Today, we are going to explore the differences between propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG). By the time you reach the end of this article, you should have a much better idea about which ratio you will prefer for your vape. This will help you to choose the best e-juice for your personal preferences, and consequently, improve your vape experience. What Are PG and VG and How Are They Relevant to Vaping? Before we move on to preferences, we first need to explain what they are and what they do. E-liquid contains four key ingredients: PG, VG (although some don’t have VG), flavouring, and nicotine (this too, is not always present).

They each play a different role within the liquid: • Nicotine: gives you the buzz. People often vape as a

replacement for smoking.• Flavouring: self-evident, it adds flavour to your vape. To explain the role of PG and VG, we have to look at each of them in greater depth. Propylene glycol (PG)PG plays a wide role in vaping, so let’s break it down a bit. First, you need to realise that this is a less dense ingredient than the VG. This means that it vapes faster because it evaporates quickly. It has a much ‘harsher’ feel on the throat, so it mimics smoking quite well, and much better than VG does.

It is also the flavour carrier; the flavouring mixes well with the PG. when you vape, with pure PG or with a high ratio of PG to VG, you don’t produce a big plume of vape, so it’s much less conspicuous than a high VG liquid…but some would argue less fun, too. One reason why high PG ratio is preferred to a high VG, is that the latter can block the vape equipment much faster than the former – in other words, PG is less gunky. Vegetable Glycerine (VG)High VG liquids tend to be less popular, but for me they make the best E liquid. That’s because I love to make huge plumes of vape. I don’t just make vape rings; I make vape rings that I blow through other vape rings. Yes, I’m a vape magician…OK, I’m not, but I’m not too bad at doing fun things with the plumes, and VG gives the densest clouds, so makes it easier to do tricks.

In terms of the flavour, you need to watch out that you don’t add too much VG to your liquids or that you buy a lower VG liquid. This is because it interferes with flavour. It’s very sweet itself. The throat hit is much softer with VG, so non-smokers (who have never smoked) tend to prefer it. One of the main issues with high VG is its viscosity. That means that it clogs your vape equipment quite quickly. I'm forever cleaning mine out! I hope that you found this article useful.
