

Page 49: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

Drilling now commences . . . . .

Page 50: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . and the stainless steel “through bolt” is hammered home.

Page 51: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

This process continues right round the circumference until the inner membrane is entirely anchored. Note that there have been no parts requiring casting-in.

Page 52: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The straps which connect the inner membrane to the outer membrane are shown here being assembled. These straps are needed to support the inner membrane (at its equator) from the outer membrane when inflated.

Page 53: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The inner membrane attachment is welded in place in the factory . . . . .

Page 54: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . and to this is simply connected another length of webbing strap that constitutes the main connection between inner membrane and outer . . . . .

Page 55: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . leaving us with a strap ready for later connection to the outer membrane.

Page 56: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

We now need to get to the gas pipe connections to make a permanent seal with the inner membrane floor. Access is gained through an access tube welded to the inner membrane wall.

Page 57: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

Inside the inner membrane, on the floor, a hole is cut through the membrane at the gas pipe position. This is simply done with a knife.

Page 58: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

A stainless steel “backing ring” is then located over the cast-in gas pipe flange (which has threaded holes) . . . . .

Page 59: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . and holes are cut out of the membrane using a standard hole punch.

Page 60: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

Finally the “backing ring” is installed with two gaskets and bolted up with stainless steel bolts, washers and sealant.

Page 61: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The access tube can now be sealed, using hot air.

Page 62: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

This work must be done carefully, as the tube must be completely sealed and gas tight.

Page 63: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

Finally the sealed tube is rolled up . . . . .

Page 64: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . and tucked into its own “envelope”, readily accessible if entry is ever required in future . . . . .

Page 65: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . and the envelope is finally laced up to secure the rolled up tube.

Page 66: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The target board for receiving the ultrasonic level measurement signal from the transducer to be located in the top of the outer membrane is now assembled . . . . .

Page 67: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . and connected securely to the top of the inner membrane by ropes tied through factory-welded tags.

Page 68: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

A ballast ring is now assembled. This weight gives stability to the inner membrane and ensures a regular shape to the membrane during inflation and deflation.

Page 69: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The inner membrane is now complete, and work on the outer membrane can begin.

Page 70: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The outer membrane is rolled up to the slab . . . . .

Page 71: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . and over the completed inner membrane.

Page 72: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

It is unfurled . . . . .

Page 73: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . unrolled . . . . .

Page 74: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . and spread out to its approximate position on the slab.

Page 75: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The outer membrane spread out.

Page 76: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

Holes are punched in the outer membrane for the various fittings . . . . .

Page 77: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . which are then simply attached with stainless steel bolts.

Page 78: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The anchorages can now be fixed, in exactly the same manner as carried out on the inner membrane.

Page 79: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The anchoring down carries on round the periphery of the outer membrane, working to the marking out lines drawn earlier.

Page 80: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

Outer membrane door detail.

Page 81: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The outer membrane is now complete . . . . .

Page 82: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . and inflation can start, using the installed fans.

Page 83: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

Inflation proceeds . . . . .

Page 84: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . . and we can now enter the outer membrane, through the hatch, to see the membrane lifting away from the inner membrane, which is not yet attached to the outer.

Page 85: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The circumferential cable is threaded through the outer membrane eyelets, and the previously laced up connecting straps attached . . . . .

Page 86: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

. . . . .and the gas leak detection pipe fitted.

Page 87: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The outer membrane can now be finally inflated to its working pressure, and the final adjustments made to the interconnecting straps.

Page 88: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The work inside the gasholder is now compete. Au revoir!

Page 89: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The gas leak detection pipe is now pulled through its outer membrane flange.

Page 90: Vergas Biogas Duo-Sphere

Vergas biogas systems

The gasholder is nearly complete.
