President’s Report Hi to everybody,

This month I am sad to report that Club Member, Barry Nugent (AUS 19493) has passed away after a battle with cancer. He was a good friend and will be missed. Barry has been a member of our Club since the late 90’s and was involved in several of our club competitions over the years and also took part in the VMAA trophy event for several years, flying in the Thermal Glider Event. Barry and I also went to Camperdown flying RC gliders every year sometimes twice a year and we also did several motorbike trips together.

August has been a bit better month for flying – still freezing, windy and wet though I was able to fly early in the month on our usual Club BBQ day when the weather ended up opposite to what was forecast. Most members went home before Lunch time so I continued flying by myself till around 4.30 pm.

Our rescheduled BBQ & combat classic day was the best flying day we have had for ages and several of us made the most of it, the combat was awesome with a spectacular mid air and tied points for 1st a fly off round ensued with Shaun taking the honours. Well done Shaun !

See you all at the meeting or flying field. Cheers Mick

INDOOR REPORT 5th August 2017 Apologies were received from Gary, Mick and Mal. Ash set up the coffee shop, tool shed and newsagency! He also flew the Night Vapor Fred had his new Spektrum DX9 working well with the new Skybug and Spacewalker. Bob had some drone time as well as releasing the pigeon for some exercise. He also had the flying egg with a limp wing! Jason had little to fly but lots of kids toys to play with! After helping the new Spektrum owners he did have some mini drone and Spacewalker time. He also had some 4XW buggies to play with Phoebe. Jordan has grown into a little person and will soon be wiggling sticks herself! Geoff Bruerton made a welcome appearance with a Depron Bug and an enlarged version as well as a Sopwith Camel and an extended wing Micro Stick Graeme flew the Sky Bug after help from Jason and Fred getting the new Spektrum on line. Son James called in and had some air time with the mini Vapor. New Serene E looks to be a slow flyer and is awaiting new gear. Greg Billing arrived with some of his FPV gear that he had at the meeting and scooted around with a mini drone behind goggles.

Club Flyday - Sunday 6/08/17 at Lake Narracan

The Weekend forecast on Wednesday was for a Cold and very windy weekend and it was decided at

the meeting to have the Sausage Sizzle and Combat Classic on Sunday 20th

August because the weekend was

going to be blown out. On Saturday afternoon the Willy Wind forecast changed to a day of light wind and

sunny breaks. As it turned out it was Calm at Lake Narracan until about 10.30am when a North Westerly wind

came in at around 25km, gusting to 35km. There wasn’t a big attendance and by then a few members had flown

and a couple didn’t bother. Most went home by 10.30 but by 10.45am we had a light Southerly and the wind

then moved to the West and around Midday started to gust up and by 1245 it was gusting to 30km and the 3

flyers still there departed.

Chris Davenport didn’t fly but had a car full. A few of them needed to be test flown but that didn’t happen.

Ian Place flew his . . . . and the engine died half way through the first flight. On the second flight Ian did a

down wind takeoff (the wind direction had changed) and the engine died when the model was 20 metres up and

the model clipped a tree and spun to the ground. Only damage was ta broken prop.

Damon Davenport flew his foamy Sbach with no problem and he had a new Durafly EFXtra to be testflown

but that didn’t happen because of the wind.

Wayne Lewis flew his S1500 Stick with OS46FX engine and had problems but a new Glowplug fixed it. The

ASP .15 powered GunnFighter and OS.15max powered Obelix both flew well in the conditions.

Barry Medd arrived with a new foamy model but we couldn’t get the radio to bind so it didn’t get to fly.

Ian Partleton didn’t get a model out as the wind arrived when he did.

Julian Zhu arrived and when the wind eased he flew his Bixler 2 with no problem.

Mick Gunn arrived when it had calmed down again and flew his China Clipper Pylon Racer on which the

HXT900 throttle servo died on the second flight. Mick also had a Funjet to test fly and it rolled on launch and

bounced on its nose with no damage. When we went to launch it again the motor wouldn’t work. We found that

the motor and ESC had disconnected and it needed to be sorted at home on the bench.

INDOOR REPORT 19th August 2017 Apologies from Mick and Mal. Mal called in for a break from the mallet swingers and receiving trophies and Mick was on the other side of some blown down gum trees. Ash had both night Vapors going and has achieved something the experts have not: he landed both Vapors on the projector (at different times in the same day)!! Bob had some fun with his buggy and his pigeon (it just won’t wear out). He also flew some small drones. We will get him using his Spektrum 8! Fred had both Sky Bugs and Spacewalker. He spent some time with Gary trimming his new canard and had it really grooving Gary flew his Spirit of St Louis, Spacewalker, Sopwith and two Canards and still had boxes of models. I don’t know how he manages his batteries! Graeme flew the Sky Bug and eventually got the Serene airborne although briefly before the motor fell off!! Jason and Fred gave some Spektrum tuition for his new radio. Has new gear in the Early Bird but did not fly it. Geoff had lots of flying with his Micro Stick, Depron Bug and enlarged Depron bug (BBB). He also had a Sopwith and a neat own design.

Jason and the family arrived with planes, drones, buggies (Traxxas) and an assortment of toys!! It is a full day with kid’s demands on Leah and other pilot’s demands on Jason. He does get some flying in though! Next flyday Saturday September 2nd

2017-2018 Combat Classic – Round 1

The Combat Classic was postponed from the club flyday due to the weather forecast

and was run on Sunday 20th

August and what a great day it turned out to be. Little to no wind

and plenty of sun to warm the place up after a cold night and to dry the grass off. There was

plenty of general flying and test flying in the morning and then we had the Sausage Sizzle lunch

which seemed to go down well and then we got the Action going. 5 pilots all flying

GunnFighter type models. There was only 1 midair collision and that was in the last of the 4

rounds and we certainly went through some streamers. There were 11 streamer cuts in the 4

rounds and 1 in the flyoff. With the normal scoring of the 3 best runs we had a tie for both first

and second places so we added in the 4th round which gave Wayne Lewis 3

rd place and Mick

Gunn and Shaun Lowe a tie for 1st & 2

nd so we decided that they should have a fly off and

Shaun managed to get a cut on Mick’s streamer so Shaun won and Mick came in second.

There were 20 members at the Lake and most that didn’t fly in the event stayed to watch the

action so there were plenty of ohoo’s and arrrrr’s and the mid air collision between Wayne &

Dave Lewis was spectacular. Dave’s OS.15 motor made it from the centre of the strip where the

wreckage landed to behind the pilot line.

Thanks to Eric and Glen for doing the timekeeping and stuff and to Neville & Wayne Lowe for

doing the snags.

Next Combat Classic event is Sunday 5th

November 17. As only the 3 best events rounds are

counted this means that anyone who wasn’t here for round 1 can still win the event if he does

the next 3 events so come on you slacko’s get building and have a go.

New Club Locks and Keys – I have received the 7 new locks and 60 keys and the locks have

all been fitted and the keys are now available from Wayne so bring your old key for a new

exchange key or if you haven’t got a key it will cost you $20.00 for a key which is refundable if

you leave the club and hand back the key.

Note : We will always have the “Council Lock” on the first Gate and the new key will fit the

current “Gate Box” (as always), the second gate and both containers at Lake Narracan as well

as the Warragul Gate and the Bluerock Gate and container. Most members will never use their

key and I doubt that more than 15 different members have ever opened the gates.

It also means that if someone was to get into the Gate Box they would only have access to the

gate key and not to the containers.

Please ensure that the correct locks go on the correct gate when locking up. The long Shank

silver lock goes on the LVMAC gate and the crappy silver lock with the hacksaw cut is the

Caravan Park gate.

Last to leave always check that the containers and toilet are locked.
