W e are once again closing another year. It was a time of hard work for all of us, but we are sure to be on the right track. We were able to participate in various fairs and events, stressing Veolia’s name in various sectors of our industry. We

also had an important acquisition, ELGA Labwater from Nova Analítica. As we already mentioned in our past VeoNews, Veolia is now handling 100% of ELGA’s operations in the national market.

In this last edition of the year, you will be able to check out Veolia Water Brasil’s participation in previous fairs, like the Latin American Congress of Microbiology and the National Meeting on Laboratories Methodologies and Management, by Embrapa; you will also know for which initiatives Veolia has already confirmed its presence in 2013.

In the events section, VeoNews reports about Family Day and Children’s Day. Our emphasis is on the Solidarity Christmas Campaign, focused on NGO Cultivando Amor Colhendo Vidas (CACV), responsible for assisting children and teenagers who live in poor families of the São Miguel Paulista community.

VeoNews brings the latest news of Veolia: the sponsoring of cultural and sports events through Fiscal Incentive Laws. For 2013, the company will sponsor the beautiful exhibition and the book “Retorno a Amazônia” (Return to the Amazon), which features the Amazon expedition of Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of legendary Jacques-Yves Cousteau. Another initiative sponsored by Veolia is the Night Run in the main cities of the country.

We wish all of you a great 2013!

Enjoy reading.

Veolia Water Brasil promoted the 1st Latin American Meeting between November 21 and 23, in Uruguay. The initiative gathered directors and managers of Latam Business Units (Venezuela, Argen-tina, México, Chile and Brazil), and aimed at tightening links and allowing the discovery of efficient strategies to be used by each one of them.

The agenda allowed participants to enjoy lectures on topics like synergy and strategic issues for 2013. “In a globalized world, it is

vital that companies willing to launch new products, services and technologies get to know the cultural differences of the markets. Such cultural diversity helps the sharing of ideas and contribute to the springing of better processes and projects”, summarized Yvan Liegey, CEO VWS Latin America.

Liegey added that diversity is a strate-gic resource

able to increase the performance of the company and its employ-ees. “It is an element for foster-ing competition! The meeting allowed very rich experiences and may give us a new vision of the business in the coming years.”

Veolia Water Brasil shared its expertise in water and effluents management and treatment during the “VIII Workshop Water Management and reuse in manufacturing companies”, which took place in November in Florianópolis.

Luiz Abrahão, Technology and Process Engineer at Veolia, gave the lecture “Veolia Systems for Effluent Treatment aiming at Water Reuse”, pinpointing the general aspects of water reuse and its current market. The participants were also informed about which technologies and solutions Veolia offers to the

industry, focusing on success cases in Brazil and in the World.www.feesc.org.br/floripaworkshop/?pg=home

Veolia Water Brasil will sponsor, in 2013, the Night Run in the main cities of the country. Veolia sponsor-ship works through the Tax Incentive Law for Sports (Law 11.438), in power since 2007, allowing athletes and sports groups to have their projects approved by the Ministry of Sports.

For Veolia, it is an extra opportunity to promote the visibility of our mark and even build a better relationship with our customers. Besides this, 40 employees of the company will be registered for the Night Run, in the São Paulo leg. In 2013 there will be 10 legs in 10 different cities, among which are São Paulo, Campinas, Curitiba, Rio de Janeiro, Fortaleza and Recife, and will have more than 100,000 partici-pants.

“It is the first time Veolia sponsors a sports event using this incentive law. We believe it is crucial to encourage the whole of society to practice sports and unite people around a common ideal: the promotion of health”, emphasizes Béatrice de Toledo Dupuy, Marketing and Communications Manager.

Veolia Water Brasil is the sponsor of the exhibi-tion and the publishing of the book “Return to the Amazon”, to take place in the country in 2013. The book and the exhibition portray the Amazon expedition of Jean-Yves Cousteau, son of legend-ary Jacques-Yves Cousteau, his children Fabien and Céline, and some members of the team of the Cousteau Amazon Society and the Ocean Futures Society.

In 1982, Jean-Michel, Jacques Cousteau and a crew of more than 50 people explored the Amazon by land, water and air. Twenty-five years later, Jean-Michel revisits the large forest with a question: after 25 years, what has changed in the forest? The answers are in the exhibition coming for the first time to Brazil, which illustrates every detail of this adventure, besides offering the photographic book to be launched by the publishing house Cultura Sub.

“Veolia prioritizes investments in cultural actions for the environment, aiming at alerting for the need of respecting and caring for the ecosystem, and at the same time it brings together people and culture”, adds Béatrice de Toledo Dupuy, Marketing and Communications Manager.

Around 300 people participated in the Family Day, a celebration of Veolia Water Brasil that took place on October 27 at the ranch O Bosque, in Vargem Grande Paulista. The participants had a fun day with their families, and enjoyed various activities both for children and adults, like treasure hunting, kite workshop, a ball pit, swimming pool, volleyball matches, a barbecue and a lot of samba.

Tatiane Barbosa, Tax Assistant, enjoyed the swimming pool and

played foosball and volleyball with her colleagues. “This is my first celebration at Veolia and I loved it a lot. It is a great oppor-tunity to better know colleagues from other areas. As Veolia is

spread in four floors, we normal-ly do not have the opportunity to meet other employees, so this celebration is good to build new relationships”, she added.

Veolia Water Brasil’s year-end celebration was full of Brazilian-centered activities, under the theme “My Brazilian Brazil.” The event took place on December 14 at Espaço Quintal, a histori-cal building fully decorated with regional, green and yellow, decor.

The 150 participating employees were welcomed with musicians playing berimbau and were served acarajá by baiana-dressed performers. The guests could

also enjoy a typical country meal. “A celebration occasion is ideal for tighten-ing relationships among employ-ees and getting to know people from other areas”, emphasized Adria-no Longo, Commer-cial Director.

In order to celebrate Children’s Day, Veolia Water Brasil promot-ed a joyful event on October 6 for the children of the employees and one of their guests. Around 50 children between 4 and 12 had a day full of activities at Casa da Pedra, a facility with more than 20 scaling walls for all different levels of difficulties, and which is located in São Paulo.

The little ones loved indoor scaling, zip-lining, slacklining,

radical swing, a three-story slay, tug of war, treasure hunt and many others, besides enjoying a special meal.

Julia Gaspariano Pereira, 9, was one of the kids who seized the day practicing radical activities. According to her father, Veolia

Financial Analyst Eurípedes Pereira, Julia always loves the company-sponsored initiatives. “Veolia always promotes events that stir up the little one’s creativity. Julia can hardly wait for the next opportunity.”

Hydrex LineTM: chemical products for water treatment

Veolia Water Brasil makes available to the local market the Hydrex line of products, optimizing water costs, chemical products consumption and operational and maintenance reduction. Veolia develops chemi-cal products for water treatment, made to satisfy the standards of various customers, both in manufacturing and municipalities.

The Hydrex products are specially formulated to perfect the applications of water treatment, like the physical-chemical pre-treatment of water, decantation, filtration, reverse osmosis, resins, etc; for the treatment of cooling systems, vapor, cool water; for the production of drinking water and process water; and for the treatment of efflu-ents, etc.

The Hydrex line works on the prevention of incrustation generation, corrosion and deposition, besides decreasing the stop period for the machines, granting the optimiza-tion of production, preventing and reducing environmen-tal risks and saving energy. The products are formulated

in order to match every type of water treatment, supply-ing the specific needs for each manufacturing plant.

“We create solutions for all kinds of water and applica-tions (pre-treatment, utilities, process and effluents), destined for the treatment of industrial and municipal water, as well as industrial effluents. We offer resources aligned with the operational needs of every customer”, concluded Luis Antonio Silva, Hydrex Development Manager. http://www.veoliawaterst.com/hydrex/po/

Veolia Water Brasil sponsored, for the second year, the Solidar-ity Christmas campaign, which encourages its employees to be voluntary grandparents of children from the NGO Cultivat-ing Love, Harvesting Lives (CACV, according to the Portuguese initials), by assisting children and teenagers belonging to poor families from the São Miguel Paulista community.

Through the Solidarity Christmas, Veolia encouraged its employees

to be the godparents of around 130 children between 2 and 4 by donating a pair of shoes, clothes and a toy. In this second edition of Solidarity Christmas for CACV, the 130 gift kits gathered were delivered by Santa Claus during a party sponsored on December 8.

“CACV aims at professionaliz-ing and changing life histories. Throughout the years, we have been seeing young people get into the world of crime and drugs without having an alternative

choice. Thus, the NGO was estab-lished so that they could become what they dreamed of, knowing that they just have to fulfill their goals and reach their objectives. We, from CAVC, present them the world, besides teaching them citizenship through social activi-ties”, explained Marcos Rodrigues, the founder of the NGO and Electrical and Instrumentation Enginner at Veolia. Veolia Water Brasil brings together safety and simplicity in water production with controlled quality. The Fully Deionized Service (SDI, in Portuguese) offers to various manufacturing companies constant quality water supply, in any capacity, with no need of using privately-owned equipment. The treatment cylinders are supplied for rent and the follow-up of the operation includes periodical replacement of resins.

“SDI represents an alternative to conventional supply systems for customers which need purified water. A pioneer service in the country offered by those which best understand water and effluents technology in the world”, emphasizes Edson Ferreira, SDL Business Manager. SDI may be used in various sectors like cosmetics, automotive, chemical, microelectronic, biotechnology, petrochemical, energy, pharmaceutical, galvanoplastic, food and beverages, among others.

It also works for specific industries which demand special solutions, as in the case of purified water generation according to standards set up by the pharmaceutical industry: microbiological control; recirculation; UV with TOC reduction; 0.22 micras filters; sanitary connections; it does not require

chemical products; uses high quality resins; does not produce effluents to be neutralized; includes specialized customer support; easy to operate through PLC automatic control; offers validation package and is available for rent without initial investment.

Regeneration unit - Veolia has its own central resins regeneration specially designed and built to grant total safety and quality for SDI.

Veolia Water Brasil designed and developed the Aquamove system, which grants quality water treatment to satisfy the needs of companies both in an emergency as well as in other situations, whenever quick and reliable measurement is needed.

The markets that could benefit from Aquamove are: Manufacturing, Oil & Gas, Chemical and Petro-

chemical, Pharmaceutical, Food & Beverage, Steel, Energy, Sugar a& Alcohol, Paper & Pulp, Mining, Automotive, Munici-palities and drinking water production. In Brazil, Aquamove produces demineral-ized water via reverse osmosis with ion

Veolia Water Brasil was hired by Petrobras Gas & Energy as a consultant and for the operation of the UTE Thermoelectric Plant - Luis Carlos Prestes, in Três Lagoas, Mato Grosso do Sul. With a timeline of 12 months, the contract encompasses consult-ing in service supply and operations support for the water treatment station, ongoing operations and the performance of physical-chemical tests.

“For this same unit we closed another contract of service supply for the processing of demineral-ized water to implement the combined cycle of UTE Thermoelectric Plant - Luis Carlos Prestes, also for 12 months”, added Ralph Gomes, Commercial Solutions Manager.

Another achievement of Veolia was the contract with Advanced Electronic Technology National Center (CEITEC), which works as an operational branch for the business development and implementa-tion in the microelectronic industry, including IC integrated projects and the manufacturing of chips. The contract with Veolia includes the “sanitation” service supply of its installations for the production of ultrapure water, as well as the renting of a reverse osmosis system during the “sanitation” period and the renting of systems for water pre-treatment.

Recovering businesses - Gomes also highlights anoth-er market in which Veolia has been investing and growing. “Some jobs have been developed with S&P in the marketing of Spare Parts. The goal is customer loyalty for those which already have installed VWS equipment and which, for some reason, decided not to buy spare items - spare parts”, explains the Commercial Manager.

It is the case of Novo Nordisk, a global company in health care and world leader in diabetes treatment. This company bought the first Orion purified water equipment sold by Veolia in Brazil and then, after some years, bought again some membranes, activat-ed coal and filters for its pre-treatment.

“We are working to increase our sales of spare parts and one of our initiatives is to look for companies which bought Veolia equipment years ago in order to offer them spare parts and customer assistance. Thus, we keep an inventory of parts that would satis-fy our customers in a shorter term, besides offering the support of Technical Assistance in the analysis of equipment and all technical support for the product”, concludes Ralph Gomes.

Veolia Water Brasil took advan-tage of the XXI Latin American Microbiology Congress (XXI ALAM) to present the solutions systems of the Elga Labwater line focusing on water purifi-cation systems for laborato-ries. The Congress took place between October 28 and Novem-ber 1, at the Mendes Convention Center, in Santos, São Paulo.

Among the participants were

Latin American and National universities and laboratories. Most of the visitors of the Veolia stand were professionals from Brazilian universities, mainly from the Northeast, interested in knowing the Elga line.

“We sent a wide variety of equip-ment to be shown at the stand and there was a huge curiosity from the participants to know how they work. Veolia partici-

pation was crucial because it is a market to be explored more aggressively due to exist-ing demand and the old age of equipment”, said Humberto Bufalo, Elga Business Develop-ment Manager. www.sbmicrobiologia.org.br/latino/
