Since 1999, VERDEGO has been engaged in the design and
execution of retail and restaurant spaces. VERDEGO is a full
service design firm committed to creating innovative solutions
for a wide range of local and national clients.
VERDEGO has worked with many pioneering companies such as
Quiksilver, ASICS, Roxy, Burton, and O’Neill. Recently completed
projects include the Burton SOHO flagship store in New York City,
585 Boardriders for Quiksilver in Venice, Ca and Oscar’s Cerveteca
restaurant in Venice, CA.

VERDEGO is a vibrant design office based in Venice, CA. Tatiana Barhar and Sarai Grenell, co-founders, wanted to start a studio that merged fashion, design and architecture. By seeking out lifestyle brands VERDEGO is one of the first companies to bring the lifestyle of California beach culture into the retail environment. The VERDEGO team consists of artists, graphic designers, archi-tects, fabricators and material specialists. Living in an artistic community, VERDEGO collaborates with local artists to create unique designs.

New York City, NY
BURTON FLAGSHIP STORE
Located in the heart of Soho, the flagship store is housed in a significantly historical building.
VERDEGO reinterpreted the historical setting to create a dynamic and exciting retail experi-
ence using the richly layered historical neighborhood filled with artists and shopping.

The design incorporates elements of the mountains, authentic materials such as barn wood,
distressed steel and refurbished vintage floors as well as paring cutting edge technology to
create a potent customer experience.

flanking the cashwrap, the ‘Cabin’, is an A frame structure pivots on its access to create
a sense of movement and rhythm. Made of vintage timbers and exposed distressed steel
hardware, the cabin evokes the feeling of a Vermont cabin. The surrounding soffits and
cashwrap are clad in barn wood.

The design of the store’s interior draws on inspiration from the mountain lodges of Vermont
with soffits clad in local vintage barnwood as well distressed steel beams and edging.

The ‘Chairlift’ feature with the quality of a period chairlift made of curved powder coated
steel and wood slats. The chairlift houses featured merchandise to create a distinctive space
within the store.

The store’s design contains a central feature area that houses snowboard styles and hardgoods.
Over 100 years of paint was stripped from the iron columns to reveal its original surface beauty.
This section has a custom stained floor and is surrounded by original columns.

The ‘Snowboard Press’ brings to life the Burton Snowboard fabrication process. It is a
recreation of the snowboard press used in Burton’s Vermont design shop. To emphasize
this, a video screens sitting within the press, shows films of the snowboard making pro-
cess.

OSCAR’S CERVETECALos Angeles, CA
Located along a mixed use street in Venice, California, VERDEGO designed a
unique neighborhood restaurant that blurs the lines between kitchen and dining
as well as the indoor and outdoor spaces.

The warm palette features local artisan installed reclaimed wood, carrara marble,
raw steel and exposed beams.

ROXYCosta Mesa, CA
The storefront features custom resin panels with fragments of seashells embedded
as well as reclaimed wood, while allowing a clear view to the back of the store.

VERDEGO collaborated with Steve Jones of Better Shelter on the renovation of the flagship
ROXY store in the high end South Coast Plaza Mall. Located in Orange County, the home to
Roxy’s parent brand Quiksilver, the store highlights a collection of eclectic surf artifacts.

VERDEGO designed a new flagship store for Quiksilver in the heart of Venice, CA that
celebrates the lifestyle and culture of the community. The design integrates an urban
palette that will patina with time while restoring the original brick and wood structure of
the building.

Dark zinc soffits and wall panels contrast and highlight the original structure while
perforated metal panels allow the building to glow as a lantern in the night.

VERDEGO collaborated with artists Craig Stecyk and Kevin Ancell to create a 25’-0” long
mural along the side of the building with adjacent benches that are skate friendly.

The surf shop displays hundreds of surfboards which direct attention to a 15’-0” LCD
display of vintage surf footage. Surf art and displays celebrate Quiksilver’s surf team
and surf culture.

The skate area is reminiscent of an auto body shop with its large metal panels and a black
framed “garage door” area. The skating video and an industrial palette reflect Quiksilver’s
urban skate brand, DC Shoes.

The Gallery / Pop-Up Store area is partially enclosed by an storefront glazing system and
the space allows for monthy art installations by local Venice artists as well as limited edi-
tion products that can also be featured.

Under one of the store’s many skylights, VERDEGO brings nature into the space
through a 14-0” vertical garden of air plants with seating beneath.

Roxy and QS Girls area features reclaimed wood that feels touched by the elements
of surf and sand. The light natural palette integrates “found” elements, flea market
paintings and incorporated art installations.

VERDEGO designed ASICS first stand-alone store in the U.S. which features its technologically
advanced shoes and clothing line. The store is strategically located across from Bryant Park in
New York City and is a vibrant center for the running community and the NYC Marathon.

Taking its cues from the brand’s intense blue color, VERDEGO used the same deep
penetrating color of the logo on the sculptural wall that adorns the main wall of the
store that is visible from the storefront.

The Foot ID room delivers a state of the art foot ID system which analyzes a customer’s
personal running style and allows them to maximize their running performance. 3-D
topography of a foot was used as the interior wallpaper.

The fixturing throughout the store highlights the merchandise The entire
space moves in rhythm to the contours of the human body.
