Saludos Everyone!

Hope all you guys are fine!!

Welcome to this first issue, the pilot, the beginning from Vents Magazine. And what way to begin

with a coverage of some of the most awesome events from Warped Tour to the Mae at The Roxy,

passing by the Revolution Fest 2 to The Struggle of being young, which for all of us who assist to

each show from Rae Ann to Jon Ramirez and even myself, we had a great time.

So, for the next 60 something pages you would have the privilege to enjoy some of those shows we

assist, from interviews, reviews and even Live Pictures which you could see more of them at our

Facebook or Myspace page.

As well, there are 2 CDs we really recommend you to have it at our CDs Review, also we have the

end of the contest who started in our sister magazine “HopeWhen” called War Of The Bands.

And to end this magazine we have a short interview and a short review from a awesome San Diego

based band We Shoot The Moon, our hoster of the month.

So sit down and prepare to read, and also something really cool maybe many from you guys may

not know, all links are clickable, that means you can listen and check any of the bands, links and

even banners are shows banner like the one it is next to me are clickable. So, if you want to check

the bands and shows, but maybe you are kind of lazy to open a new tab and type the links, don’t

worry, just click and a new window should be open driving you directly to the website of the respec-

tive link or banner you just click!

So hopefully you guys like the magazine, also some of the shows posted in the magazine we are al-

ready planning to cover them, so be sure to go to assist to those shows because they look pretty awe-

some, there’s even one that is free. Also this shows are not just to fill pages, but to also make you

Eight stages, about eighty bands, booths, and hyped up crowds. Thats what you get when you attend one of the hottest

events of the summer. Yes, you got it. Not just any Warped Tour, it’s Van’s Warped Tour’s 15th Anniversary.

Right when I entered the parking space, I heard the mixed sounds of bands playing. The sound gave me some kind of

energy. I came in and saw a huge line of people that was probably two blocks long. Many of them sporting “band

merch” of bands like NOFX, All Time Low, ADTR, and many more.

One particular band I was excited to see was A Day To Remember who played songs from their latest album Home-

sick, my personal favorite being The Downfall of Us All. I remember seeing heads banging like crazy and fans singing

along not getting a word wrong! Another band I enjoyed watching was 3OH!3. The band from Colorado performed

on the main stage this year doing all sorts of crazy things like joining the crowd and pole dancing... Yes, pole dancing.

There were a bunch of other bands that I enjoyed watching. Each having a pumped crowd singing along with their

songs having a blast. But there were a few bands I did not enjoy. But we won’t mention those here.

Warped Tour has always been something I’ve looked forward to once school got out. Specifically the one held at Sea-

side Park, Ventura in my state of California. Another obvious reason I look forward to this tour is of course the music.

I don’t think I can think of anyone that would attend Warped for any other reason. I mean, isn’t Warped Tour mainly

about the music scene? The environment in general is another thing that makes Warped Tour amazing. It’s like a

Disney Land to music lovers. You get entertained by just walking around. You see people just walking around having

a good time. “It’s a music heaven”, says Karah from Palm Springs, CA. You see the craziest looking people with the

craziest hairstyles, and boys in bright pink and baby blue booty shorts with word like “cunt” printed on the rear. I re-

member bumping into a girl with cigarette burns on her arm (not that that’s a good thing).

There were a few downsides to Warped Tour as well, but none of those faults can stop people from attending the tour.

So here a few honest things I personally did not enjoy about Warped. Now, I won’t complain about the ticket prices

(mainly because I didn’t buy one). The whole “warped experience” is worth your $25-30. But one thing I will com-

plain about is all the other stuff. Well now, the clothing/merch sold there isn’t that bad, but the water and food and

whatever else you want “costs more that and arm and leg”. But I came prepared and brought my own water instead.

The weather is another thing but as long as you bring sunscreen and sun glasses you should be fine. Other than that,

Warped is pretty much something to attend.

Dance Gavin Dance

1.How did the band get started?

This question is hard to answer because only two of the members that started the first incarnation are

still in the band so technically this question has really no meaning.

2. What's the main thing you guys want to transmit with your music (what's your massage)?

Some of us would like to transmit sexual diseases; some of us like to talk about breaking up with our

girlfriend; some of us like to poke fun at funny scene kids; some of us like to get funked up. The "mas-

sage" is just good music.

3. What's your method when you write a song?

Usually we jam on a cover and then just write our own words over it.

4. What is your inspiration when you write a song?

Michael Jackson's doctor

5. What's the meaning of your album “Happiness”?

Life is shitty and fucked up and happiness is not some eternal bliss that you find, it is little tiny mo-

ments that brighten our otherwise dark and shit-filled lives. This is a positive statement, whether you

see that or not.

Page 9: Vents Magazine 1st issue

6. Who are your music Influences?

Crabcore, Breakdowns, Underoath, Chidodos, As I Lay Lying, Neener neeners, jud juds and Jude

Law.

7. What do you guys do when you are not on tour?

Enjoy the medicinal perks of living in the best place in the world by far, California. It's better than

any state, country, nation, whatever.

8. With which band would you love to share a stage with?

P.O.S.

9. Which is the album you guys can't stop listening to?

We all listen to the same albums because we're all clones; whatever is in the Top 40. We don’t listen to

albums, just singles on the radio.

10. What are your future plans?

Break up eventually

Lovehatehero

1. How did the band get started?

It was early 2004, a bunch of our local bands had broken up and we were all looking for some-

thing new to do, so we started what would become LoveHateHero.

2. What's the main thing you guys want to transmit with your music (what's your message)?

Usually the Messages are positive like "Stick together,” or “don’t become a drug addict”). I

don’t pre-meditate what the song will deliver as a message; I just get inspired and go from

there.

3. What's your method when you write a song?

The music is written with Kevin playing acoustic guitar and I'll hum along a melody then put

lyrics to it; sometimes in other orders. We'll just get Inspired and write something cool.

4. What is your inspiration when you write a song?

Everything happening around me and my friends; events on the news, something makes me

happy, sad or pissed off. It all is inspiring.

Page 11: Vents Magazine 1st issue

5. What's the meaning of your album “America Underwater”?

America Underwater is the title track, the song is pretty self-explanatory. We live in this country

that’s in the middle of a huge recession, were up to our noses in debt. We can’t find jobs; we have

floods, twisters and wildfires. All of these things knock us off our feet and the song is about helping

each other get back up together.

6. Who are your music Influences?

Everything from led Zeppelin to Coldplay, Saves the Day, to All That Remains.

7. What do you guys do when you are not on tour?

I play video games, go mountain biking, play disc golf, work for cash!

8. With which band would you love to share a stage with?

The list is too long to mention; impossible question.

9. Which is the album you guys can't stop listening to?

Innerparty System

10. What are your future plans?

Get a flying skateboard and travel through time, same as everyone else.

This Century

1. How did the band get started?

Ryan and Sean had been in previous projects together...Alex and I met through our performing arts

high school....Sean and Alex and brothers...it sounds as though it was that simple but somehow it took

almost a year to pull all of us together

2. What's the main thing you guys want to transmit with your music (what's your message)?

We're trying to make people feel good about listening to music...having a good time...uplifting peo-

ple...all that jazz.

3. What's your method when you write a song?

Usually Sean and Alex come up with the skeleton of the song. Then Ryan adjusts the rhythmic ele-

ments...I usually work with Sean on arranging the melody and lyrics. It's definitely a collaborative ef-

fort.

4. What is your inspiration when you write a song?

Inspiration comes from a variety of things, usually a change of scenery or a new relationship...some-

times experiencing a new culture...anything to break out of the box that we sometimes find ourselves

in.

Page 13: Vents Magazine 1st issue

5. What's the meaning of your album “To Love and Back”?

To Love and Back is about the cyclical nature of love...finding it, falling out of it, finding it again

6. Who are your music Influences?

All the big Brit pop bands, big fans of Genesis, and King Crimson, not sure that those influences are

apparent in the music but they're there.

7. What do you guys do when you are not on tour?

Write more songs, an occasional movie or two...we don't like to get too comfortable.

8. With which band would you love to share a stage with?

Coldplay, Radiohead, Kings of Leon....any of those three would probably make our quarter centuries.

9. Which is the album you guys can't stop listening to?

Kings of Leon - Only By the Night.

10. What are your future plans?

Touring relentlessly on our new EP and writing a full length. We hope to see that come out in the

summer time

What's the band name meaning?

Nick – There’s a term in England were you describe something as ‘a load of old tat’, meaning a load

of rubbish, useless crap, something you couldn’t even give away. That’s us.

1. How the band Start??

Nick – Tatiana rang me after being given my number from a friend. She had a load of songs and was

putting a band together. I knew Jake from college and we all seemed to gel pretty well.

2. What's the main thing you guys want to transmit with your music (what’s your message)??

Tatiana – there isn’t really a distinct message. I’m honest in my songwriting and just present what I

feel and what I think which varies from topic to topic. I think bands who start to try and convey a

specific message often get pigeon holed too easily or bore their audience by preaching too much.

3. What's your method when you guys going to write a song??

Tatiana – I don’t really have a method. The first album is made up of songs I wrote predominantly

alone in my bedroom just playing guitar and letting it all out.

Since then I personally and us as a unit have tried a bunch of different methods to shake things up

and do things differently. It’s amazing how differently things come out when you start on a different

instrument or just try different methods.

Nick – The ways we do things now is we all work on ideas separately and then bring them together

and jam them together to work on them.

4. Which is your inspiration at the time to write a song??

Tatiana – depends on the song

TAT

Page 15: Vents Magazine 1st issue

5. What’s the meaning of your album Soho Light??

Nick – The album title came from a song that didn’t make the album. Soho is a place in London where we

all hang out, where we rehearse and stuff, so it’s kind of where the music was kinda ‘born’.

6. What are your music Influences?

Nick – We take influences from everywhere. I listen to a lot of Metal and hard rock but then I listen to a

lot of jazz as well.

Tatiana– Everything under the sun to everything in the shade.

7. What you guys do when you are not in tour??

Nick – we prepare for the next one. It’s all about being ready in this game.

8. With which band you guy would love to share stage??

Nick – The Cheeky Girls, they can just dance around and have things thrown at them.

Tatiana – I would have loved to share the stage with The Clash - generic choice I know, but it’s generic for

a reason.

9. Which is the album you guys can't stop to listen or "song" if you guys don't have album??

Nick – It was Metallica’s Death Magnetic for a while. Good to see them back to their old ways.

Tatiana – today… I went back to Smashing Pumpkins – Rat in a Cage

10. What plans you guys are making for the future??

Nick - We’re writing our second album as we speak and will hopefully have it out early next year.

Tatiana – I’m banking on summer/ fall ish.

11. Which country would you always dream to play or visit??

Nick – Japan was on the list, and we’re glad to say that we’re going to tick that box in November when we

go there to tour and promote Soho Lights out there.

Tatiana – I second Japan.

12. Which has been the greatest day in the life of all of you guys??

Nick – When Obama called a Kanye West jackass, Funny.

13. Which are your hobbies??

Nick – Tractor pulling. Love it.

14. Are you OK, like the band is going now??

Nick – Eh?

15. If you guys were on a tour or on the road and your Van stop to work and you guys get stranded in the

middle of nowhere and the closest Gas station is 55 miles away, who would you guys send to walk to that

distance for help?

Nick - It would be me. I walk the fastest; I’m always in a rush to get places anyway so yeah me.

Tatiana - Yup.

Page 16: Vents Magazine 1st issue

16. And while you guys wait, there's no food and the only way to survive is by eating one of you guys, who

would you eat first?

Tatiana – Jake. No doubt.

17. Bands usually make pranks one another, have you guys been or took part of while on tour and can you

tell us more about it?

Nick – Jake sticks his arse on my face a lot when I sleep. He’s a great mate.

18. If you were walking down or up the street, playing a show or something, and in the middle of it,

SpongeBob come to you and punch you out, which would be your first word or conjunction?

Nick – Is the Hoff really 90 feet tall?

Tatiana – is that cheese?

19. Have you ever fall from a stage?

Nick – No, fallen over, yes.

Tatiana – No, but done some fucking stupid things and got hurt a lot.

The Thrifters

What's the band meaning?

We love shopping at thrift stores and the whole environment that surrounds them so it fit perfectly for us.

1. How the band Start??

We started jamming cover songs back in grade school and playing in front of everyone and eventually just

started writing our own songs shortly after that. We would shift the lineup according to who wanted to be

in the band and what fit best until we found something that stuck.

2. What's the main thing you guys want to transmit with your music (what’s your massage)??

I think the big thing is just to have fun and love what you're doing. And always ALWAYS wear protection.

3. What's your method when you guys going to write a song??

Usually we'll write the guitar parts first then come in with vocals after. However, I've actually started writ-

ing songs and writing l the melodies first then building the song around that. I feel it allows the lyrics and

melodies to flow the way they were meant to.

4. Which is your inspiration at the time to write a song??

For my own personal experience it's when I'm either really bored or really bummed. I feel like I write bet-

ter when something's bothering me, then while writing it completely changes that!

5. What’s the meaning of your album “It’s going down”??

We just LOVE going down ;)

6. What are your music Influences?

Everybody has their own influences. I (Steve) am influenced strongly by pop punk, frank is an indie guy,

Colin is all metal, Sergio is r&b, and Chris is polka and anything involving men sweating on stage... He's

really weird.

Page 18: Vents Magazine 1st issue

7. What you guys do when you are not in tour??

Work and save up money for the next tour, write new songs, and play local shows. Henke, again, likes

spending time with men for some reason

8. With which band you guys would love to share stage??

I, personally, would LOVE to share the stage with blink-182 because they are my all time favorite band. I

know everyone else has their own answers but who cares about them, right? This is Steve time ;)

9. Which is the album you guys can't stop to listen or "song" if you guys don't have album??

Hmmm. I'll alwayssss take a blink song over anything. However, I've been really into the song "mutiny"

by set your goals and "fireflies" by owl city. Also, "Jasey Rae" by all time low is a personal favorite.

Again, this is Steve time so I'm kind of speaking for myself here.

10. What plans you guys are making for the future??

Right now we are lying low and writing about 14 songs and putting out a 6 or 7 songs Ep by late winter.

Hopefully touring extensively after that and taking over the world.

Henke plans on meeting more men.

11. Which country would you always dream to play or visit??

I'd like to play in Canada because it'd be fun and we could drink and get retardedddddd after the shows.

12. Which has been the greatest day in the life of all of you guys??

I'd say for me, the greatest day was the day of my birth. Because without me entering this world we'd all

be screwed.

13. Which are your hobbies??

Henke loves giving massages, Colin loves styling hair for girls going to like homecoming and the prom,

frank loves writing music and skateboarding, Sergio does a lot of artwork on the computer, and I like run-

ning marathons, winning beauty contests; and playing the drums. We all like touring as well.

14. Are you OK, like the band is going now??

We are ok... But, not really; we’re all really crazy and have to see many doctors and swallow many pills

every day. It's sad.

15. If you guys were on a tour or on the road and your Van stop to work and you guys get stranded in the

middle of nowhere and the closest Gas station is 55 miles away, who would you guys send to walk to that

distance for help?

This actually happened and we sent our roadie, Brian Russ. He made it halfway, and then turned around.

Who does that?

16. And while you guys wait, there's no food and the only way to survive is by eating one of you guys, who

would you eat first?

Well Henke is always equipped with a ton of sausage and I love me sone meat so I'm going to have to say

Chris Henke. It's a man eat man world out there on the road so I'm just fighting for myself... Don't judge.

Page 19: Vents Magazine 1st issue

17. Bands usually make pranks one another, have you guys been or took part of while on tour and can you

tell us more about it?

I like to personally get naked and jump on the members of the band when they least expect it. It's very

awkward and potentially dangerous for the other members of the band because I'm hung like nobody's

business... Want to see?

18. If you were walking down or up the street, playing a show or something, and in the middle of it,

SpongeBob come to you and punch you out, which would be your first word or conjunction?

Conjunction junction what's your function... I'm not sure what this question is asking, however, when all

else fails, urinating on SpongeBob should shut him the f*** up ;)

19. Have you ever fall from a stage?

We actually had an incident when Henke tried to do a double Arial back flip off his amp onto the stage....

However, he couldn't climb on his amp due to gross sexual reasons I'd rather not get into.

20. What you like most of Warped this year?

I loved the food! Yummy! No but seriously the warped tour was the most fun thing I've ever done and I to-

tally want to do the whole thing next year. Everybody involved is awesome and it's something I've been at-

tending for many many years so finally being involved in it is a dream come true.

The Scenic!

What's the band’s name meaning?

To travel the world; bringing the rock.

1. How the band Start??

The Scenic as is it known currently started in December 2007/January 2008 with Jeremy Menard (vocals),

Jake Sciscio and Dan Wolf (guitar), Frank Romantino (bass), and Shane Reynolds (drums). Dan Wolf

parted ways with the band in March of 2009 and was replaced with Zach Andresen.

2. What's the main thing you guys want to transmit with your music (what' s your massage)??

We want to deliver catchy and fun songs that you will be singing over and over.

3. What's your method when you guys going to write a song??

Jeremy, Jake, or Zach will have an idea on guitar or vocally, and we will work around that.

4. Which is your inspiration at the time to write a song??

Just life in general and the personal mood at the time; we’ve created great dynamics with the different

style of songs we have been writing. The songs come out based on how we feel when we write, or the vibe

we get from a new idea.

5. What’s the meaning of your album “Find Yourself here”??

The recording of our album, "Find Yourself here" was an awkward time for all of us really. We were all at

a different points in our lives. Whether it is starting school, finishing school, starting a career, etc, we all

came together and decided that playing music is what we wanted to do.

Page 21: Vents Magazine 1st issue

6. What are your music Influences?

Our influences include anywhere from Classic Rock, to Jazz, to Pop. We love bands like Third Eye Blind,

Brand New, Led Zeppelin, Sigur Ros, Weezer, Nirvana, Everclear, Smashing Pumpkins, Black Sabbath,

Michael Jackson, etc. So we have a huge list of bands that have inspired our music.

7. What you guys do when you are not in tour??

Some of us have girlfriends that we try to see as often as possible when we're not on the road. Spending

time with friends and family is definitely something we try to do while we're home. And of course, working

and earning a few extra bucks is a plus.

8. With which band you guys would love to share stage??

Any of our influences would be a dream to share a stage with, but my dream would probably have to be

Third Eye Blind or Weezer. (- Jake Sciscio)

9. Which is the album you guys can't stop to listen or "song" if you guys don't have album??

We play a lot of Weezer in the van, primarily the blue album and Pinkerton. Other mainstays are Brand

New's Déjà Entendu

10. What plans you guys are making for the future??

We are currently writing material for a new album due to come out in 2010. A long list of tour dates

around the United States will follow the release of our CD.

11. Which country would you always dream to play or visit??

Japan has always been a favorite of ours. It'd be a dream to tour there. But we'd love to tour anywhere, to

see the rest of world would be an amazing experience.

12. Which has been the greatest day in the life of all of you guys??

13. Which are your hobbies??

Jeremy is an artist (painting), Jake builds stuff, Shane is a Pilot, Zach hangs, and Frank plays a lot of

Xbox.

14. Are you OK, like the band is going now??

So far, stuff with the band has been going great. We're excited to record the new material; it blows the old

stuff out of the water!

15. If you guys were on a tour or on the road and your Van stop to work and you guys get stranded in the

middle of nowhere and the closest Gas station is 55 miles away, who would you guys send to walk to that

distance for help?

Jeremy, Zach, or Jake would probably walk to get help. Shane and Frank would stay by the van to flag

down help, haha.

Page 22: Vents Magazine 1st issue

16. And while you guys wait, there's no food and the only way to survive is by eating one of you guys, who

would you eat first?

I would eat Frank first. (- Jake)

I would eat Frank (- everyone, including Frank)

17.Bands usually make pranks one another, have you guys been or took part of while on tour and can you

tell us more about it?

We don't really do the prank thing, but Jeremy put a dead fish in another band's van engine area. It

smelled for a few weeks, haha. But they got us back a few months later when we saw them again by put-

ting chocolate and cookie crumbs all over and inside our van.

18. If you were walking down or up the street, playing a show or something, and in the middle of it,

SpongeBob come to you and punch you out, which would be your first word or conjunction?

I'd sing to him, " Ohhh, who lives in a Pineapple under da sea?!"

19. Have you ever fall from a stage?

Haha, yes, Jeremy has fallen directly off stage and landed in the crowd, hitting a girl in the face with his

microphone. And Jake took a fall by tripping over his guitar chord.

20. What you like most of Warped this year?

Seeing Thrice play live (- Jake)

Seeing Underoath play live (-Frank)

Making out with Lights (-Zach)

Hanging with the Ataris (-Shane)

Making out with Jeffree Star (-Jeremy)

The Pilots

1. How the band Start??

The Pilots grew out of a high school band that Andy our drummer and I were in. It was called Quad Pod.

We weren't very good.

2. What's the main thing you guys want to transmit with your music (what’s your massage)?

We don't really a message. We just love to play music that’s good.

3. What’s your method when you guys going to write a song?? Rick usually writes most of it, musically

and lyrically, then brings it in, and then all of us work on it together and get it nailed down. It’s cool be-

cause by the time we're done, the song has a unique feel that it wouldn't have otherwise.

4. Which is your inspiration at the time to write a song??

Usually it’s just something going on with one of my friends or something I'm thinking about. The song

Now You're Gone for example, is about a man whose wife has died, and he’s left to carry on without her,

raise a son etc. That song came about one night when Colleen, my girlfriend was sick, and I was thinking

of how horrid it would be to lose her.

5. What's the meaning of your album “Playing Pretend”??

Playing Pretend, all the songs on it are fictional stories; thus the name Playing Pretend.

6. What are your music Influences?

We all come from very different musical backgrounds, Pop Rock, College Rock, Indy, Euro Rock Etc. I

think that's where are unique sound comes from; the blending of all our influences. There really is a piece

of everyone in each song.

Page 24: Vents Magazine 1st issue

7. What you guys do when you are not in tour??

We live to Frolf. Also, each of us has a bottle cap collection. So that keeps us on our toes. We often have ar-

guments over whose collection is the best.

8. With which band you guys would love to share stage??

Any band that would draw a big crowd that we could leach off their success.

9. Which is the album you guys can't stop to listen or "song" if you guys don't have album??

Label Jars Pt 2, it has an awesome Wah solo. Way to go Craig

10. What plans you guys are making for the future??

We would really like to get signed to a label and perhaps make some money. We are desperate for the

moneys.

11. Which country would you always dream to play or visit??

England

12. Which are your hobbies??

Bottle Cap Collection Baby!

13. Are you OK, like the band is going now??

We love our direction. We're getting settled in, playing shows frequently, building a fan base and hopefully

maybe someday a tour.

14. If you guys were on a tour or on the road and your Van stop to work and you guys get stranded in the

middle of nowhere and the closest Gas station is 55 miles away, who would you guys send to walk to that

distance for help? I think we'd just light the van on fire, and collect the insurance money. That way no one

would have to go.

15. And while you guys wait, there's no food and the only way to survive is by eating one of you guys, who

would you eat first? Since we burned the van down, we could use the smoke to signal a pizza guy.

16. Bands usually make pranks one another, have you guys been or took part of while on tour and can you

tell us more about it? One time we lit Alex on fire while he was asleep. It was hilarious.

18. If you were walking down or up the street, playing a show or something, and in the middle of it,

Zombie at Heart

Question: What's the band meaning? I was actually going to get "zombie at heart" as a tattoo, but when

I started this band I thought it would be a cool name.

1. How the band Start?? ZAH started with my friend 'BrennanZAH' writing lyrics and me putting

them to acoustic guitar. It just kinda started building from there.

2. What's the main thing you guys want to transmit with your music (what’s your massage)?? We just

love music and so it just seemed right to go for it. As far as a message, I guess it's 'do whatever the F***

you want, but make sure you have a blast doing it. Haha

3. What's your method when you guys going to write a song?? I just sit down and play guitar when I’m

not busy and I play until I find some stuff I like. Then I can build it all together with the lyrics.

4. Which is your inspiration at the time to write a song?? Well writing lyrics is tough for me so Brennan-

ZAH is usually the one that writes them; although I did write all the lyrics for the new EP 'v-necks and

g-strings'.

5. What’s the meaning of your album “V-necks and G-strings”?? Haha Just two clothing items I wear

frequently.

6. What are your music Influences? I listen to mellow acoustic stuff, hardcore and I especially love R&B.

I have to say Hit the Lights is my favorite band of all time. i look up to those guys as musicians, perform-

ers and just people overall.

great bands but, mark my words; we WILL be on tour with Hit the Lights one day... and Elton John.

13. Which are your hobbies?? Eating and sleeping mostly.

14. Are you OK, like the band is going now?? Yeah but I wish I didn't have to be in school right now. I

middle of nowhere and the closest Gas station is 55 miles away, who would you guys send to walk to that

distance for help? Definitely the merch guy; ha and I’d make him carry me the whole way.

16. And while you guys wait, there's no food and the only way to survive is by eating one of you guys, who

would you eat first?

We’d probably just wander around like zombies.

17. Bands usually make pranks one another, have you guys been or took part of while on tour and can you

tell us more about it? naw... we just fart on each other a lot

18.If you were walking down or up the street, playing a show or something, and in the middle of it,

SpongeBob come to you and punch you out, which would be your first word or conjunction? SPONGE-

BOB!?!

19. Have you ever fall from a stage? No but I’m sure it'll happen.

A Current Affair

What's the band meaning?

We got the band name while watching the movie Dumb and Dumber. The news show that interviewed the

blind kid was called A Current Affair

1. How the band Start??

Josh and I went to high school together, and I knew James from Junior High. Me and Josh were jamming

with some other guys for a while, and then James joined when we graduated. We met Jordan on MySpace,

and he eventually joined in 2006, and that's when the band officially started I guess. Nick joined last No-

vember when our drummer quit, and here we are!

2. What's the main thing you guys want to transmit with your music (what’s your massage)??

Our biggest goal is to make music that is going to have a positive influence on people.

3. What's your method when you guys going to write a song??

Usually, Josh will come up with the initial idea and then work on it with Jordan. Then they will bring the

idea to practice and the rest of us help build the song from there.

4. Which is your inspiration at the time to write a song??

Jordan writes all the lyrics, and they are based on all different things. It all depends on what sparks his in-

terest at the time.

5. What’s the meaning of your Ep “The Real Devastation”??

The Real Devastation is based on how each choice we make has a different outcome, and how the choices

we make in our lives can cause our own devastation.

Page 30: Vents Magazine 1st issue

6. What are your music Influences?

Each member listens to different stuff, but the main influences are probably Jimmy Eat World, The Clas-

sic Crime, Story of the Year, and The Wedding.

7. What you guys do when you are not in tour??

We really don't do much. We are all bums, and we pretty much spend time practicing and hanging out

with our families when we aren't on tour.

8. With which band you guys would love to share stage??

Probably Jimmy Eat World or Paramore.

9. Which is the album you guys can't stop to listen or "song" if you guys don't have album??

Lately, we have been listening to the new cd by The Devil Wears Prada. That thing is amazing!

10. What plans you guys are making for the future??

Since the new CD is finally out, we are just hoping for the best and doing everything we can to take this to

the next level. We are just going to keep working hard and see where it takes us.

11. Which country would you always dream to play or visit??

Probably anything in Europe; I have heard that shows there are crazy.

12. Which has been the greatest day in the life of all of you guys??

Probably having the new CD come out; we felt like we finally captured our sound and put out the music

we have always wanted to make.

13. Which are your hobbies??

All the guys are into different things, but I'm a closet gamer. I like sports video games, and COD every

now and again. I'm terrible though.

14. Are you OK, like the band is going now??

I feel like the direction we are headed is great, we just need to get our music in the hands of the right peo-

ple to take that next step and to further our exposure I guess.

15. If you guys were on a tour or on the road and your Van stop to work and you guys get stranded in the

middle of nowhere and the closest Gas station is 55 miles away, who would you guys send to walk to that

distance for help?

Well, if we had to send anyone, it would be Josh. However, Josh used to own a roadside assistance busi-

ness, so he might be able to fix our van!

16. And while you guys wait, there's no food and the only way to survive is by eating one of you guys, who

would you eat first?

It would probably end up being me that got eaten.

Page 31: Vents Magazine 1st issue

17. Bands usually make pranks one another, have you guys been or took part of while on tour and can you

tell us more about it?

We aren't very good at pranks, but we have had tons of crickets thrown into our van, and been locked in a

small room with 2 other bands while the headlining band played so we wouldn’t mess up their set. That’s

just to name a few.

18. If you were walking down or up the street, playing a show or something, and in the middle of it,

SpongeBob come to you and punch you out, which would be your first word or conjunction?

Aye Aye Captain.

19. Have you ever fall from a stage?

Not off the stage, but I have tripped on stage a few times.

20. What you like most of Warped this year?

Well, we only played the Fresno date on Warped Tour, but the bands were awesome, and the kids were re-

ally cool. We hope we get to do it next year too, and for more dates!

Longway

What's the band meaning?

I think Longway is kind of like doing everything the hard way in

life... No short cuts no easy way out. Once you’re in... Your in.

1. How the band Start??

I had played in other peoples bands off and on for years... But it was

never really what I wanted and I knew I wanted to write my own songs.

So I started writing songs and came up with a name... Then found some

guys to play with. Now here we are (a lot happened in the middle)

2. What’s the main thing you guys want to transmit with your music

(what’s your massage)??

I don't know if we have a message... I think we play kick ass music that

the listener doesn't have to think about and figure out. Music that

reminds them of a better time when life was simpler, punk rock was punk

rock, and the whole world was so over saturated and commercialized. I

think people relate to the songs... So maybe the message is that we're

just like you... And these are your songs as much as they are ours.

3. What's your method when you guys going to write a song??

I usually come in with the basic structure, music, and lyrics for the

song... Then we play it together and see what sounds good... what

doesn't... and we just keep playing it until it sound complete and

everyone’s cool with it.

Page 33: Vents Magazine 1st issue

4. Which is your inspiration at the time to write a song??

I come up with melodies a lot when I'm driving or just walking around..

I'll sing something in my head for days sometimes before I can actually

get to guitar to start writing music... Sometimes just a little thing

will pop in my head and I'll spend a couple hours with my acoustic and

it will come out completely different but awesome... Sometimes a song

will come out of nowhere and write it's self in 10 mins. Other times

I'll work on something for hours and it will go nowhere. I don't really

have a method... It just comes out or it doesn't.

5. What’s the meaning of your album “Junkie”??

I think Junkie is jam packed with what I like to call anti love songs...

Songs about events that have jacked up my life over the last few years.

But it also branches off... from a song about a crazy person with split

personalities... to a song I wrote over 5 years ago about my grandmother

dying. I think it's just songs about real life.

6. What are your music Influences?

I think everyone in the band has different influences and different

bands that got them into playing music... Mine range from bands like

Nirvana, Social Distortion, Welt, Los Infernos, all the way to bands

like Soul Asylum and Suzanne Vega. It’s really hard to make a list... Plus

different bands have influenced me at different times of my life and

career.

7. What you guys do when you are not in tour??

Try to book more tours... That’s really what we like and want to do is

tour... unfortunately we all work real jobs when we're home to try to

pay the rent. But we never stop doing band stuff and working on

whatever our next project is.

8. With which band you guys would love to share stage??

I think there's a lot of bands we would like to play with... we've

already played with a lot of them... and I think that everyone in the

band has a different band that would be there dream band to play with..

I'd like to play with Social D and Rancid... But there are a lot of

bands that we'd really like to play with and tour with... we could make

a huge list... but I think those would be the main ones that we've

never done a show with... at least for me.

9. Which is the album you guys can't stop to listen or "song" if you

guys don't have album??

On the road we kind of take the iPod and put it on shuffle.. I think

this summer we listened to a lot of Anti Flag, The Architects, The

Creep Show, Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards, a whole bunch of bands...

No one band in particular.

Page 34: Vents Magazine 1st issue

10. What plans you guys are making for the future??

We hope to make it out to Europe early next year... We’d like to do

Warped Tour in the states again next summer... really just to keep

touring and promote this new album as much as possible... And play in

front of as many people as possible.

11. Which country would you always dream to play or visit??

I think Europe in general, and Japan is top on our list... We really

like Canada too but we've already been there and intend to go back...

12. Which has been the greatest day in the life of all of you guys??

That's tough to say... Playing in front of 2,000 people in Hawaii with

Bad Religion was pretty cool... this summer on Warped Tour we played to

a huge and awesome crowd in Calgary, Canada... It was a rad moment when

were in Alaska Playing with Agent Orange and found out we were getting

our first full run on Warped Tour... we have really great memories from

touring with the HorrorPops; Hard to say.

13. Which are your hobbies??

I think regular life at home is like a hobby for us... we like to dabble

in it... But we wouldn't want to do it for a living.

14. Are you OK, like the band is going now??

Yeah I think the band is doing great... but of course we'd like to get

bigger and we will as long as we keep working in the direction we're

going now.

15. If you guys were on a tour or on the road and your Van stop to work

and you guys get stranded in the middle of nowhere and the closest Gas

station is 55 miles away, who would you guys send to walk to that

distance for help? Our Bass Player because he's new… or one of us would go with him, but

he'd have to carry us on his back.

16. And while you guys wait, there's no food and the only way to survive

is by eating one of you guys, who would you eat first? I take it back... we'll eat the bass player... I'll walk

and just grab something to eat at the gas station.

17. Bands usually make pranks one another, have you guys been or took

part of while on tour and can you tell us more about it? We put sugar on the HorrorPops drums before

their set... (They did it to us first)... The Drummer from Far From Finished pissed on the door

handle of our van...And I think I threw a firecracker at his face...

We also liked throwing things at each others vans and setting off fire

extinguishers while flying down the highway...

Page 35: Vents Magazine 1st issue

18.If you were walking down or up the street, playing a show or

something, and in the middle of it, SpongeBob come to you and punch

you out, which would be your first word or conjunction?

I would say... damn you're hands are soft... soft like a sponge... then I

would take out my switchblade and cut him into little pieces.

19. Have you ever fall from a stage? No but I'm sure our guitar player Trevor has a couple times.

20. What you like most of Warped this year?

Warped Tour is just awesome all the way around... it's the only place

that crazy people like people in bands can feel like their home... I

understand why people join traveling circuses. You're in a new place

every day but it looks and feels the same... It’s like if you lived in a

small town where every knows each other... and every day they picked up

your whole town and put it in a new place... it wouldn't matter where

they put you.. You’d still be in your town with the people you know...

it would look the same... feel the same... you'd still be home. Not to

mention your town is full of people who are doing the same thing you

are with the same dreams you have... along with some of the best bands

on the planet.

Forever The Sickest Kids

While at Van's Warped Tour, I was fortunate enough to take in and get my tongue stuck in some ice cream

and hang with two members of Forever The Sickest Kids. A pop-punk band hailing from Dallas, Texas.

It was a great way to start my Warped Tour day.

RV: Introduce yourselves!

Austin: I’m austin bellow, and i play bass and sing in forever the sickest kids!

Mark: And my name is mark stewart and i play guitar!

RV: Sweet, so its your guys third time playing at warped tour yeah?

Austin: That is correct!

RV: Do you think that this year is better than the last two?

Mark: I think there’s a different vibe. like this year there’s only one main stage, there’s less bands on it,

its uh, it rained a lot this year too!

Austin: Ha ha yeah it did.

Mark: Yeah so that was nice, to cool it down and everything.

Austin: Something thats always the same on warped tour, is that every band is kind of for every band you

know? there excited when other bands do well, its a family.

RV: Some huge family ha ha. So I heard you guys are making three “mini” albums!

Mark: That is correct.

Austin: We are!

Page 42: Vents Magazine 1st issue

RV: Why “mini” instead of just putting it all together, like on one super huge album?

Austin: We had the idea, like you notice that kids are ADD just like we are and they want to hear music

fast, so if we can release one every three months, we feel like thats a better thing then like just all at once.

So thats there’s like always stuff coming.

RV: Ha ha just keep it coming.

Mark: Just keepin’ it coming! Its just gonna be like how we feel at the time, you know, thats how we

write, just through our emotions and what we’ve been through.

RV: For sure. Uh, where am I... Oh okay, so you guys recently released your album “underdog alma

mater” yeah? Twenty-nine songs and a dvd!

Austin: Deluxe Edition!

RV: Ha ha so tell me... Why do YOU personally think people should go out and buy it?

Austin: The deluxe edition... We put all of the tracks. Like you hear the twelve songs, the deluxe edition

is kind of hearing the demos of those twelve songs and other songs that we (*burp) did previously, so its

kind of like the history of before “underdog alma mater”.

Mark: Ha ha, the history.

RV: I haven’t bought it yet, but i think I will now ha ha!

Austin: Ha ha do it!

RV: So do you guys have any big plans after warped tour? Or are you guys just gonna chill and relax.

Mark: We don’t really relax much. We’re gonna go home and write for the next album, and then after

that we are going on our very first headliner! Us, rocket summer, sing it loud, my favorite highway, know

what i’m sayin’?

Austin: Gonna be a good tour!

RV: Sweet! So, I’ve got some random questions. What are like the weirdest things you guys have ever

signed? Like any strange signing experiences?

Austin: I have signed a mothers baby.... on the face.

RV: laughs*

Austin: yeah it was crazy ha ha!

mark: A spine...

RV: A spine.... Yeah right (with sarcasm) ha ha!

Page 43: Vents Magazine 1st issue

Mark: Like an exposed spine ha ha!

Austin: laughs*

Mark: Like on the bone, it was crazy!

RV: Ha ha yeah... no. I don’t believe it ha ha!

Mark: yeah!!

RV: Umm okay sure, next question! If you guys were stranded on an island, which one of you guys would

likely be eaten first?

Austin: Like who would we eat out of the band?

Mark: KYLE!

Austin: NOT KYLE! Ha ha he’s pretty skinny... Uh, Kaleb is big! He’s got a lot of muscle!

Overall the show was fun the croweds energy was all there and the music was clean

and easy to hear, MAE played very Solid both vocally & musically The performance

was fun to watch with the mix of the band and the Visuals they had projected on the

wall behind them. The 3d glasses added another trip to the whole experience getting

to watch the band along with the visuals and music sent me off in to another world! I

defiantly enjoyed this performance and getting to hear new songs and old hits too!

It’s a good thing that MAE is playing for a good cause! I wish the guys best of luck

and stay positive in everything going for them!

Interview

1. Which is the meaning behind your three mini albums: Morning, afternoon and evening?

To check out the answer and some live footage, click the link below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ust9E7hozgU

2.How they begin?

Dave & Jacob hung out a lot in college new a lot of the same people, they had there first intense conversation on new

years eve on the millennium. They weren’t even old enough to drink at the time they talked for hours listen to music and

talk about music witch brought them closer then within the course of that year they talked about starting “MAE” even

thou they never written together. They originally had 5 members but 2 of the member settled down and got married and

decided to start a different chapter but for now they have guys filling in the other spots for the road. MAE started out as a

studio project and had an idea of what there live shows would be like and spend time in the studio to see what kind of

sounds they can make. So they took almost a year to write there first record in Virginia the same studio that they are

recording their new cd in now!

What they normally do when they are not in tour?

They don’t really have much free time since they are doing things that are outside of the box and like working on the

project right now were they are putting out a song a month and also having the responsibility of not having a manager or

label directing you were to go and what to do, they have all the job of doing it themselves they are constantly working and

they also own there own record label witch they are on so they are always on the constant go.

Have they been or took part of a prank while they were on tour?

One night when there buddies in another band called “As tall as lions” were playing with MAE and for a prank switched

out there visuals for the background show with a video of lions mating ha-ha the crowed was laughing and the band had

no clue because they were busing looking at the crowed and did not look behind them!

Which are their Hobbies?

Dave and zack are big sports fans, they all like to read and watch Tv on DVD its good for long drives.. Listening to a lot of

music “Pod cast” and long boarding and just trying to soak up as much art as they can.

About 20 bands and on one night; that was what the guys from Eternity Young production an indie show

producer based from Dominican Republic.

I personally was waiting for this show to come from weeks ago; one of the main reasons was because it

would be my first show I would play with my solo project.

The show it was supposed to begin at 5:00pm ET, but it was not a surprised the show began 2 hours later,

the show begins very well, the bands playing at the show were really great, but that great ambient would

not take too long to disappear.

After the second band play, a group of cops decide to just take a look about what was the whole show

about; nothing happens at all, after almost an hour the next band “Athena”, a hardcore band start play-

ing, the ambient it was turning pretty hardcore.

Next to Athena came another band, it was another hardcore band, the ambient now turns pretty hardcore,

but unfortunately the neighbors from the residential next to us at the show and when the band was play-

ing there last song, the neighbors start throwing eggs to the public and the band, then few minutes later

the cops came again, now it was not a look situation, as one of the producers of this show tell us, the show

was cancelled after the police threat the sound guy of taking all his stuff like amplifiers, sound system, etc.

as well as take to jail to the band that play. So for that reason a bunch of bands couldn’t play at all, also

the sound was not pretty good in few moments of the show, but at the end after all the bad things, the

bands who did play and in a way even the whole situation makes this show unique and really fun and also

we hope to hear from Revolution Fest 3, probably next time whoever who get in charge may learn of this

two last shows and hopefully make it better, who know…

Last month I went to this awesome event where as the title of the event said, we had

the pleasure to have in the Dominican Republic again to Jeffrey de Leon, a great

conferecist and preacher dedicated to help the youth of now in days.

This was the second time he came at least since I’ve been in the church I am actually,

the first time it blessed me a lot and this second time was not the exception.

From many interesting subjects with a dynamic and entertaining way, there was also

music lead by the International Baptist Church worship group and Puerto 108, the

event was in short words for me and I think for all those who went to this activity

was a time to think, at the same time we had fun and of course: Blessing!

If I had to rate this show I would honestly give 1,000,000 stars.

Page 61: Vents Magazine 1st issue
Page 62: Vents Magazine 1st issue

Which is the Band’s name meaning?

Puerto (port) is a place where arrive many type of people, from different ages and cultures...that same way

is worship in the gospel. The 108 comes from Psalm 108:1.

How the band started?

It was about 2 years and so. Amos and Gabriel, friends since school, started to write music focused in the

word and of the wonders of a God which cannot be avoided.

Which is the message you guys want to transmit?

Christ centric. With an adapted contemporary touch to our days.

Which is your method at the time to write a song?

There’s not a specific method. Although normally it come a main idea (to Amos) which develop very basi-

cally, then he take it to Gabriel for adjustment and production and then the rest of the band put his own

stuff.

Which is the meaning of your EP “Siluetas”?

Siluetas (silhouettes) is the last song at the EP. Siluetas (silhouettes) is what we see of the glory and won-

ders from God, which we will see them in its totality when we arrive to heaven.

Which are your music influences?

Hillsong, Leeland, Anberlin, Building429, U2, Mae, Tenth Avenue North, Planetshakers…

With which band you guys would love to share stage?

We haven’t thought about that really

Which are your hobbies?

Music… That’s our best hobby. Hehehe

Page 63: Vents Magazine 1st issue

Which has been the funniest joke you guys has been or took part?

Leo, our keyboardist, it looks like the most blessed by God with the girls. He doesn’t put any effort to

attract the girls, and although he doesn’t want to, girls come to him. After all our shows we laugh of

how popular he is in the environment. He looks like he doesn’t like all that stuff… He is a little bit

tired of that. Hehehe

Which is the song or album you guys can’t stop to listen?

It depends. We all have different taste of music.

Are you guys Ok, like the band is going now?

More that what we deserve. We are waiting in God for the next year to end recording the new album

and see what HIM have for us.

AWESOMENESS- That’s the first thing I could just said after hearing the first volume from

my favorites either, but the album was gave to me for free and to be reviewed.

So, the next day later after download the album, the day before, I pick all the song carpet and

press play to my Window media player. The first song was from a band I didn’t knew called

Ghostbear, the song it was actually pretty cool, great way to start an album, there was still hope

for this compilation.

Review

InterviewHow did the band start?

I was in a previous band called Waking Ashland that prematurely broke

up. I took a couple of months off from music and decided that I still

had something left to say so I called some people I met in various

circles in Waking Ashland.

What is the main thing you want to transmit with your music (what's your

message)?

Well, we try to keep our message pretty open and positive. A lot of

the songs are themed around the "politics of the heart" and changes

that occur in each of us as we get older.

Page 71: Vents Magazine 1st issue

What is your method when you are going write a song?

I'll think about a topic for awhile or have certain melody that just

keeps coming back and eventually when I feel in a creative mood I'll

sit at the piano and try to capture it musically. A lot of times it

takes me 5-6 times before anything of substance comes. After I write

the initial song I'll take it to the group for further input etc..

Where do you find your inspiration when it comes time to write a song?

The weather is a big player when I'm writing a song. I like writing

songs in the fall or on rainy days.

What is the meaning of your album?

Just seeing the glass half full instead of half empty

Who are your musical Influences?

I like Coldplay, Muse, Jimmy Eat World, Switchfoot, and The Killers.

Those are all new bands that are inspiring to me.

What do you guys do when you are not on tour?

I like to surf a lot, run, and catch up on reading.

Which album can you not stop listening to? What about song?

The Killers Sams Town is incredible. The song “Iris” by the Goo Goo

Dolls always puts me in a reflective mood.

What plans are you guys making for the future?

With A Silver Lining just coming out digitally the plan is to stay on

the road and play as many shows as possible. ASL is a record we fully

believe in and are willing to do anything for.
