THE DEMAND

THE SOLUTION

Vee TIME Corporation, Taiwan’s largest quadruple play service provider, is a specialist in fiber optic broadband, local telephone, and cable television services that also operates VeeTV, a television channel that offers various movies, and CoolBid.com, an online shopping site, among other enter-

prises. As part of their cable business, they needed a large number of high-performance PoE switches to be de-ployed in individual subscriber homes.

When considering which of the three main Taiwanese networking companies vying for this tender to select, Vee TIME identified the following key criteria:

- Size – Vee TIME was looking for the smallest dimensions possible.- Power – For the Ethernet to the Home (ETTH) solution used in this project, power is an important consideration. Vee TIME needed devices that support 48V-DC (0.2A-0.3A). - Power Source Solution - Specifically, Vee TIME preferred a power source configuration in which the PD (Powered Device) is on the Central Office (CO) side and the PSE (Power Sourcing Equipment) is on the user side.

After extensive testing, Vee TIME decided to go with Edge-Core Networks. They purchased 10,000 5-port Fast Ethernet unmanaged PoE PSE switches (ECS2100-05P) and 10,000 8-port managed Layer 2 Fast

Ethernet Standalone PoE PD switches (ECS3510-10PD), with the proviso the 5-port switch is likely to be upsized due to expected market demand.
