President’s Report Hi to everybody,

I managed to fit the 2 x indoor meets and the RFD day in this month, it was good to see the RFD day well attended despite the persistent on again off again showers. We also got a nasty reminder of what our li-Po batteries and chargers can do when it all goes wrong with Lindsay unluckily losing a substantial amount of gear to a Li-Po battery failure, hope you can replace your lost gear soon Lindsay. It could have been a lot worse with lots more models a car and boat that could have been lost as well so take care charging batteries and do not leave them unattended. The Auction was a bit like trying to pull a tooth without an anaesthetic though the club still did well making $500 for the night so thanks to those that let more than moths out of their wallets.

Cheers Mick

Club Christmas Day

The club Christmas day will be on Sunday 3rd

December at 1.00pm at the Yallourn North Hall. There is an event on there in the morning and that is why there is a 1.00pm sit down. Cost will be $15.00 for the 3 course lunch and Chris would like numbers and money by the November Flyday where possible.

***************** INDOOR REPORT 7th October 2017

Apologies from Ash who was a little off colour – Graeme missed his afternoon coffee!!

Mal had a new bright Ferrari red quad with brushless motors MJX Bug – very sleek but yet to fly. Did fly his usual MJX’s

Jason flew the Super Cub and his OD Depron model Stubby

Gary had the Spacewalker, Sopwith and his Canards. He also had a friend Charley Nicholson who had an extraordinary X-wing drone that hovered and flew like a Star Wars fighter! Bob set some jumps up around the hall for his Buggy and had a heap of fun he also flew a JRC Drone

Geoff flew his OD Depron models and the extended wing Micro Stick – he crams a lot of flying into a session!!

Graeme had the Serene E, Micro Stick and the Sky Bug. He had his first flight with the Ezee Flyer and it just handled perfectly – will probably see more of them

Fred was back from globetrotting to pick up his supply of Depron from Geoff. Flew his Bug, Spacewalker and had lots of fun with his canards that Gary had trimmed while away.

Mick was accompanied by daughter Ashleigh (former member) and her son Riley and his normal Air Force – Mustang, Corsair, and Trojan as well as the Micro Stick and 3D models giving him lots of flying. Great not having to worry about weather conditions

AUCTION Report – It was a good Auction in respect of all the items that were there but as

usual the wallets were only opened on the really good deals and there were plenty of them. A

each each and DX7 radio went for $80 and a Foamy Corsair and Turnigy radio went for $60 to

name a few. Thanks to Geoff Carr for donating a fair bit of gear that had to go and to the others

that brought along their goodies to sell. Unfortunately a lot of items didn’t sell and had to be

taken home. Thanks also to those who sold items and donated the money to the club. The club

made $501 from the night with over $300 coming from Geoff’s stuff.

Club Flyday - Sunday 8/10/17 at Lake Narracan

The forecast was for a fine and sunny day , 26 degrees and late showers so as I was driving to the field

I had to have my windscreen wipers going, so I knew the forecast was wrong….again ! There were a few

showers until 10.30 and even though the wind wasn’t strong at only 6 to 8 kts, it was quite gusty and the

models were being buffeted around somewhat.

Rex Mitchell flew hisOS46AX powered Jackeroo Trainer, his very nice PC9 and the Super Scorpion EDF Jet.

The Warhawk was also in the car but didn’t fly on this day.

Ivan Walker flew his Electric G46 powered Jackeroo, his S1500 Stick and had a couple of foamy gliders to

fly.

Fred Walder came all the way from Venus Bay and didn’t fly but he did socialize. He has a couple of models

but didn’t fly any of them.

Roy White flew his Challenger with the OS55AX engine and helped in the kitchen.

Chris Davenport didn’t fly but organised Jays new Electric Cub for a WL testfly.

Dave Lewis flew his MXS-R with 55cc DLE engine with no problem. Dave also flew a new OS15LA powered

GunnFighter which did survive the day this time around. He now has 3 to run in the Combat Classic coming up

next month !

Jay Wyntjes flew his new Electric Cub with WL assisting and all went well. A nice Model !

Geoff Bruerton had a car full as usual and the Jets were the main focus today. Unfortunately a couple of the

Jets like the Panther and the …..…went home in pieces but Geoff will repair them. The T45 didn’t fly. The

Lancaster had a very scale like flight but was making an unusual noise so it only flew the once. The Kirrawa 2

Glider, the Durraga Glider and the electric Eagle which looks so realistic when in flight all flew as well as the

Cloud King Old Timer.

Paul Mitchell flew his $10.00 Auction Special Ra Ra type and had a ball throwing it around. Paul also flew his

OS46AX powered Christian Eagle and assisted in the Kitchen.

Lindsay Lamont flew his Magnum 15 powered GunnFighter and with DL assisting flew his new Extra CT

with a 20cc petrol engine. He also flew his OS46AX powered Twister.

Jason Yendall flew his electric Yak 55 and his 360 size Heli and had an impressive 3D flight. It’s been quite a

while since we saw any Heli’s at Lake Narracan.

Glen Neal flew is OS35AX powered Sonic and had to leave early.

Doug Jowett had his Mini Apprentice and a new Corsair, both with SAFE technology not working properly

and flew them with WL assisting.

Eric Spratt flew his Craze E Wing, his small foamy Skywalker Glider and his Sportster and took them all

home intact which was good to see.

Ian Place and Ruth just came out to socialize on this day…..Just to get his free snags !!!

Graeme Blackman flew two small Old timer style electric models which were a Quaker and the Mamselle

Wayne Lewis flew his OS15LA powered Sig Wonder, a Clouds Fly foam glider and an electric Gentle Lady

Glider, the OS46FX powered Stick 1500 and an electric GunnFighter and they all flew well in the conditions.

Wayne also assisted Doug and a new prospective Junior member Billy with some simulator practice and a go

on the Buddy Boxed Gentle Lady Glider.

Mick Gunn flew his China Clipper Pylon racer with no problem and he also flew his Ultra Funjet and

unfortunately it went off the air and crashed damaging the battery.

Alan Law flew his 3 SBach models on site and flew the 30cc powered one

Alan Males was there for a short time and he did have an electric Stik model and the electric twin stick model

that flew very nicely.

Greg Billing didn’t fly and came down to socialise.

Bill Reid made it out for a look but did not fly as he was still Crook after his trip away.

Thanks to Roy and Paul for doing the snags on this occasion.

charger, 2 new Lipo batteries and his charging table as well as damaging another 2 models. When you hear

something go BANG in your shed it pays to check it out ! His boat and fuel tank were not that far away !

INDOOR REPORT 21st October 2017 Apologies from Gary, Mal and Bob (Scroll sawing) Ash added to his Vapor collection buying an Ex Barry Nugent model through Mike (in Spektrum as Vapor No 3!), Ash made Graeme’s day with coffee and Lattice biscuit! Jason had his Stumpy. He also flew the Super Cub and a small quad that Chloe was flying with Jason’s help! She knows what the sticks do. He also obtained a 4 Site (ex Barry Nugent) and spent some time coming to terms with it. Fred had some good flights with his Canards but had problems with the bricks in his Sky Bugs not binding. He also flew the Spacewalker Graeme had the Serene E, Ezee Flyer and Micro Stick flying – son James had several good flights with the Micro Stick and Ash’s Vapor No 3 Mick had 3D models and the 4Site and Trojan (re built nose) and flew a Minium Cessna (Ex Barry’s) We had a welcome visit from Tim Dawson and his wife who came for a look and chat.

11

Australian Model Flying Day 2017 (Sunday 22nd

October)

It was a miserable day weatherwise, but several members did make the effort to attend on this day.

Morning drizzle on and off and a Westerly wind gusting to 17kts made it unpleasant flying but those that were

there made the best of it and there was still a lot of flying done.

Ian Place flew his Maracardis with OS108 engine and all went well.

Dave Lewis flew his MXS-R with 55cc DLE engine and 2 Gunnfighters. One of the gunnies spat the hatch on 2

flights and the hatch was retrieved on both occasions. Dave also helped Lindsay with his ExtraCT and a Gunny.

Lindsay Lamont flew his ExtraCT with 20cc DLE engine and his Magnum 15 powered Gunnfighter which has

a warped wing and wants to go right all the time.

Roy White flew his OS55AX powered Challenger.

Rex Mitchell flew his OS46AX powered PC-9, his OS81Alpha powered Mustang, his OS55AX powered

Sopwith Pup and his Super Scorpion EDF Jet.

Paul Mitchell flew his Funfly Model with OS46AX engine and his Christian Eagle and unfortunately, when

Doug crashed into the pilots fence in front of Paul, Paul was distracted for a couple of seconds and the

Christion Eagle crashed.

Brian Adams flew his electric G46 powered Boomerang and his electric SPAD Gunnfighter

Wayne Lewis flew his Stick 1500 with OS46FX engine and assisted Billy with a test flight and a Buddy Box

flight on his Bixler 1. Wayne also did the Sausage Sizzle in the Kitchen.

Geoff Bruerton foamy Eagle, the Hurricane, the SE4 Biplane, the Pawnee, a Karawarra 2 Glider which he

gave to a new Junior member and the Lancaster stayed in the car on this occasion

Jay Wynjes flew his Dusty electric Crop Duster

Doug Jowett flew his electric Spitfire and did well in the conditions but unfortunately the Spittie crashed into

the Pilots fence when landing. Not much damage but it scared the crap out of a few people and caused Paul to

crash his Christian Eagle. Doug also assisted Wayne in the Kitchen.

Ian Partleton flew his electric Trainer that has been repaired after the nosewheel pulled out the firewall on its

last flight. Ian also flew a Magnum 46 powered Trainer but the muffler back half came off on its first flight and

wasn’t found.

Jason Yendall flew an old Hustler type 46AX powered Trainer of his Dads and it went well until one Aileron

pulled out in flight. The model was landed without damage and when Jason gave the other Aileron a gentle

pull, it came out also. Jason also flew his 360 size 3D Heli and his ExtraFX foamy pylon model .

Graeme Blackman had his small Old Timer models and did have one flight in the damp and gusty conditions.

Mick Gunn flew his China Clipper pylon racer with ASP46 engine and had it screaming around the field.

Billy a prospective Junior member and his dad Mark were there and Wayne testflew Billy’s Bixler 1 and then

did a Buddy Box flight with Billy. He did well for his first time on the sticks.

Thanks to Wayne and Doug for doing the Sausage Sizzle.

Thanks to everyone that supported the event by buying a badge and/or having lunch. I am

sure the Royal Flying Doctor Service is appreciative of our effort in assisting them to raise

money.

12

Above – Dave Lewis has built 2 new GunnFighters for our Combat Events

Above – Rex Mitchell’s Sopwith Pup

13

Above – Paul Mitchell’s Christian Eagle – at least the Lady Pilot survived !

Above - Ivan has had a bad month and unfortunately his G46 electric powered Calmato High Wing Model took

a dip in the Lake recently. By the time we got to it in the boat there was only the tail sticking out of the water.

( I missed that photo opportunity ) Luckily the motor and battery were still attached so that was a bonus. The

wing was floating 30 metres away and full of water but it will all dry out and fly again I’m sure.

14

*****************

Sausage Sizzle Roster…… It was decided at the last meeting that we should have a Sausage

Sizzle Roster for our Club Flydays. Following is the first roster so have a look and if the dates don’t suit

you please contact Wayne ASAP. You will get a reminder in the preceding newsletter and an email

reminder on the Friday before. If you can’t make it it’s up to you to find a replacement to swap with.

5th November'17 Glen Neal Steve Odlum 10th December'17 Jay Damon Davenport 7th January'18 Alan Law Brian Adams 11th February'18 Ivan Walker Eric Spratt

*****************

Left - Ian Partleton kind of wrecked his

new electric trainer on a windy morning

but he had it flying and looking like new

a week later so the pic looks worse than

the damage really was.

I hear on the grapevine that Barry Medd

had to get the boat out to retrieve a

model that was in a tree hanging out over

the Lake. Just remember when using the

boat to wear the PFD’s.

The mower has had a workout this month

and unfortunately the battery has died.

After 3 days on a charger it would not

recover so a new battery has been

purchased for $99.00.

With the rain and sun of late you can just

about watch the grass growing !

Now that the Hovercraft Club has

vacated we will have to start mowing

some of that area off the West end of the

strip because that’s where people do land

occasionally.

15

Club Stickers & stuff……

Eric has taken delivery if some large club stickers that go on the inside of glass windows and they are for

sale at $2.00ea. He also has the new Club Cloth Badges for Sale, at $8.00 each, Metal Badges for $5.00

each and White Stickers for .50 cents each.

Wayne has a new supply of Club Caps @ $15.00 , Metal Badges @ $5.00 & small Stickers @ .50c ea &

VMAA metal badges at $5.00ea ******************

Tinnie for Bluerock It was decided at our last meeting that we should have a tinnie for Bluerock so we can

retrieve models from the Lake so Lindsay and others have been looking and we may have one

this weekend. Lindsay and Wayne will be looking at one for $800 on Saturday Morning. It has

a 2hp motor included and is on a trailer and will fit in the Bluerock Container.

Mick Gunn sent me some pics from the Avalon Airshow …………………

I know its a while since the Avalon air-show but here is a quick report and some pictures for the newsletter. I went to the Avalon air-show with my daughter Ashleigh and my grandson Riley for the Friday night show we had a huge battle with traffic to get there and arrived just after the show started, we then battled through the crowds to find a position to sit and watch the show. It was all worth it though as we all had a great evening. Riley loves the planes, I was a bit concerned with how he would handle the noise from the jets and fireworks I need not have worried though as he couldn’t keep his eyes of the whole show.
