Pastor Stephen Kaneshiro I want to encourage all of us to allow God to plant the seeds of missionary service in our lives and in the lives of all of the people of VIF. I believe that the way to begin doing this is to start with the read- ing of God’s Word on a daily basis and praying that He would speak mightily to you through His Word. Then as you read the news on a daily basis, allow God to lead you to develop a love and concern for the people of the world. Pray daily and specifically for the people around the world that God burdens you with. Also, pray daily for the missionaries across the world as they tirelessly labor to spread the Good News. This would mean that you are starting to get active in world missions as you sensitize yourself to spiritual conditions across the world, as you educate your- self about the worldly conditions of the world, and as you pray for the missionaries that are laboring in those fields. By praying intelligently and sincerely for the mission fields and the missionaries across the world, you are actively participat- ing in missionary work. Prayer is a powerful instrument that God uses in great and mighty ways and you will always hear mis- sionaries pleading with others to be in prayer for their work. Lastly, be sensitive to God’s call on your life. As He gently calls on you to step out of your comfort Time marches on so fast. School is out for some and almost out for all. Summer is upon us with its many activities and functions. As we think about all the choices that surrounds and entices us, I want to encourage you to keep your eyes on Jesus and to seek to make this a Summer that would bring Him much glory and honor. As your pastor, one of my desires is to see us sending people out on summer missions adventures. I know that I have been privileged with going on mission trips and each one of them blessed me greatly. I would like to see many people from Valley Isle Fellowship going off on mission trips throughout the year, and especially during each Summer. We have already seen the impact of the Bagoyoʻs and Two Third World Network and several from our church, and other churches here on Maui, have gone out. You have seen the joy, fulfillment, and excitement that they have returned with. Imagine if multiple people went out from VIF every year on mission to other parts of Maui County, different islands throughout Hawaii, to the Mainland, and through out the world? Imagine what the work for the glory of Jesus might be like and imagine the excitement and joy that could be generated in VIF. Could we possibly see men and women committing themselves to full time service to our Lord after they exposed themselves to a short-term mission? Could we see scores and maybe hundreds of people giving their lives to Jesus Christ? Could we have the joy of having a part in many of these growing and matur- ing in Christ to the point where they are turning into evangelist and disciple makers? (continued on next page)

Will You Go?Pastor Stephen Kaneshiro

I want to encourage all of us to allow God to plant the seeds of missionary service in our lives and in the lives of all of the people of VIF. I believe that the way to begin doing this is to start with the read-ing of God’s Word on a daily basis and praying that He would speak mightily to you through His Word. Then as you read the news on a daily basis, allow God to lead you to develop a love and concern for the people of the world. Pray daily and specifically for the people around the world that God burdens you with. Also, pray daily for the missionaries across the world as they tirelessly labor to spread the Good News.

This would mean that you are starting to get active in world missions as you sensitize yourself to spiritual conditions across the world, as you educate your-self about the worldly conditions of the world, and as you pray for the missionaries that are laboring in those fields. By praying intelligently and sincerely for the mission fields and the missionaries across the world, you are actively participat-ing in missionary work. Prayer is a powerful instrument that God uses in great and mighty ways and you will always hear mis-sionaries pleading with others to be in prayer for their work.

Lastly, be sensitive to God’s call on your life. As He gently calls on you to step out of your comfort

Will You Go?Pastor Stephen Kaneshiro

zones, He may be calling you to go and serve on short term, long term, and maybe to even give the rest of your life in missionary service to Him. Wherever He leads, will you go? Whenever He leads, will you go? However, He leads, will you go? If He leads, will you go? Some of you may feel that you are too young. Some of you may feel like you are too old. Some of you may feel like you are too poor. Some of you may feel like you have no time. Will you let God be the God of all of your circumstances and go, if He leads you?

The hymn writer, B. McKinney, penned the following words: “Take up thy cross and follow Me, “ I heard my Master say; “I gave My life to ransom thee, Surrender your all today.” Wherever He leads I’ll go,Wherever He leads I’ll go, I’ll follow my Christ who loves me so, Wherever He leads I’ll go. My heart, my life, my all I bring To Christ who loves me so; He is my Master, Lord, and King, Wherever He leads I’ll go, Wherever He leads I’ll go, I’ll follow my Christ who loves me so, Wherever He leads I’ll go. Wherever He leads I’ll go.” ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

* Northern Thai/Khon Muang of Thailand-(cone MOO-ung) - Imagine the exhaustion of swimming upstream against a powerful current. Now, think of this struggle in terms of culture. What if you had been taught since child-hood that to admit that you’re wrong would bring great shame on you and your family? You would avoid any such an admission upon pain of death! And what if you’d been taught that to lie or steal or be naughty would be OK as long as you didn’t get caught? Then, you hear about Jesus Christ and how you must turn from your sins and believe that he can save you in order to experience freedom in life and death. This means that you must do the very thing you’ve avoided all your life. You must admit your mistakes, both intentional and unintentional. You must admit your sinful ways. This is like swimming against a powerful current, privately and socially. Pray for Nancy* and Bill,* new Northern Thai believers, as they continue to internalize biblical values and mindsets. Ask God to give them wisdom as they parent their children with biblical heart attitudes. Pray for the Thai church as they disciple and equip believers in a new way of living. “But if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7 NASB). * Muslims of Tamil Nadu, India-(TAH-mil NAH-doo) - Sarah* grew up in a Muslim family but eloped with a Hindu. After that, her family disowned her. Two decades later, Sarah started hearing about Jesus from her employ-er. After two years of hearing stories and asking questions, she believed the truth of the gospel and was baptized! Just recently, Sarah’s sister, Leah,* called her out of the blue and wanted to reunite. Leah had actually come to faith seven years ago. Because of their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, these two sisters were unified. Jesus brought them together. Praise him! (*names changed)

* Porto Alegre, Brazil-(POR-toh Ah-LEG-ray) - Please pray for the spread of the gospel among the Gaucho people of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Ask God to break down the spiritual strongholds that hold Gauchos captive. Pray that Gaucho Christians will feel a deep need to break cultural barriers that keep them in isolation and that they will flourish as they engage in relationships within the church. Pray that missionaries will find ways to show radical love and access the lost with the gospel.
