Scandinavia

Scandinavia is a region in northern Europe that includes Denmark and two of the Scandinavian Peninsula's countries, Norway and Sweden.

While the other Nordic countries of Finland and Iceland are sometimes grouped with the region, they are not technically affiliated.

History of Scandinavia During a period of Christianization and

state formation in the 10th-13th centuries, three consolidated kingdoms emerged in Scandinavia that are Denmark, Norway and Sweden

Denmark, forged from the Lands of Denmark including Jutland, Zealand and Scandia on the Scandinavian Peninsula. The island Gotland in modern-day Sweden was initially also part of the Danish realm.

Norway including Bohuslän, Härjedalen, Jämtland and Idre & Särna on the Scandinavian Peninsula, and its island colonies Iceland, Greenland, Faroe Islands, Shetland, Orkney, Isle of Man and the Hebrides.

Denmark The southern-most Scandinavian country,

Denmark consists of the Jutland peninsula and over 400 islands, some of which are linked to the mainland by bridge

Almost all of Denmark is low and flat, but there are many low hills as well.

The Faroe Islands and Greenland both belong to the Kingdom of Denmark.

The official language of Denmark is Danish.

Norway

Also called "The Land of Vikings, and the Midnight Sun," Norway is the northernmost country in Europe.

Official language: Norwegian

Sweden

Sweden offers numerous lakes and is the largest of the Scandinavian countries - both in land size and population

Volvo and Saab both originated here and are a big part of the Swedish industry.

The official language of Sweden is Swedish.

Iceland

With a surprisingly mild climate, Iceland is Europe's westernmost country, the second largest island in the North-Atlantic ocean.

Iceland has a strong economy, low unemployment and low inflation, and its per capita income is among the highest in the world

The official language of Iceland is Icelandic.

Finland

Finland is another country where the weather is better than many tourists expect

Finland also has one of the lowest immigration rates in the world.

The official language of Sweden is Finnish.
