Vasco da Gama movement is the WONCA Europe working group for young and future GP
The movement is the continuation of the work that was started during the first preconference meeting for junior doctors during the WONCA Europe conference in Amsterdam in 2004
OUR GOALS
Providing a forum, support and information for trainees and young GPs through access to WONCA Europe regional conferences and pre-conferences
Establishing a communication network between European trainees and young GPs and identifying their concerns, doubts and needs and helping to address them
Improving the quality of training programmes for general practice.

Education and Training:Working on a joint project with EGPRN on Evaluation of the Educational Agenda
ResearchEstablished their internal communication networkbetween young researchers and exchanged information about the current researchprojects which they are undertaking. They founded the »Young Researcher Award«
Exchange Published questionnaires on our website trying to revive the Hippocrates program.
ImageDeveloping the website, which had more than 2500 page views in the last six months, VdGM forum and newsletter.
BEYOND EUROPE / Recruitment Will present a workshop on recruitment solutions,also highlighting a rural practice (contacts with EURIPA on this subject of joint interestare being established)
VdGM Europe Council The ruling body of the Vasco da Gama Movement, with from every WONCA Europe member country one national delegate.This means that the VdGM Europe Council will consist of a maximum of 36 members. This council will meet annually during the WONCA Europe Conference.
El Executive Group The VdGM Europe council will elect the members of the executive Group. Their maximum stay will be for three years. National delegates of the VdGM Europe Council can apply for this position. Elections has been held during the Europe Council Meeting in Paris 2007. Half of the VdGM core group will resign and the other half will continue for another year to pass on relevant issues and to provide continuity.

Programa Hippokrates
Programa de intercambio de residentes de MFyC y Jóvenes Médicos de Familia.
Comenzó en el año 2000, a raíz del 6º Congreso Wonca en Viena.
Inicialmente, hubo un pilotaje en el participaron 5 países: España, Holanda, Rep Checa, Dinamarca y Reino Unido.
Actualmente apoyado y reconocido por semFYC, WONCA y EURACT.

Duración:
En especialidades de 4 años o más de duración, no podrán exceder los 12 meses en total, y
No más de 4 meses consecutivos. Presentar solicitud con mínimo 3 meses de antelación.
Rotaciones externas (ALE)Requisitos:
Rotación acordada entre tutor y residente. El tutor es quien la propone a la Comisión de Docencia.
Establecer unos objetivos docentes con anterioridad.Aceptación de la rotación por parte de la Comisión de
Docencia de destino.Que la Gerencia de AP de origen asuma la responsabilidad de
continuar pagando el salario del residente en su totalidad.La rotación se realizará preferentemente en un centro
acreditado, nacional o extranjero.
Rotaciones externas (ALE)Evaluación de la rotación
El centro de acogida emitirá un informe de evaluación del residente.
Dicha evaluación se inscribirá en el libro del residente y será tenida en cuenta para la evaluación final.

700 euros To be eligible you need to:
1. Be a family doctor trainee or familiy doctor within 5 years of specialisation at the time of the exchange.2. Have completed a Hippokrates exchange and have been awarded a Certificate of Completion in 2010 or 2011.3. Have not been awarded funding from any other source to take part in the exchange.4. Be able to attend WONCA Europe Conference in Vienna from 4th-7th July 2012.5. Applications must included:
•The completed Hippokrates Exchange Template (Learning Objectives, Educational Programme, Learning Outcomes and Final Report - all signed by the visitor and host).•Cover letter outlining why you should be considered for the prize (400 words maximum).•Your curriculum vitae (2 pages maximum).•A letter of support from your Hippokrates exchange host.

The VdGM preconference is a meeting for GP trainees or newly qualified GP's (up till 5 year after graduation).
VdGM asks National Colleges of European Countries to send 1–2 delegates to the Preconference.
Every year a «new» delegate has the opportunity to get an interesting introduction to the idea of being a GP in the European context and exchange ideas, experiences and visions. Discussions with fellow trainees or young GPs from all over the Europe widen perspectives and horizons, in keeping with the mission statement of VdGM: Our mission is to extend our knowledge of GP/FM in a European perspective and to exchange ideas and experiences with the purpose to develop and improve GP/FM in Europe and at home.
Preconference participants will also have the chance to get acquainted with the activities of VdGM and to attend the yearly Wonca Europe Conference. The aim is to stimulate young GPs' enthusiasm in maintaining the goals of a high quality family medicine in their countries as well as throughout Europe, working along the following lines «think globally, act locally».
The aim of preconference is:
• To provide a forum for young and future General Practitioners/Family Physicians to exchange ideas and professional experiences in an European context,• To discuss the development of family medicine to meet the needs of patients in a increasingly complex field within a rapidly changing society with rising demands from individuals and ever growing medical possibilities,• To discuss and promote working conditions corresponding to the needs of the upcoming generation of General Practitioners/Family Physicians,• To improve practice, quality, teaching and research of General Practice/Family Medicine in all European countries.
What do we display at the WONCA pre-conference?
The pre-conference attendants are invited from each countries scientific society´s (máximum 2 gp-trainees or young GP for country) in order to give every country the chance to participate, but…
Attendants are divided into 5 groups, each one with a different arguing theme (education, exchange, research…) and, together with an Euract professor member, this issues are raised for discussion.
Subsequently everything debated is reported intothe Wonca congress.
Which activities do we undertake during the congress?
There is a general explicative session about VdGM
There is another presentation about the work displayed at the pre-conference
Activities developed by each group are explained and everybody is invited to take part of them
Groupal Meetings are made(including recently invited people) and a year-plann is developed with all the activities suggested.
