A reminder that the procedure for purchasing a seat at the catered dinner is different
now. In the hallway by the office, get an envelope, write your name and phone number on the

inside the envelope and seal it. Drop the envelope in box #3 on the wall. Then write your
name on the sign-up list on the wall. You need to have paid for the dinner before you can sign
the sign-up sheet. The directions will also be on the wall in the hallway.
Phone Number Alert!
From a chance conversation, I recently learned that a family in
Vandalia is getting a minimum of 25 calls per week left on their
answering machine from both Vandalia Senior Center members and
Van Tran riders.
Make sure you are calling 898-1232.
Make sure the message on the answering machine says,
“Welcome to the Vandalia Senior Center”.

They created Golden Qi that is practiced while sitting in a chair. Vevia and
Bruce Enix will be teaching the Golden Qi class at our center. Vevia and Bruce completed 20
hours of classroom instruction and practice teaching sessions last year on December 9. In these
sessions, they learned the Golden Qi short form, the Butterfly Fan Form, and the Qigong
Exercises for Fun and Health.
This FREE class can be taken by anyone. This is also a class that can also be attended by
those with balance issues and those using a cane or walker. This FREE class will be held every

Books N Stuff Group on Two Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m.
On April 4th, the group will review a fabulous book. The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. It's a story that takes place in 19th century Charleston.
It blends fact and fiction and tells the story of two sisters who devote their lives to
the abolition of slavery and to the women's rights movement in the 1800's. It
was such a well written book that is was so hard to stop reading. Then on April 18th, the group
will have "stuff." They discuss whatever they want. There is always a lot to learn.
Art Appreciation on Two Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m.
Anyone can join the art appreciation group. This group is led by Charlene
Gratz. On April 11, the art appreciation group will meet at the Vandalia Senior
Center at 1:30 p.m. They will carpool to the Troy-Hayner Center to view the
watercolor show. The group will also discuss field trips planned for May. At the
April 24 meeting, the group will be talking about landscapes. Bring a picture of a
landscape that you love and share why you love it.
Electronic Help From the Vandalia Library
I just learned that both Rob and John have been transferred to other
positions at different locations in the library system. Also the library has changed
its policy regarding how much technology support they are able to give patrons.
For liability reasons, they can now only offer technology support with personal
electronic devices if it relates to a library service (such as ebooks).
Entrees for the Potluck Dinners
At the March 17 potluck, Mike Wells will be singing songs from the 50s, 60s,
and 70s. The April 7 potluck will be Italian night. Entrees will be penne with meat
sauce and spaghetti with marinara sauce (no meat) and breadsticks. On April 21,
the entrée will be ham. The Reader’s Theatre will also perform.
Calling All Knitters
The Super Sewers need your help making knitted wash cloths for the bazaar. The dish
towels have been taken. Come into the center to pick up the directions and the supplies.
Lifeline Screening Will Be Here Tuesday, May 30, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
They will be doing ultrasound screenings to identify risk factors for Cardiovascular
disease including: Carotid Artery, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, Peripheral Arterial Disease, a
Heart Rhythm Screening, and Osteoporosis. Register by calling 800-772-8260 or go online
