About this document

These release notes describe how to install the contents of the Infor ERP VISUAL Enterprise 6.5.4 maintenance release.

These release notes also describe the enhancements and improvements made to Infor ERP VISUAL Enterprise 6.5.4. These release notes are cumulative. They include all changes made to Infor ERP VISUAL Enterprise 6.5.4 from the Service Pack 3 release to the current maintenance release. The table of changes lists the application name, the current application version number, the defect number, a description of the change, and the month and date the change was released.

To be more responsive to your needs regarding bug fixes, we would like to remind you of our maintenance policy. Although you should consult the exact language of your contract, our customary policy is to maintain the current release and one previous release.

Installing the maintenance release

Infor strongly recommends that you install the maintenance release of Infor ERP VISUAL Enterprise 6.5.4 in a test environment for evaluation prior to updating the production environment.

To install the patch:

1 From the disk or directory where you downloaded the maintenance release, double-click Setup.exe.

2 Click Next.

3 Select from the following options:

Update a Full Installation – Select this option to update a full installation. A full installation includes all VISUAL executables that have changed since the last full install DVD. The last full install DVD for Infor ERP VISUAL Enterprise 6.5.4 is the Service Pack 3 DVD.

Update a Client Installation – Select this option to update client workstations. If you select this option only, the installer will only update those files used in a client installation. Client installation files include the user documentation, Pricebook files, COM files, and ActiveX controls. It will not install the full set of executables.

4 Click Next. The installer displays the path to your VISUAL Enterprise directory. If you would like to install the programs in a different location for review or testing, click the Change… button to specify a new location for the installation.

5 Click Next.

6 Click Install to begin the installation.

You should repeat the process for a full installation on all machines where you have installed all of the VISUAL executables. You should repeat the process for a client installation on all machines that access VISUAL but do not have the full set of executables installed.

Running Patch ScriptsSome maintenance releases include patch scripts. To ensure that your Infor ERP VISUAL Enterprise database is up-to-date, run the patch scripts on your database in sequential order.

To check your current patch script level, from the VISUAL main menu select Help, About. The system displays the current patch level on the Database and Patch Level line.

To run patch scripts:

1 Navigate to the directory where you store your VISUAL executables and launch the Conversion Utility, VMCVTUTL.exe.

2 Verify that the information displayed for the database is correct. If any of the information is incorrect, make the appropriate changes.

3 Click the Run Script button.

4 Navigate to the patch script you would like to run. Patch scripts are specific to the type of database you use for VISUAL. Patch scripts for Oracle begin with OR654P, for example OR654P01. Patch scripts for SQLServer begin with SS654P, for example SS654P01. Patch scripts for SQLBase begin

with VM654P, for example VM654P01. Patch scripts must be run in order; for example, if you use an Oracle database you must run OR654P01 before you run OR654P02.

You do not need to run patch scripts that have already been applied to the database. For example, if your current patch script level is SS654P03, then SS654P04 should be the first patch script you run.

5 Click Open. The patch script runs.

6 Repeat the process for as necessary to install other patch scripts for your database type.

Program updates

The table lists the new enhancements first, followed by updates sorted by application name, followed by documentation changes. The Version number is the version of the application included in the release. If an asterisk is displayed after the application name, then the application is included in the Client install. All of the programs are installed in a full install.

Note: Certain VISUAL applications share the same program version with a previous release of VISUAL. For example, the version of Equipment Maintenance used in VISUAL Enterprise 6.5.4 is the same version used in VISUAL Enterprise 6.5.3. When a program is shared among multiple releases of VISUAL, the number of the earliest VISUAL release where the program is used is added to the version number. For example, Equipment Maintenance is listed as 6.5.3.009; this version is used in both VISUAL Enterprise 6.5.3 and VISUAL Enterprise 6.5.4.
