El pretérito You already know how to speak in the
present tense. You know one way to speak in the
future… (ir + a + infinitive) Now you need to know how to speak in
the past.
![Page 11: Ven conmigo 2 Capítulo 2. Primer paso - vocabulario Enfermo/a Preocupado/a](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022081511/5528bde6497959977d8fd63a/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
El pretérito There is a whole new set of verb
endings for the past. The tense used to express the simple
past is called the pretérito. (preterite)
![Page 12: Ven conmigo 2 Capítulo 2. Primer paso - vocabulario Enfermo/a Preocupado/a](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022081511/5528bde6497959977d8fd63a/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
The preterite has a whole new set of endings!
Regular –ar verbs Endings: é I amos aste I__X__ ó___I aron_ Ejemplo: hablar hablé I hablamos hablaste I____X___ habló___I hablaron_
Note the difference between the yo form in the present tense (hablo) (I speak) and the él/ella/usted form in the preterite tense (habló) (he/she speaks) is the accent over the o in habló. This is why accents matter!
