o Thunder & lighting require a 30-minute stoppage before resuming play. (Essentially a rain-out)
o We will play in rain unless it’s a total downpour, but a light rain will not stop play.
o I’ll do my best to get to the fields on questionable days to check fields, but Fields and Facilities will also be checking.
o If there is a rain-out, I’ll send out an e-mail to the entire league. Please forward it to your teams (so mail-in registrations receive the notification).
• Try putting stronger players on defense or in goal (in age groups with goalies).• Remove a player from the field of play.• Mix up the teams and use pinnies... This league is not about ego.• Have a minimum touch needed before a shot can be taken. That is, the ball needs
to be touched by that many people before it can be shot. Start with a number, if that isn’t enough, add more touches.
• Try a tiered point system for an individual player. The parent can keep score. And the player tries to beat their previous game’s score. (Thank you Coach Jerrom for this amazing idea!) The point system would be something along the lines of:• Goal = 1 point• Assist = 2 points• Pass = 3 points• Goal blocked = 5 points
• A last resort would be to move a player up in an age group. It can be done (without new uniform), but the player will most likely become a better player in the long run by focusing on passing, defense, or another weaker aspect of their game in a league they can dominate in scoring. If you have a parent who thinks otherwise, please tell them this is what Steve said and to contact me.
o Clearances: You each need to provide me with your clearances as required by law in order to be around & working with the kids.
o We now have a Clearances Coordinator, Colleen Baar who will contact the coaches directly who are still needed. If she does not contact you, you are good to go.
o You can click here for more information: http://www.valleysoccerclub.org/page/show/1966940-clearances
o Equipment: Shin Guards MUST be worn (insurance reasons), cleats are highly recommended.
o Food Allergies: For teams that bring snacks, please ask your parents if there are any food allergies which your team should be aware.
o Pets: Absolutely no pets are allowed at Phillips Field. Please make sure your parents know. Children in the league are allergic.
o No Smoking is allowed at Phillips Field (includes vaping)
Needs to add up to at least 1 hour per playerOpportunities include:o Snack Stand (see next slide)o Traffic Cones - Setting up/Taking down. There will be a sign-up.o Canopies – on Saturdays only (all 6 = 30 min or 5 min a canopy)
Please ask families members to: (Coaches have done so much already!)o Set up the canopies if you have the first game.o Close up and return canopies to equipment shed after last game.o Relocate the canopy to the field in use (if in between games). This will also
count towards the Volunteer Deposit.o Emptying garbage/cleaning up parking lot
(must make myself or Brandi aware first)o Other various tasks that help out or improve the league
(How to get Team Parent to count towards getting deposit back, being a Parking guide, Recruiting multiple (4 or more) team sponsors, forming teams, etc.)
Do – EncourageDO NOT – Belittle; players are still learningDo – Keep practices fun; have lots of scrimmagesDO NOT – Drill endlesslyDo – Be willing to teach & support EACH playerDO NOT – Threaten or imply to not play any player for ANY reason. If you think you have some special cause, please talk to me.Do – Have fun, yes you
o Snack stand:o Games may be stopped if no volunteer to work the snack stand.o Brandi will set up a sign-up & it will be first come/first serve.o If no one is at the snack stand, the refs can’t get paid…o If no one is at the snack stand, volunteers can’t get back their deposit.
o Parking: (Please remind your parents)o Set the example for your team.o Park vehicles close to other vehicles and in as far as possible.o Parking on the grass on the Geryville end of the parking lot is ok.
(We should be able to get 4 rows of cars at that end)o Pulling up hill by the snack stand (and towards Geryville side) is helpful.o Please carpool.o Please don’t come too early to games.o Don’t bring your fancy car.
No cars may park on the streetThe neighbors could call the police if they wanted to. Plus, there is a lot of poison ivy along the street.
o U5 & U7 play Fields 1 – 4 (Field 1 is in the front, Field 4 in the back)
o U9 play Field 6 (front field)
o U12 and U16 play Field 5 (back field)
o
Parking only in gravel lot by red barn
Either two U5/U7 games
OR one U9/U12/U16
game at a time
*Please ask your families to avoid the area/playing field closest to the road/house with the pool (to the right off the bridge and marked with a asterisk) to help minimize any tensions with the home owner.*

We are seeking to form a fundraising subcommittee.
Please contact Brandi at [email protected],Andrew at [email protected], &/or Kate [email protected] if you or one of your parents are interested in helping raise funds for Finland.
Ideas suggested include:• Tosco’s night (or other
restaurant)• Rita’s night• Footgolf (soccer golf)• LuLaRoe• Comedy Night• Designer purse bingo• Donation bucket at Phillips Field
• With all the assistance needed, it was brought up to raise the volunteer deposit fee to a much larger number (i.e. $50/player) to incentivize the help for things like lining the field, coaching, snack stand, recruiting sponsors, etc. I will think it over.
• The $20 refund coaches receive. It was brought up that it could be pooled from all coaches wishing to do so to get something for the league that would benefit the kids. In the past, we did get the canopies for the league this way. Ideas for this year if you decide to donate it back include:• Additional canopies• Water jugs for coaches to bring for the players (involves cleaning to
prevent mold).• Raising the fundraiser buy-out was brought up for future seasons, but needs
further thought on how to best go about it.• If you know people who could donate (money, equipment, time, supplies, etc.),
know a skill (or people who do), or have ideas for the Finland Park project, please contact Andrew ([email protected]). This project will require a lot of work and money and any little bit helps.
• A tiered sponsorship structure: I had initiated an tiered sponsorship approach but need assistance of someone to take my idea to the next level once we are at Finland exclusively. If you would like to see the DRAFT idea, e-mail Steve.
