Why are the effects on Hydrocarbons a good measure of emission success of the ERT Solution?

Emissions that are principal pollutants of concern are Hydrocarbons - A class of burned or partially burned fuel. Hydrocarbons are toxins.

HC = Hydrocarbons, concentration of the exhaust in parts per million (ppm). = Unburned Petrol, represents the amount of unburned fuel due to incomplete combustion exiting through the exhaust. We don't want it, so we try to keep it as low as possible. An approximate relationship between the percentage of wasted fuel through incomplete combustion and the ppm of HC is about 1/200 ( 1.0% partially burned fuel produces 200 ppm HC, 10%=2000 ppm HC, 0.1%=20 ppm HC )

A reduction in Hydrocarbons with the ERT technology applied is showing in basic terms that the petrol is being used more efficiently in its combustion and therefore a reduced amount of unburnt fuel is being released into the atmosphere.

Good combustion is simply put this way: HC + O2 + N2 = H2O + CO2 + N2. Ideally, what we want is to convert all the Fuel and Air that enters the engine in to Water and Nitrogen!

We utilised an independent Vehicle Testing centre to test the emission effect (mainly hydrocarbons) on a range of petrol vehicles before and after the Emission Reduction Technologies' solution was installed in the tested vehicles.

Vehicle 1. Mazda 626 1998

Result 1

Baseline emission test with the car idling for approx. 3 minutes and then the result was taken with no ERT technology connected. Hydrocarbons were 159 parts per million (ppm)

Result 2

Following the idle test another baseline test was performed without the ERT technology connected but with the car holding at 3000 revs for approx. 3 minutes, then the result was taken. Hydrocarbons were 79 ppm.

Emission test with the car idling for approx. 3 minutes and the ERT technology connected, then the result was taken. As an initial idle comparison we can see that the Hydrocarbons have reduced from:

This is a 95.6% reduction in hydrocarbons

Result 4

Following the idle emission test, the car was then held at 3000 revs for approx. 3 minutes with the ERT technology connected, then the result was taken.

This is a 92.4% reduction in hydrocarbons
